  1. Don't worry Gorfy, I was almost fooled into buying an Eli's Ladder Cart from Hozer Myself. Thankfully I was outbid. If I known it was repro, I wouldn't paid a dime for it.

Yeah, I've been saved by overbidders as well!

  2. Hozer repros of rare carts have been reported by dozens of AA members for years, ebay doesn't give a rats ass about new collectors getting duped. I am done now, you obviously don't understand or don't want to.

I understand. When I first started collecting, I was one of the "fools" duped into buying a Hozer cart for too much, although nowhere near $142. The ebay seller did mention that the cart was a Hozer, but at that point I didn't know Hozer from Salu or even Imagic, for that matter. Therefore, it didn't occur to me that it was a reproduction. Ebay sellers should explicitly label Hozer carts as reproductions. The attitude that those who don't know any better deserve to get screwed smacks a little too much of social Darwinism for my tastes.

I wouldn't mind an Eli's Ladder from Hozer, it is no different than the Best Electronics 2600 Pengo, 2600 Quadrun, 2600 protos like Donald Duck's Speedboat, Frog Pond, The A Team etc... I purchased from them during the mid 90s.

They came in carts like this (Bottom right hand side):

    Picture014.jpg

Quadrun or Pengo (can't remember which that one was) can be seen on the bottom right, a Best cartridge from the mid 90s.

I don't have a problem with Hozer's as long as it's advertised and priced fairly. Now that I know better, I would buy directly from Hozer's rather than off ebay.

  3. Hello! For whatever reason I'm obsessed with the artwork on the BASIC Programming cart.

On top of that, at work it seems as if there is an informal contest to make the most obscure and cool T-Shirt possible, and I want one of BASIC Programming.

Well, so far I've found some decent scans, but they are all either small or have the big "SPECIAL EDITION" business blocking out part of the lower right corner of the artwork.

Sooo...I am humbly asking if someone could make as hi-res as possible of a scan of the cover art of a version that does not say "SPECIAL EDITION". I will be very grateful, and can order you a shirt like it if interested.

I'm assuming this is too small. The AA uploader wouldn't handle the larger bitmap file. I think 2 MB is the largest file it will take. If you know of a way around this prob, let me know and I'd be happy to try again. Or perhaps I could send the picture directly from scanner to email (i'm not very experienced with picture files) Also, note the scratches on the right side of the image -- not sure if this would be acceptable for your purposes. :ponder:

  5. I have been trying to figure this one out....I have seen Atari (and other vintage games) listed on eBay that are so dirty, they look as though they have been buried in the backyard for the past 30 years! I know that items tend to get dusty and what not, but some of these are just ridiculous!

I was looking on ePay for a nice (cheap) 6 switcher to add to my collection. Here is what I found:

    post-29022-0-64476300-1300808860_thumb.png

Look at that thing...it looks like a hurricane Katrina survivor (barely). I may just be ranting at this point, but I am dumbfounded by the ability to get something this filthy and have the nerve to NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO CLEAN IT before snapping a pic and putting it up on eBay. That really grinds my gears

    [/quote

In a way, it's more honest to post the picture without cleaning it so that potential bidders have an idea of the condition in which the item has been kept over time. A person could get that stuff clean and shiny on the surface, while underneath lurks corrosive crud!

  6. Anybody know of posted instructions on how to clean the cartridge port safely? I'm not an electronics guy and don't want to start taking consoles apart if I don't know what i'm doing :!:

It's pretty easy, and you don't have to take your console apart. I do this:

    1) Expose the port.

    - Atari games have little tabs that push open the door covering your port. However, you can also open this door without a cartridge. Just observe where the cartridge tabs press to open the door. I just stuck some stir sticks in there. If you have an Atari Jr then skip this step as there is no cover for it!

    2) Clean the port with such tools as a vacuum, can of compressed air, and some tweezers (for hair and other crap that won't come out).

    - You can get a can of compressed air from any computer store, but look for good deal or they will gouge you. Read the label on the can of compressed air before using it. The label will tell you how to orient the can properly so that the gases mix well.

    3) Wipe the port.

    - Chop a plastic card that you don't use (I used my library card ha ha) to about 2/3 the length of the port. This length leaves you room to slide the card up and down in the port.

    - Next, cut some strips of blank paper and wrap them around the card.

    - Apply a cleaner to paper. I went down to the drugstore and bought a bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol (99% pure). Works great. I applied it to the paper with some Q-tips.

    - Now scrub the port with the paper wrapped around the card. Change the paper as needed.

My only tip here is to get a feel of how much alcohol to put on the paper. Too much alcohol, and the paper becomes weak and won't scrub as much.

Excellent!! I'm printing this out for use on a rainy day--- which is most days in Cleveland

    Thanks :!:

  7. News at 12 instead. DAMN YOU PORKY'S! Seriously, two in a row? This sucks. Now I need to get another damn copy. Blast it to hell.

Why not just buy a Harmony cart for the games you want to play? I mean I have a ton of loose Atari games in my collection, but I just use the Harmony for playing.

Also, you might want to clean the cartridge port on your 2600.

For really dirty ports, I use 400grit autobody paper folded over twice into an inch wide strip. Then I work it carefully up and down while moving it from one side to the other.

It does remove a miniscule amount of metal, but very effective.

    I guess I can't use my Aldi's toilet paper ---- that's about 16 grit :-o

    OK, Mord. Your turn....

    At first I was like

Mainly because I don't think I'll have a chance of beating it by Monday. :)

But to give others a glimmer of hope, I offer up a work in progress:

    nice power-up chart

The speed-up one frightens me. I feel like I'm astrally projecting outside my body....

  9. Emulation question: When i press F12 to take a screenshot on Stella, a message briefly appears at the botton of the screen to indicate that the command registered. The problem is that I don't know where the screenshot is saved and therefore cannot access it to upload for the HSC threads. Are screenshots saved by default to a specific location?

It's saturday all right, we ain't got nothin' to do, but play Mario all nite!! The missus is mad, so I'll give her the hand.

    :P

Welcome back home Gorfy. *mario hugs*

My new score, level 21? :ponder:

    188,800

Thanks, Jacob. I got a lot of catching up to do, though. ;)

  12. Another question related to emulation: where do you find ROM's and manual scans for 7800 homebrews, such as Failsafe? I'd like to buy them all, but I'm mired in a bit of poverty at the moment. Besides, my 7800 console still needs repair (gotta teach myself how to solder and whatnot).

Good question, i'm not sure where to find scans of the homebrew manuals. But AA has scans of the game manuals for games that were released back in the day.

Here the ROM for Failsafe. :)

Some of the other homebrew ROMs are in the 7800 hacks section i think. :)

Thanks, Roadrunner. I appreciate the link to Failsafe, and more importantly, all the work you do as 7800 moderator!

Thanks, since i took over the 7800 HSC i added the all time records and hall of fame threads. I added a few new rules in the rulebook.

And had to go thur that 40 page thread of previous rounds. Some of the games the scores weren't put all in one post.

And at the end of the thread i put together a list of all the the games that were played.

I took a long time to do all of that.

I still wish the previous HSC Mod was still running the 5200 and 7800 HSC's. It would give me more time to play these games.

I hope darthkur is doing OK wherever he is at. :)

The all-time records and hall of fame threads are nice additions
