  1.

A few years ago I experimented with using Multiplan to keep track of my home finances, and it was just too cumbersome and limited particularly in 40 columns (this predated the F18A)

Is there a 80 column version for the f18a?

And while I'm on the subject of multiplan, is there a copy that doesn't require the cartridge?

  2. Only thing makes you worthy here:

1.) You own a Ti-99/4a (or any in it's family of computers) or and emulator of said computer(s) or have and interest there of.

2.) You occasionally use it for whatever purpose you see fit.

3.) You enjoy conversing with others who also have and do 1.) and 2.)

4.) You keep a good attitude because it's just a hobby.

  3. I would like to 'get my feet wet' with the Uber or 512k cart. I'm still learning a lot of the hardware tech (I'm a software guy with just some experience in hardware) what would I need to utilize either board? Do I need a ROM burner and what about the GROM.

  4. Funny you should mention putting a speaker under the grille behind the cartridge port. That is exactly what was there on some early 99/4s--and the Solid State Software badge at the front of the cartridge port was a slider switch to control the volume. I have one of these. . .

My current long term project is getting the layout for the IDE board done again for through-hole components. I have a lot of other projects in process, most of which are just in a holding pattern until their turn in the queue for board manufacture comes up. I have the UberGROM, 512K cartridge, TI 128K Card, Protoboard, PEB Extender Board, and the Flat Cable Armadillo Interface all at various stages of test (I still have to do a run of the boards for the last two).

I thought it was odd that the speaker fit a bit too well and the plastic was curved to accommodate it. Now if I can find a good amplifier board that will fit I'll be good to go.

Very impressive list Ksarul. If you make more than one of UberGROM or 512k cart, consider me a buyer.

Actually my really, really long term project is I want to learn how to make cartridges. Whole process, from having the board cut to programming the ROM/GROM.

  5. In another topic OLD CS1 mentioned he had some long term projects in mind which got me thinking that might be an interesting subject for a new topic.

SO, what long term projects do you have in mind and how long do you think it might take you.

Me first. About 6 months ago I got started on a TI99 version of the Atari classic 'Mule'. Well, I changed jobs, then my wife got a job offer to Dallas, Texas. We moved etc... etc... who cares.

Anyway, now I have time to get back to it. I going to use Senior Falcon XBC256CF which solves almost all my previous problems; fast loading of screens, scrolling, streaming music. Think it might take me a few months.

My hardware project I have started on is installing a speaker and amplifier in the TI99. Since the F18a disables the video the only need for the video cable is for sound. I created a bracket to mount the speaker (just behind the cartridge port) and tested putting a small amp below the motherboard. Unfortunately, I shorted out the amp I scavenged from a old MP player so back to square one. This is a, when I feel like messing with it, project so who knows.

What you got in the works or just thinking about.

  6. There are five additional A/L subroutines that have been added to TML; GETPAT, GETPIX, DECHEX, GRAFIX, BITMAP. Page 28 of the manual describes how to use these. They will not fit in low memory, so they have to be located in high memory and run from there. You have to be careful, because if you type "NEW" then they are gone and will have to be reloaded. BTW, the utility HMLOADER is not restricted to TML. It can be used to embed assembly code in any XB program. Systex and similar loaders transfer the embedded code to low memory, but with HMLOADER the code runs directly from high memory. Using this makes for a tidy package which contains your XB program and the supporting A/L subs in one file. Plus it doesn't use low memory at all, so you can have additional subroutines there. Read the docs starting on page 26 to find out more about HMLOADER.

Thanks, I must have did a NEW before I test it is why they came up with errors. Still learning the ins and outs of A/L on the TI99. I will read the docs on HMLOADER, sounds interesting.

  7. Just replacing FW didn't work, the files were a different size or something. What I did change though does work with the CF7.

Not to drive you crazier, I was playing with TML 2.0 on classic99 and in the manual you have the command CALL LINK ("BITMAP") put it doesn't work. did you take out that command in later version?

  8. Very good job, except, the version of Funnel Web you use in the compiler isn't CF7+ compatible. There is a modified version of Funnel Web for the CF7+ that I put on the .zip below. I also modified your LOAD file to call it. I don't think it transfers the file name right but the Assembler does now work with the CF7+. I'm sure you can modify it right very easily, it's a bit over my head right now.

  9. creating a switch to change Joystick 1 to 2 and visa-versa would involve just making a switch for pin 2 to 7. 2 is ground for joystick A and 7 is ground for joystick B.

As for using a serial port check out mainbytes reprint of 'Joy talk is cheap'. I have considered creating this device for myself to give me a serial port. Only change I would make would pins 1 and 6 of the joystick (which are unused) the 12 volt power for the device. That is, after I make sure none of my TI-99 compatible joystick currently use those port.

  10. What the seller doesn't realize is that the market for such things is limited to a small number of folks willing to pay almost any price for TI hardware, and that once that handful of folks have distorted the market a bit, the price drops back down to normal levels and stays there for a few years.

Who are these people who buy things like $700 for a 99/8 motherboard without the chips?

  11. Cartridge holder to TI-99.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Game-Cartridge-Storage-Box-Container-For-TI-99A-Atari-Etc-/171324987003?pt=US_Video_Game_Cases_Bags&hash=item27e3c3d67b

Actually, it's just a cassette tape holder. I had one of these back in the day and it worked fairly well holding TI cartridges IF you put the cartridge in every other slot.

As for Atari cartridges like the guy claims, The Atari 800 cartridges be too small and the 2600 too big. Maybe the 5200?

  12. What we really need is the CF7+ inside of the synthesizer. That'd be the bomb. Especially the flippy access to the memory card...

Actually tried some ideas recently but the CF7+ is too big, in it's current form, to fit in the synthesizer. The IDE to CF is just a few mm too big the fit under the door of the synthesizer.
