Great Post Raiu and I agree. Except for your landfill theory. Here's why - First off, the cartridges were transported from El Paso, Texas not California. - Rumor has it the carts were deposited into two holes thus dividing them up. - Steamrollers were used to crush the carts. Compacting = more carts /cubic foot. - Snopes.com has verified this as true (For what it's worth). - I personally lived in Alamogordo during the 'operation'. It was all over the news. SjN

Excluding Pac-Man and ET, which is the worst game?
trusty replied to HP Atari King of Michigan's topic in Atari 2600
Hey I just thought of one... When I was a kid my mom bought my sister Strawberry Shortcake. That game sucked soooo bad that I would hide the thing so my sister couldn't find it. Finally (thank god) her interest in MY 2600 moved on and I was free to resume some serious pole position goodness... Gawd what a horrible game! SjN -
Not satirizing E.T per se. But rather satirizing Atari itself. Maybe it's just me but a network devoted to gaming should at least do some research on the history of video gaming, specifically console gaming and Atari's role in the birth of consoles themselves. A gaming network should give credit where credit is due. Sega, Nintendo, Sony & Microsoft owe Atari their thanks for thier successes in the console gaming market and G4 knows it. But hey, just my two cents... SjN

QIX was always a great game when Defender, Berzerk or Satan's Hollow had quarters lined up on them. SjN

You have GOT to be kidding me. I am sooooo sick and tired of seeing E.T being blasted at every opportunity. Especially from Atari fans! True, E.T wasn't one of Atari's better titles but it doesn't deserve the rap that it's been getting. The question I always ask myself is 'Could E.T have been done better using the graphics and programming capabilities at the time?' I'm going to have to go with a resounding NO on this question. I bundle E.T in with the likes of the Superman and Spider-Man titles which were basically on par with E.T. Personally, I'm not afraid to admit that I had alot of fun playing E.T. And no, I didn't have any problems getting out of the pits. As with any game, practice makes perfect. Give the little guy a break... SjN

This'll be Easy! 1. Adventure - My ALL TIME favorite game! 2. Video Pinball - For some odd reason, this game was addicting 3. Ka-Boom - Great for an adrenalin rush 4. Enduro - Love to push the limits of my VCS 5. Pitfall - What top 5 wouldn't be complete without Pitfall!! Sheeesh! After this, I'm sitting here wishing I WAS marooned on a deserted Island with my VCS! SjN

Excluding Pac-Man and ET, which is the worst game?
trusty replied to HP Atari King of Michigan's topic in Atari 2600
My vote would have to go to Riddle Of The Sphinx. While playable, does anybody know what the object of this game is???? I, for the life of me can't figure it out!! It's FRUSTRATING!! SjN -
Actually, I took offence to that X-Play episode. In my opinion, they spent way too much time Trashing the Atari 2600 and the subpar graphics capabilities it had. Webb & Sessler need to take into account that they have a very large compliment of 'younger generation' viewers who take their opinions as fact. True, by today's standards, the 2600 graphics were horrible. But back in the day? Those graphics were bleeding edge for home consoles! They need to realize that without the Atari 2600, there would be no Nintendo, no Sega, No Sony Playstation, No X-Box!! Consoles like the 2600 & Intellivision etc... blazed the path and their viewers need to realize that. On the good side, It really did spark an interest in the mysterious Landfill story. Especially since I lived in Alamogordo from 1973 - 1983! I WAS THERE! SjN

