It's an okay thing for curiosity's sake. But really, the most useful thing they can do is be converted into COSMAC ELFs

For the games I've used mine for (AR) it's worked just fine. At one point, my brother had a Gameshark branded one, and that worked fine too. I don't know what ever happened to it, though...

Believe it or not, I like Mythicon labels. Not just the art, which I think is pretty awesome, but the layout is neat and attractive. It's a shame they don't seem to be very durable.

My favorite modern game is Resistance: Fall of Man. I can sorta imagine it redone for the 2600 in the same vein as Tunnel Runner... Although this could be applied to really just about any shooter Just a thought

Absolutely! I love the Dreamcast, and it's great to see that it's still supported! I'll see if I can't spare a few dollars for this release. Thanks for the info!

My 7 and 8 year old cousins as well as myself enjoy Carnival Games quite a bit. I know the control isn't always the best, but it's usually a good time.

Haha, that show was awesome! I remember that episode, too, when Dean took over the company. Funny stuff!

The phat's had space for a harddrive to be installed inside it. I think FFXI was the only game that made use of it however... Actually, there were quite a few games that supported it, according to Wikipedia. I think FFXI was the only required it, but many installed small amounts of data to it to reduce load times.

I've played it on my friend's iPhone. I was not impressed, but I could see how others might like it. It just seemed kind of tedious to me.

That's really cool! As long as it doesn't interfere with normal functioning, you pretty much have an Atari 2600+!

This is the same game as "Scuba Diver" by Panda, right? Yeah, it's a doozy (I've got Scuba Diver). I never figured out how you're actually supposed to get the treasure or whatever from the shipwreck. I'm pretty sure it's actually impossible. It's a flawed game, for sure, and yet I find it mildly compelling in some weird way. Can't explain it. Fascination with the abomination, I guess. Bugs and Skeet Shoot are like that with me, too. (Godzilla, I await your wires!) Yeah, they're the same game I forgot how dastardly Froggo was when it came to "making" their own games My friend owns the copy I play, and I can't help but play it at least once when I go over there. You're absolutely right about its oddly addicting quality. I've never managed to get the treasure from the ship as well

I really enjoy watching his reviews as well. The way he presents all the games is just awesome (hilarious, semi-informative, laid-back, etc) and I like how he finds something to like in all of his consoles (even the 5200, though it seemed to be one of his least favorites). His reviews introduced me to some games that would later become favorites of mine, such as Sega's Afterburner and Outrun series. I was a little too young to remember those when they were in the arcades, or new on the console, but his reviews of both games drove me to purchase copies for my Genesis. Highly recommended!

These are fantastic! It's really interesting to see the Industry's view on Atari at this late stage in its life. It's generally pessimistic, but almost sort of hopeful. I like how at the '96 E3 they have no idea at all what Atari is going to do

Sea Hunt. That game is so hilariously difficult and pointless I can't help but play it, and end up in tears from laughter afterwards. You jump out of the boat, wait 5 seconds (probably get killed), move (probably get killed), try and shoot the harpoon (probably miss, and then probably get killed), and then probably get killed. It IS a Froggo game, so I don't expect it to be perfect

all presales were done by the store and not the game publisher. A lot of those stores went out of business or were absorbed into chains. The publisher also went out of business and the game is being released by a different company. Gearbox had said the want to honor those old preorders somehow, but there are a lot of lost records and potential fraud issues to deal with. how hard is it to make a fake babbages receipt? That's pretty cool that they're willing to do that, however unlikely it may be. It's even cooler that this dern game is finally being released! It'd be interesting to hear how many times different versions were scrapped over the length of its development.

