EDIT: nevermind! I linked to a post that wasn't relevant! -a2a

Yeah, the Video Game Selector center really makes the scene! Love those things, wouldn't mind one. Uhmm, and the space to put it in. Minus the flowery wallpaper . . . -a2a

Just bumping this old thread - - Koppa's and their current ATARI setup was featured on reddit recently, with new pictures. I just noticed it today. Can't find the original reddit link now . . . it's several pages deep, it appears. Kinda fun, and I found this old thread with older pictures, so I thought I would add these new ones to it! images taken from: http://imgur.com/a/DwewE http://www.koppas.com/ Looks like they still sell their "FREE ATARI" t-shirt. Might have to get that! -a2a

Funny / Stupid / Crazy / Lame Auction Listings

Today's craigslist treasure here in the Denver area . . . http://denver.craigslist.org/vgm/3521450028.html Let me translate for you - - "I have taken average, potentially damaged discs, and scrubbed them in a disc cleaner I think that you should consider these better than pristine, clean discs I replaced the crystal cases with whatever I had around that looked nicer Then, I have sealed the discs and cases using my own shrink-wrap machine so you can't look at them In my opinion, this is JUST like getting something CiB - - you are really getting something special I will charge you a non-refundable deposit to open and look at them, although I guess I could just re-shrink wrap them again, now that you mention it . . ." Ahhhh . . . a lovely Friday posting. Someone will likely buy it all, though. It's craigs . . . people are nuts. -a2a -
Funny / Stupid / Crazy / Lame Auction Listings
atari2atari replied to nofrills100's topic in Auction Central
Oh man. Holy CRT monitors, Batman . . . Considering that nowadays each one of those costs a few bucks to dispose of, this hoard is more of a liability to the buyer than anything. Unless you could use them as boat anchors. Or fishing net floats, maybe. Target practice? Catapult ammunition? Best part - - the portion of the listing that gets out of the warehouse and shows pictures in a . . . bus? Camper? Wow! Thanks for this gem . . . very entertaining. -
I am in agreeance with batari - - something has gone awry with the video mod. TIA and other chip failures tend to render the game inoperable - - you still seem to have game, just not a good image. So, back to the soldering gun or consult with whomever modded your system for you. Some repair is needed . . . -a2a

Unfortunately, what you describe sounds like a classic bad TIA integrated circuit issue - - are you getting diagonal black-and-white or multicolored rolling bands? That's how I interpret your statement "what scrambled cables stations used to look like." . . . It that is the issue, it is salvageable - - and will be relatively easy to fix if it is an older 2600. Those have socketed integrated circuits, so you could easily swap in a new TIA. If it's a more "recent" unit, however, you will have to unsolder the integrated circuits and then solder in a new one . . . ! The problem could be in the composite video mod, too, though - - do you have any pictures? That could be helpful . . . -a2a

Well, if we're profiling, I'm also a Libra, enjoy IPA beers, and hiking ... I don't suppose "Chris" is short for "Christine" and you're a tall, athletic blonde, by chance, are you? Just kidding, all in good spirit, no trolling here! Simply enjoying the time-honored, classic AtariAge thread commenting process ... I think we've almost gotten far enough off course and it's time for some Shatner pictures, or maybe some corn ... EDIT: Just to get us started . . . "To boldly go where no Castlevania-for-$12-sale-thread has gone before . . . to explore new comments . . . "

Best. Thread. Ever. Can't stop reading! Keep 'em coming . . . turning out to be more interesting and informative about various members than I ever thought! Oh, and, uh, BUMP FOR A GREAT SELLER ! (Samuel is thrilled about the traffic his beat-up market-value NES cart is getting, I'm sure) -a2a

Why the thread-crapping? It happens all too often around here. In my opinion, it's unprofessional and impolite. We should all take the example of, for instance, NintendoAge.com's Marketplace - - a zero-tolerance on "spoiling" and thread-crapping. Very professional, and as a result, incredibly high-traffic there. He can ask whatever he wants for his cartridge. Either it will sell, or it won't, and he'll adjust his price accordingly or move on. Don't agree with a price, or don't want to buy something from someone? Click the "back" button on your browser and move on to the next thread! No need to comment on his sale. Just my two cents, not calling you two out in particular, I think you're both excellent long-time contributing members of AtariAge, but I thought I would take the opportunity to point out that *as a community*, we have become somewhat impolite! NO need to reply - - let's not dump in his for sale thread any more! PM me if you would like to have a friendly discussion ! Happy Holidays AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SALE Samuel ! -a2a

If you an afford it, it might be okay to abandon them, then, too - - looking deeper here over the last bit, it appears it might require extracting the eeprom information from the target motherboard with a reader, and then crafting a new eeprom.bin from that. Do-able, for sure, but personally there is a cost/return ratio for all this stuff that starts to become unbearable after a point . . .
-
Might not be total trash yet, though, Mark - - start searching for "xboxhdm" and how to reprogram eeprom.bin files. It requires making a bootable CD, hooking the hard drive up to a PC with a spare IDE slot, and messing with the eeprom.bin files (since you don't have the original eeprom.bin files), but appears do-able, just will take some elbow grease . . .

