  1. Now that my 2600 is up and running, I picked up some games locally and ended up with some dups.

    My game duplicate tally:

    DONKEY KONG x2 Coleco version

DEFENDER (this is a fun game! one of my favorites so far! pic one)

    ASTEROIDS (pic one)

BREAKOUT (the bomb but my cx 30s are jumpy, i need to swap out the parts! pic one)

    COMBAT x2 ATARI TEXT ones

Anyone want to trade for a pacman or anything else that might be fun?

So far Defender, Freeway, Tennis, and Breakout have been my choice ones! Slot racer sucks! Berserker is fun though sort of a precursor to FPSs!

  2. I just got this and I am curious as to how to play...I will consult the manual on here!

One thing that I take for granted on new games is the background story cinema, the online help available in the game, a pause button etc!

Wish me luck! Just got my Atari 2600 "heavy sixer" working!

  3. Hi List!

I would like to thank AJ for his help....

The voltage regulator is swapped and my unit is working as it should...

Really cool thing is that the Sanyo TV I have it plugged into via RF coax has audio outs!

So if I want I will run it through a big stereo system to get some full on Atari arcade action (will be be mono or stereo?

I assume its mono but it will come out "fake" stereo, which means the mono channel will come out both speakers?!

Anyway I digress am already off topic on my own thread!

  4. i saw a youtube video where someone was doing some fun stuff with it and the MIDI kit but yea its not all that i would just use the rom in emulation...i think it can play 33 drum beats, you got square, saw, and some video game samples sounds?! i forget yeah look on youtube / google for instructions....

send to me if you want to dump for cheap!

    cheers,

  5. sounds good!

one thing i noticed is the game select wasn't working but i cleaned all the contacts and its working now....

not sure about the other switches...the power works, though touchy, assume the color select works (when i move to b*w it doesn't do anything to the image), the reset works fine but not sure about the difficultly switches....

I will give a good clean again in the morning and am looking on CL for some more carts to play!

  6. UPDATE!

    GOT IT!

The voltage regulator was indeed croaked...

swapped it out with a new one from the shack (wack shack if you ask me!) and it powered right on! :lust:

Man I suck at old games...

I just finished a set 3 in tennis and the cpu kicked my butt! LOL

Also, asteroids is tough as nails...

I guess you can only thrust pressing the joystick up...

i got to clean the carts, the card slot, and my joysticks and i should be well on my way to vintage 1908s mullet video arcade stylez!

Any ideas on what to use for cleaning the contacts in the carts and the slot? I was thinking something like calilube deoxit or just some plain old electronics cleaner.

  7. Ok I did that...

Looks like I Am getting a voltage on the output pin now but its got 5v...it stays around 1.64V~1.66V.

I will keep it plugged in for a bit to see if she warms up to me! but it looks like the voltage is still too low to sue for the rest of the board ( i guess the microprocessing and ram chips use +5 for the logic?)

At least this means that the proprietary chips might still be alive and well! I will replace the non-expensive regulator and then take another set of measurements...

    Thanks for the tip!

    :D

  8. Yea after I posted this I thought about what else could go wrong....

    The regulator doesn't look burnt...

How would I unsolder the one leg though? Just suck the solder up on the regulated side leg and retake the measurement?

I guess that with the regualted side still connected and the unregualted side "free", I should take the voltage and see if it is around +5V?

Thanks for the tip will try after my coffee!

  9. :lust:

Hi All! First post here and I thought I would chime in on this topic as its right up my alley...

Long story short, ok short story even more short, I got a free Atari 2600 cx from a person off of CL. I am not noob with electronics and after opening her up begain tracing around for what was wrong....

Power adapter working fine...getting 14V....also getting 14V at the unregulated side of the regulator....

    After this things go south...

On the 5V side I get nothing...

The volt. reg.is not warming up after 30 minutes of power so I will assume a dead unit.

I am hitting the shack tomorrow and will swap out and let you guys know how it went...

    wish me luck!
