  1. Enough with the Food Fight already. I know it's a great game, one of the better ones for the system, but for those of us in the HSC, it's been voted in almost every time it is an option to. We need to keep more variety, and also support the homebrew artists as well. I think it would spur a little more interest for people to buy games like Failsafe, or whatever, if there is some online competition for it. Every sale counts for those who make the homebrews. How is the decision process with these polls made up, anyway? Do you just pick a random 6 games, or is it a computerized lottery, or what? With such a small library of games, it would be nice to see some of the rarer selections make it into the high score club. Otherwise it's always Centipede and Food Fight. It was nice to see Ninja Golf up there a few months back, that was a fun competition.

Being new to the 7800 HSC, I didn't realize that Food Fight had been overrepresented in this club. Most of these games are new to me, as I just purchased a 7800 console a year ago, so I simply vote for a game I'd like to try. If it helps, I'm willing to rescind my vote and abstain from voting in the future since it doesn't matter that much to me which game is selected.

I like the idea of encouraging homebrew purchases very much. Unfortunately, I don't have the financial means to buy them very often

  2. Another question related to emulation: where do you find ROM's and manual scans for 7800 homebrews, such as Failsafe? I'd like to buy them all, but I'm mired in a bit of poverty at the moment. Besides, my 7800 console still needs repair (gotta teach myself how to solder and whatnot).

  3. When I was buying my Compumate last year on ebay, there seemed to be a sudden influx of Compumates on the market, especially from Venezuela. When I searched ebay yesterday for a Compumate, there were none. Did the market dry up?

Correction: there is one up for sale on ebay from Venezuela. When i looked yesterday, i made the mistake of looking under the category of video games, but its listed under vintage computer. Now to decide whether I can actually afford to buy another one of these things.....

  5. So what do you propose I do to make it better? It is free to list, free seller stores, free bulk uploaded, free promotional tools, etc, etc. And you have a free seller account so I can't imagine what I could do better? If you are still bent out of shape because I had to choose to have credit cards on file, that was simply a change we had to make to collect what small fees we do charge.

If GG has failed anywhere, it is with sellers who use it once, over price their items so they wouldn't sell anywhere, and then blame the site publicly. There is and has been a whole lot of gaming heart and soul poured into GG over the years so sorry it has been lost on you. GG is still the one only gaming auction site and we aren't going to stop until it reaches critical mass.

Yep, it sure would be a great time for Game Gavel to be a better site. Too bad.

More power to ya! We need alternatives to the giant corporate conglomerates :!:

  6. Thanks Gorfy. The only thing that was holding me back was the treasures located on the bottom. All you have to do is just keep going back and forth till you have the perfect angle. Todd Rodgers must have played that game for 6 hours to get that score, lol.

Todd Rodgers must be a maniac.

  7. Dang, your scores are amazing! I can't even do better than my score on the first day. I'll get on a decent run and then lose most of my men in a few seconds. Very frustrating. Oh well, I've got a package of recently purchased homebrews to play :D

I'm pretty frustrated with this game, too. Did you get any further in the Haunted Adventure Trilogy?

  8. Are there two different versions of CompuMate, one for NTSC and one for PAL consoles?

I think there was only ever a PAL version, but other than a different color palette I think it would work the same on a NTSC console.

As a test here is some photos of the screen from my CompuMate on a PAL console. Can someone please compare this to it on an NTSC console.

It looks like what I saw on my NTSC console. I just assumed the Compumate itself is NTSC.

  9. 44,180. I could do better if I could figure out a way to control my nerves. I get too nervous when I play fast paced games. Also, to avoid cheap instant deaths, hold right on the joystick as soon as you die to avoid a double death. Sometimes if you die and you're still pressing to the left, your guy will popout of the hideout without even knowing.

I find that i can control my anxiety and relax more when i intentionally ignore the score until the game is over. This is especially important for when I'm doing well--if i know i'm in striking range of a new high score, then I really tense up and push too hard, which inevitably leads to disappointing results. :|

  10. A little improvement,

Not getting the best treasures, I never got a full room of diamonds yet.

I remember I got all diamonds a couple times when I played this game years ago, I think Dragonfire is onto me. :P

One games loot was so bad, I had 4ks at the first White Dragon stage.

I got a room full of diamonds once--during an abysmal game in which i only had a couple lives left. I think i scored 5K or 6K that game. What a waste :(

  11.

Call me crazy but i pefer RS Baseball.

Crazy is not the word for it. :)

I've played Pete Rose baseball on the 7800, but not Realsports Baseball. Which is the better game? (perhaps i should pose this question in a separate thread :?: ).

Most people would certainly prefer PR, as it's oddness can be learned and dealt with. Once you "get it" you can beat up on the computer. Realsports is odd precisely because it is nearly impossible to win, and the computer will pound you into the dirt with the slightest mistake.

Still, it grows on you if you really spend time on it. Look at our High Score thread on it and you'll see how much we started to get into it.

Yeah, we played RS Baseball in Season 3 Variety pack round 7.

Alot of good dissusion about this game in that thread. :)

Thanks, Atarifever and Roadrunner. I'll definitely check out that thread.

  12. This game is more difficult for me because I suck at games that require you to jump and duck (especially platform jumping games; this holds true even for the ones that I like, such as Kangaroo and Frostbite). Perhaps this is due to the fact that i never played Nintendo, and consequently missed that critical period in my video game playing development :ponder:

  13. Another good one is the homebrew, Rastar Fahndung, which is a visual analysis type of puzzle game. You have to find a specific pattern that's set against a background of similar shapes within a given time limit. Well, it's better than my description, so give it a try!

  14. My serial no. is: BC0100014722 . I have the box, manual, original cord for hooking up with a tape recorder, warranty card, and a small Spectravideo catalogue. I purchased it last year from Venezuela for about $100.00.

I like your idea about repairing Compumates, but don't know if there would be any interest in it out there. A little while back I wrote a post asking if anyone had any experience repairing the Compumate, but nobody responded :(