Alternate Reality: The City Competition
trusty replied to Xebec's Demise's topic in 8-bit High Score Club
Whoa! Was just surfing around and stumbled upon this port to a cartridge! I will DEFINATELY be scoring one of these! A little story about Alternate Reality- The City: I was first exposed to the insanity of Alternate Reality through my Commodore 64. Seasons passed while roaming the city. I lost all track of time. One day something curious happened. I don't know exactly how I did it, but I inserted one of the disks and the game freaked out on me. Once I restored order, I noticed I now had a pre-loaded character that I could use. His name was Mondo-Awesome!. The funny thing about using this character in game was that everywhere you went, NOBODY would want anything to do with you. If you went into an Inn, Tavern or talked to somebody on the street, you were promptly told to "Go Away, We Don't Deal With The Likes Of You!!" Has anyone ever heard of this crack in the game? I seem to be the only one thats ever encountered this! Anyway, Giant KUDOS for making this into a cart! This is truly one of those games that will forever live in my memories. Atari's Landfill Adventures, I now have the proof it's true.
trusty replied to Spud's topic in Atari 2600
Heya Spud!! I used to live in Alamogordo too! I lived there from around 1973 - 1982. Father was stations at Holloman AFB. I loved that place! I just recently found out about this Atari landfill. I'm trying to do some more research on it. I'm sure I'd know where it was if I could just get some more info... Shawn -
I'm a HUGE retro junkie. When it comes to pins, there is only one that comes to mind: D. Gottlieb's 1973 'Jumping Jack'!! It featured 4 flippers, 2 pop bumpers, 10 drop targets and 2 kickout holes. I LOVE THIS MACHINE!

WOW!! I love those types of stories. Why is it that stories like that only seem to come out of either the east or south east? I'm here in Phoenix, Arizona and cache's like that are either kept secret or just flat out do not exist! GREAT FIND!

I thought ET was GREAT! As was Raiders Of The Lost Ark and alot of the other games that have been given the moniker of "Official BAD Game". Games of yesteryear are different that games of today. There weren't THAT many as there are today. So there really wasn't a bad game perse. It was just a matter of taste. There were ALL fun! (except Strawberry Shortcake...) Now THERES a bad game!! LOL!

That is OUTSTANDING!!! It's nice to see that Nolan still remembers his fans! (hmmm- Wonder if I could get Warren Robinett to autograph my Adventure cart??)

First off I'll apologize up front if this is was posted already. I I checked back 4 pages and didn't see anything so here goes - Adventure via flash animation!! check it out: http://www.scottpehnke.com/programming/flash.htm

For a cocktail table, I like the plans off of Mikes Arcade Shop. He gets pretty detailed and has some great PDF files for downloading and/or printing the plans for a Pac-Man styled table. Check him out at: http://www.mikesarcade.com/arcade/pacct.html Document your progress! Will look forward to seeing your results!

2600 carts are fairly abundant here (Phoenix) IF you know where to look. I usually don't have a problem with finding good carts. What I seem to have trouble finding here is Sega Master System carts. For some unknown reason, they are scarce here? Just one of those mysteries of the universe I guess!!

I remember as a kid, the entire family gathering around the TV for a night of Video Pinball! It sounds pretty dull now, but back in the day.... It was a different story!!!

I still have my Epyx joysticks they were great! Gonna have to dig those out of my storage....

Does anyone have the dimensions for an Asteroids cabinet? I'm looking to build my own cabinet for use as a MAME cab and I want to use the Asteroids design as it has a fairly large control panel that can accomodate joysticks, buttons, trackball and a spinner. I was going to buy an old cabinet but for some reason I have a problem with damaging an original piece. For more info on building a cabinet check out - Kevin's website at http://members.shaw.ca/kevinu/arcade/

W O W !!!!!!!! Jim, you just lived out my dream!! I would love to come across a find like that!! Would love to see some before & after pics! GREAT FIND and great job.... Tell me, do you come across alot of tokens or quarters when cleaning out the cabinets? I'm beginning to develop quite the collection of tokens! I'm truly envious!

THE JACKPOT!! Old boxes of mine that contain most of my cartridge boxes. The boxes I see so far are: Human Cannonball Haunted House Video Pinball Fantastic Voyage Spider Fighter Pac-Man Night Driver (Tele-Games) Dodge 'Em Bowling Demons To Diamonds Star Raiders (with touchpad) Superman Street Racer Target Fun (Tele-Games) Warlords Space Invaders (Tele-Games) Space War Chopper Command I've also got a tone of catalogs (Red 1982) and these cool cardboard inserts that held the cartridge in place in the box. They have Parker Brothers stamped on them along with the games Spider-Man, GI Joe, Star Wars (tesb). What surprised me the most was a fold out catalog. It's silver and says "Your Ticket To The Atari Stars" 1983 Game Catalog. It folds out to a huge poster! 2600 games on one side and 5200 games on the other! I'm way stoked about my find!! (as you can tell!!!) I'm currently building a wing off of my website and will be posting scans of everything...!!!
