This looks really neat. I just wish I could figure out how to get my emulator up and running to give it a whirl. I love the box art. It's so fantastic to see people still in love with these old systems. The Atari 2600 was my first video game system way back in '79 and I haven't stopped loving those old school games even though I love a lot of new school games, too. Excellent work.
If you need help with emulation, feel free to ask questions in the 7800 forums. This site is teeming with knowledgeable people.

Thanks for the informative podcast and the helpful links, especially the link to the walkthrough solution for Dark Mage.

I love it when someone has a completely bonkers idea, and instead of just giggling it away actually goes and does it
Next up in VCS hipsterdom - a console with vacuum tubes and Theremin controllers...
Theremin controllers would be awesome

Hey, at least he didn't post something better than half the other scores (including mine) and call that a "participation point" like he's done with other games.
LMAO!

DONKEY KONG - 1000 (for 1-point participation)
Sorry, no video. Exceptionally I will not submit videos in this HSC when I post scores which are poor at my own discretion.
Why only participation points, Oyamafamily?
I though maybe this would be the season you go for it all....

Um, I've got a dumb question: How do you fire? Can't find the right key

So I guess I'm not smart enough to pass the second screen. None of the ladders on the top row let you climb? Is the right one random or something?
You don't get to the top of the screen. On each floor, you must walk over each of the little segments that disappears as you walk over them. Then the level is complete. Poor description on my part, but does that make sense?

Can we start playing now, or do we wait until Monday to post scores?

I missed out on the text adventure craze back in the day, so when I learned a few years ago that there was one available on a 2600 cartridge, I jumped at the chance to experience these two retro technologies married together on a cart. I had high expectations since one of my favorite Atari games, Stellar Track, was based on a text adventure game. Dark Mage gave me the opportunity to experience a real text adventure, and I was not disappointed. I found it to be more difficult than I expected, primarily due to my poor sense of direction and inability to draw mental maps. But nonetheless, I experienced it as a true adventure and took pleasure in stumbling upon clues to the game. Overall, the game has wetted my appetite for exploring the world of text adventure a little more.

Bonus....
I tried playing this game three times, and hated every second of it. Aside from the terrible graphics, the control scheme seems counterintuitive and difficult to get accustomed to. In all fairness to Froggo though, I tend to dislike fighting games anyway, even Boxing by much revered Activision.
A pet peeve of mine is when a game does not show the score at the end of the game. To get a screenshot I had to watch the clock and hit F12 before the last second (mercifully) expired.

42400. I figured I'd just throw a crappy score in here for fun. The last time I did this was 2012, haha.
Good to see you back, atariUCLA24!
