  1. Yeah, this one is actually good, and a totally different game than the PS1 version. It's basically a re-skinned Super Turbo with some extra fools thrown in. Runs slow, like you mentioned, but pretty darn authentic gameplay which is nice. You're thinking of the arcade version. The PS1 version is pretty much the same as the Saturn version.
  2. Forget composite video...S-video is where it's at.
  3. The FC-16 Go is pretty good but I would wait for the SupaBoy. The main issues with the FC-16 Go are: -hard/clicky dpad (like the ones on GBASP and original DS) -low battery life (3 hours max) -slightly washed-out screen -no original controller ports -tabs preventing SFC games from being inserted So far the SupaBoy seems to fix all those problems. One thing that the FC-16 Go excels at are the wireless RF controllers.
  4. The MSRP is $79.99 http://hyperkin.com/index.php/supaboy-portable-pocket-snes-console.html/
  5. I use my FC-16 Go during power outages when there's nothing to do.
  6. SupaBoy at E3: I have to admit, the screen and controls look a lot better than my FC-16 Go.
  7. Hahahahahahah... you're kidding, right? That's the absolute worst controller for the SNES or Genesis that I've ever touched, and I owned one for each. Puny little d-pad makes it nearly impossible to pull of fighting game moves. The dpad is pretty much exactly the same as official SNES pads.
  8. I can already see one flaw in the design. If you're playing a 2-player game on the system, wouldn't the 2nd controller's connector get in the way of your hand? Compatibility seems to be better than FC-16 Go though. Supposedly it plays SFC carts out-of-the-box and runs Super Mario RPG.
  9. The Capcom Pad Soldier is a great controller for Street Fighter and other 6-button fighting games. It looks awkward but is actually very comfortable to hold. It's good to have a controller with turbo fire for shmups. I used to have the Interact SN ProPad and it was very good. Felt pretty durable. Might get one of these again someday.
  10. For disc-based systems (PS1/2/3, Xbox, Saturn, DC, PCE CD), I only go for complete and at least very good condition (no broken cases, stickers, writing, etc). For cart-based systems (Genesis, SNES), I don't care if they're cart-only since the boxes take up too much space. I don't even care what condition the cart is in. PCE games are the only exception and I only go for complete and very good condition. The cases take up far less space than Genesis/SNES boxes.
  11. Takes original SNES controllers so that's an improvement over FC-16 Go. The design is pretty ugly though. I already have the FC-16 Go 2.1 but if the dpad is better I might consider getting this.
  12. There are only 2 games that use it's own proprietary ROM cart: The King of Fighters '95 UltraMan: Hikari no Kyojin Densetsu
  13. Not quite. It doesn't have s-video output, the ability to plug in original controllers, and compatibility with games like Mario RPG. It's a nice supplement to an existing SNES.
  14. I've owned all the portable Genesis clones and the SNES clones. I only kept the SNES clone and the Gopher since the other ones aren't good. GenMobile/Retrogen portable Genesis (pretty much the same) -Battery life pretty good -Screen quality very good, but GenMobile screen size is too small (2.4") and some units have smaller viewing angles -Compatibility very poor (inaccurate sound, some games don't even boot, graphical glitches and other problems) -Does it have a cartridge slot? yes -Can it be loaded with Roms? no, but comes with built-in games (Genesis games for GenMobile, homebrew games for Retrogen) -Build quality (especially the controls) poor (cheap flexible plastic/lightweight, terrible dpad and buttons) -Built-in rechargable battery or disposable batteries? built-in -AC adapter included? yes; wall adapter for GenMobile, usb cable for Retrogen -What other accessories are included? mono composite av-out cable, wrist-strap (GenMobile only) -Composite out? yes (mono only) -Price? $30-40 -Currently available new? yes Gopher portable Genesis (made by same company as GenMobile/Retrogen) -Battery life same as above -Screen quality same as above, but has a 2.8" screen as on the Retrogen -Compatibility a bit better than GenMobile/Retrogen (less slowdown, some games like Super Street Fighter II now work) -Does it have a cartridge slot? no (which makes it more compact -Can it be loaded with Roms? yes, supports 2GB SD card (can hold the entire Genesis rom set and more) -Build quality (especially the controls) much better than GenMobile/Retrogen; dpad/buttons is almost as good as genuine Sega controller, also better (non-flexible) plastic -Built-in rechargable battery or disposable batteries? built-in -AC adapter included? yes (usb cable) -What other accessories are included? mono composite av-out cable -Composite out? yes (mono only) -Price? $40-50 -Currently available new? yes FC-16 Go (version 2.1) portable SNES -Battery life poor (around 3 hours) -Screen quality good; not as vibrant as the Genesis clones, but screen size is much bigger (3.5"), and also flips up/down like a DS for protection -Compatibility excellent; all games play/sound as they do on a real SNES, except Super Mario RPG (which doesn't work) -Does it have a cartridge slot? yes -Can it be loaded with Roms? no -Build quality (especially the controls) excellent; especially the wireless RF controllers which are as good as real SNES controllers, and also the speakers are very loud -Built-in rechargable battery or disposable batteries? uses a Nokia cellphone battery/charger; can probably be replaced -AC adapter included? yes -What other accessories are included? 2 wireless RF controllers, stereo composite av-out cable, earbuds -Composite out? yes (stereo) -Price? $50 -Currently available new? yes I suggest you skip the Genesis clones and get the FC-16 Go, as it's the best one. Make sure to get the newest version (2.1) for the improved features. I also want to point out that even though the FC-16 Go's wireless controllers look pretty much exactly like the FC Mobile II's wireless controllers, they work much better because the FC-16 Go controllers use RF technology (same as Xbox 360 controllers) so you don't even have to point it at the system. They are truly the best 3rd party SNES controllers I've ever used. I bet if they made a version that plugs into real SNES's, they would be sold-out fast.
