What kind of glue should I use for detached labels?
atari2atari replied to Gorfy's topic in Atari 2600
Hmm, I'll try using glue sticks instead of Rubber Cement. I was quite pleased with how it worked on a few labels, but did wonder about any possible reactions. I'd always used it for photographs in books, and never had a problem, but I think that is because the photo paper is relatively inert? I was thinking the labels were like that, too, but they are more "paper-ey" than that, I suppose. -a2a EDIT: Wikipedia does not have a lot of love for rubber cement, either - - "Because rubber cements are designed to peel easily or rub off without damaging the paper or leaving any trace of adhesive behind, they are ideal for use in paste-up work where excess cement might need to be removed. It also does not become brittle as paste does. Rubber cement is not considered an archivally sound adhesive and will cause deterioration of photographs and papers over time, a danger associated with many other common adhesives." From wikipedia.org - Rubber cement - Hazards -
Since some of you might not venture into the Marketplace forum much, I thought I would re-post the link to my documentation of a GREAT April Fool's joke from yesterday! THREAD LINK - "Conclusion to multiple COMMAVID games for ATARI 2600 - Complete in box!" Quite the well-played joke, and would have only snagged the most educated Atari fans - - and it did! It wasn't MY joke, but I wish it had been! Hit the link above to read all about it. Cheers! -a2a

Very straight-forward and professional seller. I purchased a PS2 game from him, and the was on the ball from start to finish of the deal. It arrived quickly, well-packaged, and was exactly as described. His prices are also realistic, and respectful. I think anyone would be pleased to do business with Jess Ragan, and I fully recommend him. -atari2atari

Fantastic seller - - I completely recommend him! His communication, honesty, shipping method, and shipping speed are all excellent. He was very honest and forthright about the EXACT condition of the N64 Conker's Bad Fur Day cartridge I bought from before we concluded the sale, and was willing to negotiate a fair price and trade. I think you will be pleased with any purchase you make from fmdof. -atari2atari

Well, the joke has been had! It wasn't mine, but I wish it had been - - a great April Fools! I actually got some correspondence from the fellow who posted this joke, starting with this email - - And, of course, it came complete with the special Atari-ized Rick Roll'd video (very nice, might come in handy someday!) BUT, that wasn't enough for me - - it was obviously a form-letter response for the replies he got, and I HAD to know more, so I wrote back, asking for the full story. He wrote back, and it turns out he is a "long-time AtariAge member," actually owns all these (a complete set of COMMAVID carts, in the box), as well as some others (T-handle Air Raid, boxed Music Machine)! Here's his email: And, in case you can't see those images, here they are, posted separately: Quite the joke! And he posted it many places across the country! Good collection, too -- glad SOMEBODY owns those! -a2a

It's just waaaaaaaay to amazing to be true . . . and posted at 6 AM on April Fool's, so that it is listed first on craigs? It just had to be an April Fool's joke. If not, I hope SOMEONE is sitting in their living room right now, with their mind blown at their new, amazing riches! I'd like to know who posted it though - - they are my kinda hero, that was a GREAT joke, and very targeted to some hard-core Atari enthusiasts! -a2a
-
That's what blows my mind - - - - unless this is some excellent Photoshop work (possible) then somewhere, at some point in time, this picture was taken . . . and those were all there. I like to dream that it was actually from an unnoticed auction, or a craigslist posting of yore, and some Atari freak went home VERY happy or got a package that blew their mind. Best April Fool's I have seen in a while . . . ! (And, yes, I did email them promptly, just minutes after the post, and then waited several hours before sharing this with you all - - hey, it's April Fool's day, but you never can tell! ) -a2a
-
Awww, you took all the fun away! I had to leave a hint SOMEWHERE, though! Seriously, though, this is NOT my craigslist posting - - that's the BEST part of this whole thing! Some other twisted individual in the Denver area put this up at 6 AM this morning! Best part (part 2) - - I actually fell for it and shot a quick email offering some lame $100 amount! So, /slowclap to whoever in the Denver area knew how to pull an Atari enthusiasts leg - - hard! Great April Fools! I saved the image from the posting for later use . . . never can tell when that will come in handy! -a2a

What kind of glue should I use for detached labels?

I am a fan of rubber cement - - any overflow is easily rubbed off without any residue. -a2a -
Well, the joke's been had, and I got some excellent conclusion to it all from the person who started it - - see my last post at the end of this thread for details! An AtariAge member, and he actually owns all these lovely games! ### SO, my lady has handed down a moratorium on my hobby purchasing for a while, otherwise I'd be on this like white on rice! Saw it on craigslist this morning, a nice set of COMMAVID carts with what appears to be boxes, too. Somebody should really jump on this . . . ! Here's the link ("Atari 2600 & games" on denver.craigslist.org) - - and then just the image from the posting, too, as well as a copy of the posting is down below, for those that hate link-jumping: Good luck, looks like some nice ones in there . . . -a2a

Sean1 is a fantastic person to deal with - - We did a trade of some Mac OS X software for some video games (SNES and Atari carts and some Playstation games). His communication, speed of delivery, quality of packaging, and the excellence of the items traded for was top-shelf. I would highly recommend doing business with him! -atari2atari

