10 minute quiz: name your systems
Rikkarr replied to Cynicaster's topic in Classic Console Discussion
"You got 52 out of 68 answers correct." Not bad! It was easier once I realized that you can do handhelds as well -
The XaviXPort is an interesting system. I assume it failed, although it might be in production? I'm not sure... Here is the Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XaviXPort

So far, the only experience I've had like that was on the web browser. Besides that, the only crash I've ever had with my system was with Oblivion (which just locked everything up), though that only happened once.

Mario Kart 64. It was the first one I ever played, and my friends and I still have fun with it to this day. Strangely, I never owned it back in the day, but I rented it so much I might as well have bought it It's a good time, the battle modes are great too. I've always liked the track designs too. Bowser's Castle and Banshee Boardwalk have great atmosphere

I'll definitely consider this. I enjoyed a lot about the first one. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

I only own a 4-switch wood model, and I've had problems with this game. Strangely, all other Activision titles work pretty well for me... That one takes 4-5 tries to play properly.

I've seen a few of these on eBay, and I've considered picking one up (design seems nice). I think I saw a review for it once (I don't remember where) that gave it an unfavorable score...

Got an N64 console, what else do I need?
Rikkarr replied to OldSchoolRetroGamer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
It is awesome. And super-cheap, too! Seconded! Wipeout 64 is one of those games I played growing up. Many of my friends love that one, even if they didn't play it back in the day! Other futuristic racers I like for the system are F-Zero X and Aerogauge -
I've been following it since it came out in Japan last year. I just preordered it today! But... *sigh* I have WAAAAY too many JRPGs to play, so... ack.

Most of the time, I like music to play when I'm playing video games. Unfortunately, most modern music is the kind of drivel that my roommate blasts at unacceptable levels (though modern consoles usually have the option to play your own music). As for sound effects, I never really noticed. I don't have surround sound, so I don't think it would be right for me to comment anyways.

Strange problem when playing Gran Turismo 5
Rikkarr replied to Rikkarr's topic in Sony Playstation 3
Hey guys, thanks for all the replies! My computer broke down, so that's why my response time has been so bad. I'll check my TV's settings later on tonight when I get home. -
Hi everyone! Recently, my dad got me an HDTV as a dorm-warming gift. It was totally unexpected, but I'm very grateful for it. I've been immensely enjoying all of my PS3 games in HD, and I have to say, its a different experience! Everything looks great, and it just seems so much more immersive. However, one of my games, Gran Turismo 5, has a problem. When I play, there is a black bar on the right side of the screen. I can adjust the screen to stretch over to it via the options menu, but then the bottom part of the screen gets cut off. It is a 32" Toshiba, and I am playing through component. Any help would be great! Thank you!

I don't have an iPad, but this seems like a REALLY cool idea!
-
I don't think I like this much... I mean, sure it's cool, I guess. And Sony really did bring this upon themselves, but the repercussions won't help me at all. Like cimerians said, it'll help Onlive grow and will help the downfall of physical media. I don't have a problem with onlive, but internet is VERY slow and VERY expensive around here, so unless you want to drag your onlive unit to the local library to play, it's just not practical. The second reason, which someone else mentioned, was that Sony might shorten the lifespan of the PS3, and bring out the PS4 sooner. I didn't get my PS3 that long ago, and am only now appreciating it's HD features and options (got an HDTV a few days ago), so I'm certainly not going to be happy if they announce a new system because of this.
-
Sadly, its not practical where I live (not a whole lot of great internet access). I don't mind if it becomes successful, but I just hope systems with physical media remain as an alternative.

Enduro, Beamrider, and Kaboom for me. My friends and I really ended up enjoying those.
-
When I first got my PS3, it was a late 2.XX firmware (can't remember...), and I don't think it had that option. Only polygon smoothing.
-
Fathom is kinda strange, but I think it's a great game overall. I'm also a fan of Demon Attack and Star Voyager.

I'm definietly blinded by nostalgia, as OoT was my second game (first was Diddy Kong Racing), but I think it's a fantastic game. It's not perfect, certainly not a 10/10, but besides Twilight Princess, it's probably my favorite Zelda game. Last year when I got a SNES, I tried a Link to the Past, but I was pretty much bored senseless within 30 minutes (which is odd, because I LOVED NES Zelda and Link's Awakening on GB). I never grew up with a SNES or knew anyone with one, so this probably has something to do with it... Anyways... I'll say what everyone else is saying: OoT is a great game, but not the best game.

Thanks man! You have a merry Christmas too, eh?

I'll admit, I'm curious. But I'm going to wait until both it and the 3DS, and possibly the Jungle, come out until I make my decision. I have to say though, Sony's claims about the PSP2 are pretty ridiculous...
