  1. I agree with cimerians in that it almost sounds like a local hardware/software issue, especially if the games downloaded fine on your brother's PC.

The only other thing I could suggest (aside from extensive Google searching, as mentioned above) is uninstalling/reinstalling the Steam client, if you haven't done that already.

  2. There's a shout you can get that is a lightning attack -- wonderfull for blasting Dragons in the skies. And another shout you can get that forces them to land.

But yeah, Elder Dragons are one of the only things that still give my strong fighter guy a fit. :P

Have you tried the "Marked for Death" shout? It can make fighting Elder Dragons much easier, as it makes them more prone to damage.

  3. Oops, sorry, I should have mentioned that. I'm using an original 60GB with a 500GB hard drive. Have you turned off autosave? I did that, and haven't experienced any lag that's out of the ordinary yet.

I have a 250 gig HD in mine with plenty of space to spare. All of the autosave stuff is turned off. I am about 30 hours in with a 6+ megabyte save file. I started experiencing problems once the save file went over 5 megs. No frame rate issues, but the crashes are pretty frequent now.

I got it as an x-mas gift. Not really sure if I ever specified 360 vs PS3. I didn't think much of it at the time when I added it to the list as most hadn't played it long enough on the PS3 for the problems become apparent.

I can't remember where I read it, but I think there was a New Vegas developer that said the problems may never be fully fixed for the PS3. Something about how memory is used (PS3, split between video and everything else while there is more flexibility on the 360 in how memory is used). It seems like a lot of PS3 Skyrim problems were also present in the PS3 version of New Vegas (wouldn't know... I have the 360 version of that). If that is true, was New Vegas ever fixed for the PS3?

I don't think New Vegas was ever fixed for the PS3, now that you mention it... But Bethesda did say that that dev didn't know how the current tech in Skyrim worked: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/114588-Bethesda-New-Vegas-Dev-Is-Wrong-About-Skyrims-PS3-Lag

  4. I don't know if many games offer that, but e.g. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite can be installed on the Duo Stick in order to speed it up.

I think Mana Khemia can as well. I have noticed that games also load much faster on my 3000 than on my old 1000, and are less noisy as well.

  5. There's just something very cool about the 32X, and I recommend it if you can find it cheap enough, and with the proper cables. A lot of games that people don't seem to like (like Motocross and Metal Head) I do enjoy, so as others have said, try emulating them first before you buy. You never know, a much-hated game might be one you really enjoy.

  6. Yes, it is a lot like that, but not nearly so pronounced.

I don't remember ever noticing that on mine, but I have seen it mentioned several times over the years and even have seen some shots of it.

I think it's common, at the very least.

Here's a mockup I grabbed after a few seconds of searching that someone made to demonstrate what they were talking about. Is a bit more pronounced here than it is in reality, and I've seen shots where the transition was more wavy instead of being so consistent.

Is this what you're talking about?

Actually the silver PSP 3K I picked up earlier I ended up returning because of that very problem. I got a new one instead and it doesn't seem to have this problem. I've heard that it has something to do with the screen being too tight (?), but I don't know if that's right.

  7. My girlfriend just got the silver PSP with the Kingdom Hearts bundle. Looks good, feels nice. I'm paranoid and want to get her a screen protector and a case for it as soon as possible. She seems to like it.

Get a Playgear Pocket case and skip the screen protector. The case is the screen protector.

I can second that. I had the 1000 equivalent once, and it was fantastic. Also, I'm glad she enjoys it!

  8. I just picked up my new PSP! It's a 3000 model, lightly used, and it's silver! My thoughts so far:

-Very much lighter. This surprised me the most, it's very, VERY, much lighter than the 1000 series.

-The d-pad is INFINITELY better than the 1000 series (Darkstalkers is playable!)

-The finish is great, much less fingerprint-prone than the 1000 series.

-No screen issues (yet), but the color is more vibrant than the 1000 series.

It all seems great so far, thank you all for the great responses!