I have personally chopped up a handful of Dreamcasts in an effort to internalize the SD card mod, and while some of them have been aesthetically nice and perfectly functional, my personal recommendation at this point is this, instead - - eBay Auction -- Item Number: 180719286268 Way nicer, in my opinion. Now, the NEXT level is the BIOS mod so that you can flash the DreamShell OS directly to the secondary BIOS chip and then boot from it and use the SD card as a "hard disk" . . . ! One of my "piggyback" BIOS mods to a DC. Lots of folks are doing them, look it up online - - -a2a

SHIPPED: Atari 2600 Red Sea Crossing

Awesome! Hmm, I see some sort of altar in the background with candles and fabric . . . ?! Wow, I guess some sacrifices and serious incantations were needed to finalize production? Some real old school, Old Testament stuff here . . . ! -a2a -
Atari 2600 Jr Black Screen + Weird Sound - Help
atari2atari replied to nesboy43's topic in Atari 2600
The general answer to "what would cause this chip to fail" is "bit rot" - - integrated circuits go bad, sometimes due to nothing you did. That said, static electricity is a bad thing you CAN directly be the cause of. Older consoles that are not as well-shielded and protected as newer devices are particularly susceptible. Static through the joystick, static from touching a switch on the unit - - these are common ways to fry a unit. However, environmental conditions such as heat, desiccation, and/or radiation (yes, really!) can all cause an integrated circuit to suffer a few minor faults. There are LOTS of delicate pathways within an integrated circuit, and if a few get corrupted, it's a done deal. Glad you are finding a resolution, however, so best of luck in your future gaming! -a2a -
Atari 2600 Jr Black Screen + Weird Sound - Help
atari2atari replied to nesboy43's topic in Atari 2600
Unfortunately, what you describe there sounds a lot like a defective integrated circuit ("IC" or "chip"). Likely to be the TIA chip, or one of the other three. They are soldered to the circuit board on the later-model 2600 units, like the Junior, rather than socketed like on some older models, so replacement is not trivial, but not too bad if you are handy with a soldering iron. Good luck - - maybe it will resolve itself, or perhaps not be a bad IC, but do keep us posted! -a2a EDIT: see the link in my signature ("Composite Video Modded . . . ") for images of the circuit boards on Juniors and the ICs I am talking about. -
Update! ADDITIVE AUCTION - Item 3 Thursday, November 8 (almost Friday!) ADDED - PERFORMANCE brand Nintendo 64 Memory Card in case I like these because they don't ever need batteries! Some sort of flash memory that is non-volatile and does not need to use batteries Great cards! Comes with the case, useful for stashing your other cards in it, too . . . THIS ITEM NOW GOES WITH THE Adaptoid PACKAGE in the first post of the thread - - same price, just adding MORE! Wow, this package is looking LARGE, if you ask me! Not a bad deal! All that for that price . . . if I didn't already own it all, I might buy it myself! -a2a

ADDITIVE AUCTION - Item 2 Sunday, November 4 (Change your clocks back! ) ADDED - Dual Playstation and N64 USB to PC adapter Not as nice as the Adaptoid - - does not support Rumble, and has a less sensitive "translator," which means a rougher ride for the N64 controller to PC emulator Still very decent adapter, however, works just fine, AND it's blue! With LEDs! Hard to see, but there is a switch on the side between my fingers that goes back/forth between N64/Playstation (supports one or the other, not both at the same time) THIS ITEM is now added to THE Adaptoid PACKAGE in the first post - - same price, just adding MORE!

My dad is an amazing auctioneer and eBay fellow. He moves entire warehouses for a living. Car parts, instruments, antiques - - whatever needs going. "Give them something for free!" he always says. I think what he means at the core of that statement is value - - it's simple, if I don't see value in something, why should I buy it? So, in that spirit, I am starting an ADDITIVE AUCTION with this for-sale thread. We're adding value, starting now! "Uhmm, what's this ADDITIVE AUCTION that you speak of?" . . . It's simple - - - - I add something to this Adaptoid package below every few days until someone sees the value and offers to buy it. Maybe no one, maybe someone! The price stays the same, I just keep adding . . . more value. The question is, do you wait, and hope that MORE value gets added . . . . . . OR, do you see the value, and move to get the package before someone else does! Kind of a game - - someone else might be ready to go for it, and beat you to it . . . or no one may be watching, and you can keep waiting until there's as much value as you need! ADDITIVE AUCTION - Item 1 Wednesday, October 31 (Hallowe'en!) ADDED - 6-foot N64 controller extension cord The N64 controller unit has a nice long cord, but this ENSURES that you can make it to the lounge chair, and REALLY kick back! Great for making your PC a relaxing N64 gaming machine! THIS ITEM IS NOW ADDED TO THE OVERALL PACKAGE in the FIRST POST! -a2a

How to Ebay snipe? What do you use? Trust with your password?
atari2atari replied to wood_jl's topic in Auction Central
Another vote for auctionsniper.com - - it's worked flawlessly for me for years as well, and their rates are very reasonable. Only bids I have ever lost are the ones where someone else's maximum amount was more than the one I set! And that's okay . . . it's how it's supposed to be! Normal bidding rules apply, don't get crazy and set your max bid for something ludicrous... -a2a -

OMG, that's classy, and funny! Nice work! Hmm, is that the "Papyrus" typeface I see as the selected font for the title/label? How appropriate . . . Weighing the addition of box and manual now . . . it sure does look cute! -a2a
