The closest thing to a rare game I had in the 80s was a copy of Stellar Track I picked up at Sears. Still one of my all-time favorites, but only a rarity of 4.

I got to meet Al Lewis and shake his hand at his restaurant many years ago, I think in the late '80s or early '90's. I was very elated, and quite drunk at the time Fun times in NYC!

Variation 3 isn't much different than variation 1, at least it didn't seem to me.

Sounds like a good idea, You could have the top 4 players who are interested be the team captains, that way they don't get concentrated into just one or two powerhouse teams.