  15. I bought a PC Engine Duo to play Super Darius 1 & 2 and Darius Plus. It's still the only home console that has a port of the original Darius.
  16. FC-16 Go is awesome. It's pretty much the only clone worth getting. Plays identical to a real SNES (although doesn't work with Super Mario RPG), excellent RF controllers, good screen and LOUD speakers. I used to have the handheld Genesis clones (GenMobile and Retrogen), but they have horrible sound and controls and are mono only. The Gopher isn't too bad. It has better build quality, screen, and controls than the GenMobile and Retrogen. Game compatibility is better. Too bad it still has the same horrible sound. Retron 3 is meh. It tries to be three consoles but can't even get one right. So yeah those are all the clones I've had.
  17. I used to have one but sold it and hooked up my Genesis model 1 and SNES again. It's nice that it saves space, but there are many problems: -not all games are compatible: ones I've tried that don't work are Dragon Warrior (NES), Ecco Tides of Time (GEN), Virtua Racing (GEN) -NES sound and colors are a bit off -Genesis sound is off, and there is an annoying buzzing -Genesis colors were a bit washed out -Genesis side also has a weird issue where the screen slightly lightens/darkens when you press/depress a button -SNES side, Star Fox has a graphical glitches on the last level -wireless controllers are horrible: there is a delay when you rapidly mash buttons, button layout is weird on GEN/SNES, and you have to point it directly at the system
  18. I used to have the Retrogen and GenMobile. They suck. I now have the Gopher which doesn't suck as much.
  19. http://www.segastyle.com/store/ I bought a pre-modded systems from them but they are sold out now. They have a modding service for $55.
  20. If you're so worried about wearing out your Saturn, you might as well unhook it and keep it in safe storage . Personally I'd rather enjoy my games. It's not like Saturns are super rare and expensive. I even ended up with about 20 of them.
  21. You are seriously limiting your game library this way. The Saturn is the only console that has arcade-perfect ports of Xmen vs Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, as well as a version of Street Fighter Zero 3 regarded as one of the best (if not the best). In addition, there are numerous other Capcom and SNK ports that use the ram carts and make the Saturn one of the best choices for fighting game fans. I have looked at my Action Replay 4-in-4 pcb and compared it to my official memory and ram carts. They have the same thickness. I looked at my Gameshark and that one has a thicker board than the AR and official carts. There is no harm in using Action Replay 4-in-1. It is the cheapest and easiest way for any beginning Saturn gamer to get into import gaming. Also, mod chips only allow the Saturn to play backups. It does not break the region-lock. You can play backups of imports by region-patching the game before burning it. But to play genuine imports, you need an Action Replay 4-in-1 or install a region-switch on the system.
  22. I have the Gopher. It's pretty good. Good screen, good buttons. Rechargeable battery. Plays roms in the .bin format. I have every US Genesis rom plus Japanese and European exclusives on my 2GB sd card (over 1,000 roms), and there's still plenty of room left. Plays most of them fine. Some of them won't boot up or have problems.
  23. The Gopher's dpad and buttons are pretty good actually. They feel mushy like the official 6-button controllers. I agree that the Retrogen/GenMobile dpads and buttons suck though.
  24. Bump. The controller ports are mapped correctly but the wireless controllers are still the same.
  25. Not on my machine for some reason. The sounds comes through alright, but the graphics are all messed up and it’s unplayable. Here is my incompatibility list so far; WWF Super Wrestlemania SNES and SFC – unit ‘presses start’ randomly during matches and also in the character select screen – forcing you to play as Macho Man every time. Street Fighter Alpha 2 SNES – graphical problems, nothing is recognizable – just white bars I assume version 2 is the same, but once I get one I’ll retest the same carts I have had issues with here. I have version 2.1 SFA2 works fine on mine: You can see pics of mine here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-media/product-gallery/B0030GV98S/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_all
