Is this not true of a lot of systems now ?, it is a mixture of a few individuals being greedy and people outside retro gaming jumping on the band-wagon to make a quick buck out of the scene. One thing is certain though over the last few years i have noticed things do seem to be getting worse with pricing and soon i can see the retro collecting hobby being seriously effected with items simply becoming unobtainable.

Sit down, relax and play some games-you may enjoy it and you then be one of us MMWaaah Mwwwaah! No seriously sounds like you have some interesting stuff there and i am sure some members here would be interested, what about taking some pics and/or advertising it in the Market place area of the forum?

I think i just take it easy and pass a lot of time away game 11 slow-10K-shields

I agree that the focus should be with one fav system and i discovered this early on when i tried to collect for multiple systems,it did not take long for various problems to arise regarding storage space, and the ever increasing costs of retro items as any old tom dick and harry jumps on the retro trader band wagon and tries to make a profit. In the end i simply stopped chasing stuff and focused on Atari carts and arcade cabs/ boards.I am not too fussy about having to use the exact hardware to retro game and to avoid my collected hardware and software becoming faulty i simply have switched to emulation witch solves the space and cost problems all in one go.

Its a nice looking cab and i do not recall seeing one back in the day either, not quite as nice looking as Tron of course

I agree with Mxyzptlk i think you are going to have to open it and look for board numbers or any other form of id,taking a pic of the board would help too.

Yeah i love this game and it has been ported well on other systems and i think it is the best of the miniature top down racing games, I do own the arcade board and would love to get in a jamma cab but after making an adaptor for it but i have been told that Off Road may use a different type of sync than usual which would explain the problems i am seeing with it.

I see you have Jag Myst as well which is quite interesting, are there any noticeable differences or additions to the JagCD version?
-
I think that would be cool,i mean if the BBC model B can do it really well (Mr Ee!) then the 5200 could,i think there are a lot of choices and a few unusual games like Eyes by Rock-ola or perhaps a decent driving game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5Vlm-vvUTc

How many "loose" Atari 2600 duplicate do you have?
R.O.T.S replied to Unbeliever's topic in Atari 2600
I have several duplicates titles but i also collect variation in the labels for each game such as color or the copyright text in slightly different places,so not as many as it first appears.I do not mind duplicates to be honest i could seriously hoard Atari 2600 carts until i run out of living space lol. -
I have to admit i have never had a problem with smoking effected items just the odd yellowed Snes or coffee stained Amiga, also i have been quite lucky with my arcade machines which have had the odd smell of smoke or grime inside some of them but nothing that could not be wiped or cleaned with some solution, although my guardians of the hood cab was purchased from a friend who had a Thai wife and when the cabinet has been on for a while it fills the room with the scent of Thai food ,i cannot for the life of me stop it lol.

This is certainly an interesting project,i know with the homebrew scenes there may be some advances in programming techniques but is the sound any different to other atari games?,i mean can we get anything from the A2600 that represents a metalic "rrring!" when something is collected?

Which system is the most fun to develop on? Why?
R.O.T.S replied to JohnnyRockets's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
My only experience is with the Zx Spectrum which luckily for me is one of my fav computers,if the site World Of Spectum (WOS) is anything to go by it has the biggest homebrew scene i have seen with over 100 games made in 2011 but that is because there are a lot of knowledgeable people (Like Jonathan Cauldwell) and software help in the form of sound/sprite file type converstion, loading page makers, sound editors and of course the game editors themselves so even a nobody like me who wanted to be part of the homebrew scene could have a go.But learning Assembly / code does seem a long step away after you have been using a Jetset Willy and Manic Miner editor ,I would love to create something on the Atari 2600 but that is just a pipe dream at the moment. -
How come arcade companies choose to create custom arcade boards?
R.O.T.S replied to neko123's topic in Arcade and Pinball
I remember those pre-jamma days when the machine operator had to change the game by replacing the entire machine, this meant wheeling it out the arcade with a two wheeled trolley lol,as an arcade game collector the question of `why the different hardware` is one i hear quite a lot along with `why do some games have suicide batteries?` but at the end of the day i think the answer is the same for both and that is you will have to most likely send a faulty game board back to the original manufacturer to have it repaired. =£$ -
Jag had Raiden and Tempest 2000 at least the N64...?,Despite having fun with Perfect Dark and Golden Eye Multi-player the whole N64 experience was actually quite short lived for me just like the Jag,i mean after first person shooters i would play Mario 64 and Resident Evil 2 but after that i was desperate to find a real playable game on the system.I think it also released poor sequels (bastardised?) games which i saw as classic on the Snes, like Star Fox,F-Zero,Zelda,Mario Kart, etc also it had the worst graphics engine i have seen on any game system and the worst controller.

I agree it probably is the best version of that era although the Atari 2600 was pretty good considering what they had to work with. For some reason in the arcade i slightly prefer Moon Alien (Pt2) over Galaxian.

That is a good price for one in todays money either way, nothing like picking up stuff of someone who does not know or care.

Excellent Video Game Books to Read
R.O.T.S replied to mtshark7's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Ultimate History Of Video Games is the most interesting book i have probably ever have read, some of the things that used to go on in Atari lol -
Lords Of Thunder (Sega CD) Dennin (Robo) Aleste (Sega CD) Last Resort (Neogeo/MVS)
-
I do recall the vectrex being one of the more difficult versions but the robot starting positions should still be random so it is probably just poor variance.

I own a black Pacman mug with an empty maze printed on it and when you pour a hot liquid in like tea the ghosts and Pacman appear.
