building a supercart from arcade shopper PCB

IF possible, that be cool. Make this Supercart board a LOT easier to build. -
Before I develop Carpal Tunnel from these TI joysticks...
hloberg replied to PeBo's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
You can find these joysticks on ebay fairly cheap. the feel is good and the micro-switches are very responsive but they are kinda cheaply made. I had to put a shim behind one of the micro-switches because it had worked itself loose over time. Oh, I had to create an Atari to TI-99 cable to make them work. I also have some TI-99 joysticks but I'm not into masochism so they remain in on the shelf. -

Vague understanding of 'play ground' but what if that was used to load in a E/A like program in to the memory expansion? would it be a major rewrite? -

question: what is the effect of assembling the cartridge without the E/A GROM? -

Good. I'm having problems finding another E/A @ a good price to hack. -

another thought from another post of prying it out. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/232932-ea-cartgrom/?p=3136383 I'm not sure that would work on that really old E/A GROM, it was soldered in there fairly tight. The first GROM was from a beige E/A and looked rather loosely fitted. -

well, project is on hold till I get some more E/A GROMs. the first GROM, I de-soldered it but broke a pin pulling it out. (Need more Jedi patience) The second I did a rather good and quick job of de-solder but it just froze up the computer when I put it back in the holder on the E/A board to test it. It was a old GROM and didn't look too good to begin with. It was already discolored on the legs so who knows. I'm going to keep an eye on ebay for some good and cheap E/A cartridges. While I'm waiting I'm going to invest in a good quality solder station. My old Weller just ain't gonna make the grade for something like this project. An idea I had was to just cut the board from around the GROM then clean it up. The solder connections on the E/A look fairly small. -

I'd pay good money for any kind of E/A GROM, AVR based or otherwise I might single handedly drive the E/A Cartridge in to extinction. -

turned out to be a nice day today so I tried working on making the super cart. Score: Now non-working E/A cartridges 2, my de-soldering skills 0 Sigh, now I need to get two more E/A cartridges and, obviously, a lot more practice. -

Ya, for some reason she finds the smell of burning solder in the morning a bit offensive, go figure. -

Well at the expense of more kidding, my parents' 'Ranch' is only a few acres and the totality of their livestock is a bunch or rabbits that are kept in line by a very spastic Chihuahua. Now for something completely the same; the super cart. Is there a program that will make the extra memory in the super cart accessible as a drive like the mini-memory, kinda like a ram disk? And can you switch the memory banks with the computer on? -
Might explain the birds that keep flying around in my monitor.

Well, I don't plan to be senile or dead in 20 years but I might still have my TI though.

I'm actually building a supercart @ this post http://atariage.com/forums/topic/232781-building-a-supercart-from-arcade-shopper-pcb/?do=findComment&comment=3135162 I have one E/A but since the odds of me un-soldering the GROM successfully are 50/50 I could use a spare.

got some spare E/A or other cartridges?

Wife 'requested' that I take that sh move my projects to a better location than her kitchen. Our porch is enclosed so wind isn't much of a problem and here in Dallas this time of year the temperature fluctuates between 40 to 70 degrees so I just have to hit it on the right day. Weekend might be in the 60s so maybe... otherwise I will work on it at my parents ranch over the holidays where they have a very nice shop. -

got my CMOS from Mouser today! Wow, was that fast, just ordered it Sunday night. If the weather is OK (gotta solder outside on the back porch) I'll start on the construction this weekend. -

Yup on that idea. don't trust my skills on re-soldering a GROM chip. Also, thanks for the idea on how to place the switches. I got the smallest they had at Radio Shack but haven't had time to check it. We will see. -

Downloaded the instructions from MainByte for the supercart that was created using an old TI cart ; helped clarify a few things (especially best position of the switches and the LED). Also found some useful software to use with the supercart. -

searched the forum and found the CY62256NLL was equivalent CMOS and ordered two from Mouser (thanks for the tip). Should take about a week to get here. Now need to dig out a 68 ohm resistor from and old cart and a holder to put the CMOS into. -

Didn't think to check old boards. Will look for one. If I can't find one I'll take you up on your offer, thanks.