Import games....may be getting blocked on Amazon UK etc
Rikkarr replied to cimerians's topic in Sony Playstation 3
The resolution Japanese games run at is identical, so it would work just fine on standard definition displays in this country. But most Playstation 3 owners are playing on HDTV's, so these region specific display standards don't matter any longer. I'm able to play any European PS3 game just fine on my PS3 on my HDTV. PAL or NTSC doesn't enter the equation when we're talking about playing a PS3 game at 720p/1080i/1080p. Because they don't own a HDTV and still want to enjoy games being released for the Playstation 3. It's not like you can go and buy a 480i release of the latest Playstation 3 game to play on your Playstation 2, so you have to purchase a Playstation 3 and have it output a 480i signal to play it. And it's not like the pretty HD graphics are the only reason to be playing games on this console. It's not rocket science. Yes, but if you can afford a $400 video game system with $60+ games, chances are you can afford a halfway decent HDTV, since you can get many 32" or smaller HD sets for under $400 these days. good luck trying to read any of the on-screen text of an HD game on a 480i tube TV. I wish I could afford one But I can't. The only reason I got a PS3 in the first place was because I had a friend selling his old one, and he cut me a great deal ($175). Of course, it's controller was broken, and it had no games, but I was able to get some for christmas. And that's pretty much what I've been doing: getting PS3 games as gifts. I do download games from PSN, but only the cheap ones, and usually when they go on sale. My current job doesn't pay well (but my co-workers ARE awesome ) and education, housing, and food are expensive, and they take priority over electronics. I also tend to play a lot of PS2 on my PS3, as the games tend to be cheaper, and I can afford more of them. So for now at least, I'm stuck with an SDTV (ALMOST got an HDTV on Black Friday, but they were sold out. Maybe next year). I do play through component, though, so it does look a little better. And as of yet, I've had no trouble reading text. Sorry if this sounded like an attack, Underball. It wasn't meant to be, you do bring up good points, I was just stating why I still use an SDTV. -
Please forgive my ignorance, and feel free to ignore this if it's a stupid suggestion, but what if you designate a "fast" button when playing with a standard controller? What I mean is, what if the catcher-thing moves at a set rate normally, but can be sped up by holding the "A" button or something? Just a suggestion, maybe it wouldn't even work well... Either way, this looks like you're doing a great job! Good luck, sir, and keep up the excellent work!

Thanks for the information, everyone! I guess that's pretty typical of me to be ignorant of all those different versions I did not know they made a TV with a built in SNES either. Nowadays Sony is using that idea in Europe, building a PS2 in an HDTV, and I know Nintendo did it before with that NES TV.

PS3 games ARE region free, but remember, they may not work if you're using an SD TV. This is at least true with PAL on an NTSC SD TV, not sure about NTSC-J on an NTSC SD TV. -
It's certainly interesting, but it can't match the original I think.

Speaking of what console to buy next...
Rikkarr replied to Algus's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'd say SMS. Lots of great games, many genres, and pretty decent quality amongst them. Not only that, but you'd round off your Sega console collection. If you have no reservations about it, you could get a Power Base converter for the Genesis (assuming you have one, of course), and essentially eclipse the libraries of the other options. I do not like the TG-16 much at all, but I know others like it a lot. Despite my dislike of it, I would still recommend it, because many people seem to enjoy it. I would avoid the 5200, and as save2600 and phaxda said, get an Atari 8-bit if you want to go that route. That said, the 5200 is okay once you get nice controllers for it, and its history and enormous size make it an interesting conversation piece. -
I've been playing Valkyria Chronicles almost non-stop for a while, but I think I'll cool off and play some Oblivion GOTY for a few hours.

Hello everyone! I have a question... I've tried google, as well as the AA search function, but I can't find an answer to this question. Maybe I just suck at searching? I once read that there were a few variations of the original SNES. I think they had internal differences, but I'm not sure. I also remember reading that you could check which version you had by the FCC label on the bottom (stamped on vs sticker). Is this true? PS. If what I said above is right, my SNES has the FCC stuff printed into the plastic, not a sticker.

The Dreamcast is a great system! I highly recommend it, especially some of the Japanese shmups! I, personally, never liked the TG-16 (even though I love shmups O_o), but I'd actually say that might be a nice one to try out, as many hold it very highly. I also own a Jaguar, and enjoy it a LOT, but I'll admit, its not for everyone. Nice find on the GB GCN adapter! That's a great thing to own, and it works REALLY well! Congrats!

What are you planning to play tonight?
Rikkarr replied to JayWI's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I guess I'll play some Darkstalkers for PS1, after I get a bit of studying out of the way...
