Like many of us, I own the 7800, XL/XE as well as other systems and I'm a HUGE fan of the old arcade ports but some 2600 ports just do not hold up well over time especially when compared with their 7800/5200/XL cousins. Some examples:
Centipede
Millipede
Dig Dug
Joust
Moon Patrol
Mario Bros
Pole Position
Just to name a few. There are much better versions on the other Atari systems, not to mention non atari systems, that I find it very hard to go back and play some of these 2600 ports. There are exceptions of course, I love 2600 Asteroids, Space Invaders, Phoenix, Ms Pacman, Stargate. But I just can't play 2600 Defender when the 8-bit version is so much better. I find Joust and Dig Dug unplayable on the 2600 when compared to the 7800 or 8-bit versions.
Maybe I'm getting old and jaded but when I have the 7800 hooked up and I want to play some old arcade ports, I'll always choose the 7800 version if available and the 2600 versions are collecting dust. Does anyone else feel this way?
Generally I agree, but take exception with Millipede. The graphics are crude, but I think the gameplay is excellent.

Went to a flea market and spotted some interesting labels. You know the routine, flea market stall, all the N64 and Genny games in the glass display case low, Xbox and PS2 games up front and centre then some dusty corner that hasnt been visited in years there is the collection of Combat and Asteroids 2600 games in a pile of dust. So I get the guy to haul them out and they are Taiwan multicarts for $2 each with switches on them to select a game. Get em home and none work. These go along with some S. American carts I have that if you can coax one or two titles to work out of the 8 on the cart you are lucky. Hate to destroy the labels to open them up.
Is this along other's experiences? Are these just typically poor design and quality?
Oh and I dont think buddy knew much about the Atari, I mean I dont think they were $2 because they didnt work, he was a nice young guy and I DID also score an NTSC Gas Hog for $2 too along with some other titles and they work fine.
I have a few Brazilian 4-in-one multicarts with 2 switches. They're difficult to use, requiring several attempts to switch from one game to another, but they all work eventually. However, I don't know if this problem will worsen over time until they don't work at all.
Congrats on the Gas Hog!

ROLLAGE! 999,999 +1
I even when to the Monkeys level at 970ks...
then the game ended perfectly, I rolled it by completing the final TREASURE ROOM!
Glad that's over.
"Tomorrow I rest"
Congrats on the roll, Jacob!
Does the game actually end after you roll it or did you quit at that point?

Or you can click on the back arrow thingyDoes that work when the pop-up image box thingy comes up?
It worked for me, but maybe it depends on the computer you're using. Different computers have different thingies.

Ha! Deliverance!! That could be a Mystique game where the object is to sodomize a helpless Ned Beatty......"Squeal like a pig!"

Gorfy officially has the most annoying little icon for his screen pic........no offence meant..but its annoying!
Thank you. I'm glad it's now official

That image is so large I had to close the AtariAge tab because it was clogging up my computer and I couldn't get to the close thingy. You might want to resize it with something like IrfanView.
Or you can click on the back arrow thingy

I'm dismayed that a game based on the Lost in Space t.v. series was never made! As Dr. Smith would say, "the pain, the pain of it all!".
-
I'm guessing it's worth around $15.00 - $20.00, which is roughly what it would cost you to have the AtariAge store or a site like Hozer custom make one for you. I could be wrong if you have some special limited edition version

I was using a USB 2600 type controller, and then I went back to an arcade stick (which has switches that register as keyboard input keys). I just have trouble getting the cursor to move either fast enough or slow enough to hit what I want it to, but that's probably just part of the challenge of the game. Maybe I'll try a gamepad and see if I can improve.
I think funky control is just part of the game, but you get used to it with practice. I've been using a regular 2600 joystick with the Stelladaptor.

improvement but not much. 436,650
its frustrating when you have to play so long to surpass your high score and then you die when you get just a few points beyond it

Tell me about it. I just got to 421,000 about 15,000 short of my record and I was furious. You play all that just to come up short or barely pass your high. BTW, great job with the 801,200
Thanks, Frostbite76!

Welcome aboard! I, too, am a 45 yr old embroiled in a mid-life crisis. I rediscovered ataritherapy a little over a year ago and I'm still going strong......
Enjoy your games and your poptarts (now i got the munchies)

Did the market dry up?There are two on GameGavel at the moment. Link. The guy also has some other rare Atari stuff, including a bunch of sealed late-release games.

Thanks for the link, Zero

Go to my link for all variations that are known. If you have something not listed, let me know and get me scans of the games. Thanks.
Phil
I didn't know about this site. Thanks.

Yep just checked... my Porkys and MASH both have the logo, none of the others do.
Only missing about 3-4 Fox games.
Bank Heist would be a game I'd like to get soon.
Many Fox games I really like,
Fantastic Voyage
Porkys (cheap but addicting)
MASH
Alien
Crypts of Chaos
Worm War I
Flash Gordon (although often not liked by others)
I'd like Beany Bopper, if the score didn't roll at 100ks.
I wanna play Mega Force and learn that game, I am not sure if it's
good or not.
Other ones by Fox that gamers seem to like,
Turmoil (a highly regarded game)
Fast Eddie
Beefsteak Tomatoes (is this sorta hinting at killer tomatoes?)
The one I don't like,
Deadly Duck = yuck! lol. It's too easy and boring.
I like Deadly Duck. It's only too easy for master HSC Atarians like yourself.

CROSSBOW LEVEL: IN THE CHAMBER
In this scene, spiders and arrows are the enemies.
The spiders appear randomly from the right or the left side of the screen, one at a time, and are slower than an arrow. When a spider touches a friend, you have 2 seconds to destroy it; else...you will lose the current guy in the chamber.
The arrows come from the right side until a friend reaches the center of the screen, i.e., the CENTER DOOR. After this, arrows come from another side of the screen (i.e., left side). They appear one at a time too, but they kill a friend instantaneously at the contact.
Your goal is to destroy the enemies positioning your cursor near your friend, who must leave the chamber safety at least once to complete this stage.
Remember: the left door is the entry, and the right door, the exit.
I solved to draw this Crossbow scene although I'm not a good artist.
Your art work is better than mine. My drawing skills never did progress much further than the pre-K level.