You're welcome! Glad it worked! Very satisfying to get those old machines back to spec! -a2a

Here's some more information from the fount of knowledge, Wikipedia - - Panasonic Q Great device, plays DVDs, and has other features, too. -a2a

Oh yeah, these! Limited run deals, and note that this one is only Region 2 - - Japan. It could be modded, I suppose, to be region free or switched. I always liked these - - very different. I will be interested to watch this and see what it goes for! -a2a

One man made richer . . . and another made richer as well! So the collection grows! -a2a

I also have a loose 4-port switch box, if the above trade doesn't work out and you still need one! -a2a

I purchased from whiskeyriver several times - - - - a set of Dreamcast games, and a few NES ones, all of which were as described, and came excellently packed - - a collection of Gamecube games, and another NES cart, which also came well-packed, and quickly! His communication and business-like manner all facilitated an excellent transaction both times. I would recommend purchasing from him. -atati2atari

Hmm, first thing I notice is the - - "16 turbo graphics cord" Geez, I want one of THOSE! Does it come with a flux capacitor and some extra dilithium crystals? -a2a

Wow, just wow! I think I will just repost this description from eBay so I can see it here in plain text and try to fathom it . . . and the rest of us as well . . . Yes, it is a wall of text, but like codebreakers, or archeologists, (or perhaps psychologists?) we must persevere and attempt to pull what knowledge we can from this . . . artifact . . . "This is an Atari 2600 Darth Vader System. This is a special system because it is a Prototype. You can tell this is a prototype because the date on the bottom of the system is April 5, 1981 and the Darth Vader didn't officially come out until 1982. You can also tell it's a prototype because of the orange ring around the switches instead of the all black on black color scheme. The very first prototypes had an orange ring instead of a black ring and this was changed in 1982 to go with the all black on black color scheme. The original Darth Vader prototypes nicknamed the Light Saber because of the orange ring around the switches was later nicknamed the Darth Vader because of the all black color scheme. I just sold one of these Darth Vaders that I bought in 1984 it came with a 16 turbo graphics cord which was used on Atari Computers up until they started putting them on the Atari 7800 pro system. It was a one of a kind one out of 20,000 and it sold for $330.00. The one I am selling today I got from my friend who had the original Darth Vader which I didn't know was a prototype until I noticed the orange ring and the date on the bottom of the system and did some research and found out it was dubbed the Light Saber Darth Vader. This was the first Atari Game System to ever use the 16 turbo graphics cord along with the newer technology added to the motherbaord to give it better graphics and sound than the regular tv cord that was put on the Atari making it by far the nicest graphics and sound wise Atari ever made!!! Even better than the Heavy Sixer it's more like the 5200 Super System. There are only a hand full of these prototype Light Saber Darth Vaders in circulation. This was a promotional Atari that my friend won from an Atari Game Challenge. I can't remember which game it was but he won second prize and received this Atari as one of his prizes and when he got it they told him it was far better graphics and sound wise than the one he previously owned. He also got 2 Lazer Quick Fire Adapters along with a couple hitech controllers. I told him last week that the one that I put on with the 16 turbo graphics sold for $330 and he said he wondered what he can get out of his prototype. Since it was a prototype and came out 3 years before mine and he won it at one of the Atari Challenges back in mid 1981 he's excited to see what kind of money his will bring so I agreed to post it on Ebay for him. This system is also extra special because unlike any other Darth Vader I have ever seen this one also comes with the original Darth Vader game center and storage case which has the black on black color scheme as well as the Darth Vader "D" emblem on the front. This has been in dry storage since 1985. We recently tested it and all of the games and everything is in good working order. The games are as follows : Donkey Kong Pitfall Frogger Pole Position Kaboom Sea Quest Star Master River Raid Fishin Derby Chopper Command Stampede Boxing Human Cannonball Space Invaders Asteroids Yars Revenge Slot Racers Dodge em Centipede Missle Command Indy 500 with Driving Paddle (tested and working jitter free) This system also comes with a Darth Vader controller and a slick stick controller. I have seen one of these Darth Vader Game Center Storage cases before and it sold for over $100.00 and it wasn't in near good as shape as this one is. The prototype Darth Vader is worth anywhere from $200 to $500. The games listed are worth around $40. So in total this lot is worth anywhere from $350 to $650 or more!!! I'm starting this out at 99cents with no reserve leaving it up to you the bidders to determine what it's worth to you!!! I have only seen one these other than my friends in the 25 plus years I have been an Atari enthusiast. So if you can get this piece of Atari gaming history for any reasonable price I would buy it right away and bid with confidence!!!! This is a must have for any gamer or collector for that matter anybody who is interested in video games or their history because this system started the Darth Vader revolution!!! This was the start of the video game phenomenon!!!!" Amazing . . . Question, anyone? Questions? Anyone? -a2a

I have a full, retail version of Mac OS X 10.5.6, complete with all packaging and in excellent, un-worn condition. It is this, exactly: Mac OS X 10.5.6 on Amazon.com It is not longer installed on any machine, nor was it used as a "first step" in an upgrade process, such as moving to Snow Leopard. Installing this copy on your machine would be considered acceptable under the Apple EULA. I would happily sell this to you for $100, PayPal gift, shipping and insurance included in that price. Let me know! -a2a
