  1. I'm sure it's fine for most people. Most HDTV's seem to handle 480p reasonably well. Unfortunately though, mine seems to do a bit of a lackluster job by default. But there's some hope there since I had the Super NT up and running earlier this afternoon set at 480p to fiddle around with some more. In just a few minutes of experimenting, the picture was looking much better.
  2. While excited by this system and liking most of what I've seen (And very much wanting to order one), I'm disappointed by 480p. While I haven't tried to fine tune my tv settings since there's no point at this time, I have tested 480p over HDMI to my television on both the Super NT and Xbox 360 to get an idea of how this system and the CARBY HDMI dongle for the GameCube might look for me with their 480p HDMI signals. The results were less than spectacular with the worst offender being the colors. Whites for instance that look perfect at 720p or 1080p suddenly look like they've been yellowed from sunlight when enabling 480p. I'm hopeful I can improve appearances by changing picture settings (Especially since composite SD sources look surprisingly good on this television, which doesn't make sense if it can't also handle 480p reasonably well). But 720p would be so much more preferable than a tv standard from 20 years ago.
  3. I see that Konami has confirmed that M2 is handling the emulation. Certainly good news to hear.
  4. If this were to ever happen, you're not going to have sites people never heard of breaking the news.
  5. For the SPC player, I found the files, but they're all in the .RSN format. Can anyone point me to a converter to make these compatible? Found a post from 2012 from Kevtris about just such a RSN to SPC 2 converter, but can't seem to locate it.
  6. Another Code Mystics developed project. Tempting, but LRG got enough out of me last week.
  7. Seven more games have been announced. https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019-07-12-konami-unveils-mini-turbografx-16-games-line-up Not all are games we're likely going to care about, but it's still nice to see. I'm especially happy to see Galaga '90.
  8. No signs so far of this enabling 32X support? And I would hope this supports the best standard definition analog standard in North America. Would be a shame if it's RGB only. Also, what's the SPC player? Is it something that will let me load up a SNES game and just cycle through its music?
  9. I believe the most recent AVS update or perhaps the one even before that, added pixel interpolation to conceal the shimmering. The results as shown by the Super NT and Mega SG are good enough that many of us just dial in the aspect ratio that we want and don't worry about getting a result that yields even scaling of pixels. I imagine the AVS yields similarly good results with their implementation of pixel interpolation, although I've yet to buy myself one. It's definitely on my wish list though.
  10. For my Atari Flashback Portable, I use a small purse that is the perfect size for it. Even has enough room for my AV cable and the charging cable. Not very manly, but it doesn't leave the house. For the consoles, most are still in their original boxes but I'm slowly getting small plastic bins and transferring them to those.
  11. Doom Classic Complete looks to now have been needlessly delisted, joining the XBLA games that disappeared a week or so ago.
  12. I got lucky thanks to having it in my cart which seems to have temporarily reserved my spot. My initial payment attempt failed but the second attempt somehow went through even though I must've been pushing 60 seconds after it went live. So one of the $30 standard edition copies is mine. Hopefully you guys can get one tonight.
  13. Was that one publicized? I hate it when they quietly just disappear. Almost missed out several games like Sega Rally Online Arcade, but have gotten lucky and happened to buy several games I wanted just weeks before quietly getting pulled. So far I've only missed out on two Data East PSP Minis that I wanted to buy and Mercury Hg for the PS3/360. Mercury particularly annoyed me as a fan of the previous PSP releases (And the PS2 and Wii games). I went to buy it months ago and saw it was gone off the Xbox and Playstation marketplaces, but GameStop still had PS3 codes. But instead of buying it then, I waited and figured I'd grab it a few weeks later. Then I completely forgot about it until about a week after Sony forced online retailers to end sales of DLC and game codes. I knew that was happening since Sony publicized the change and I even made sure to buy the delisted PSP version of Activision Anthology for my PSTV (Delisted but GameStop still was selling codes), but just forgot all about Mercury Hg. And Flojo mentioned Yaris. That one was so bad it's deleted on my 360 and I've even deleted that I ever played it from my Xbox game history. Wasn't even a good game for the achievement hunters since I bet I spent 20 minutes on it and didn't get a single one.
  14. Years ago I was quite certain I had auto renew disabled, yet the same thing happened to me with Xbox Live. Was a bit annoying since I had bought a subscription card anyways and was only a day late renewing, so I ended up resubscribing for two years instead of one. I was very happy a while later when Microsoft rolled out the ability to remove credit card information. Hasn't been a card tied to my Xbox Live account ever since. Easy enough to buy redemption codes online for credit or Xbox Live Gold, or just pick one up when I'm at brick & mortar retail store.
  15. If you're talking genuine 2600 cartridges, the scale is obviously wrong. The cartridge slot looks to be less than 1/3 the width of the base of a 2600 joystick.
  16. John Linneman of Digital Foundry Retro has released a video on these.
  17. Hope it doesn't push it past $30, but they're including some extra trinkets with it apparently. "This Friday, you can pick up this Atari Flashback Classics Deluxe Bundle for the Vita at 10am & 6pm EDT on the site. Each bundle includes a copy of the game, an Atari cart replica box, and eight collectible trading cards!" Judging by Twitter comments, it might be $45. I think that's a bit too rich for my blood when I own all three on the PS4. So I hope there's a game only option.
  18. They've restored the ability to redownload Doom and Doom 2 on the Xbox One (And I would hope that by extension it also means that a new XB1 owner that bought these off the 360 marketplace when they were still available could go out today and buy a Xbox One and still be able to access them via backwards compatibility for the first time on the newer platform). Still not sure what the point was to removing them, but most everyone that wanted to buy them has had many years now to grab the XBLA downloads, so not much harm here now that existing owners are again allowed to redownload their purchases (Shame on Microsoft for even letting Bethesda have the option of removing that ability). I'm curious if I could've deleted Doom on my 360 in recent days and redownload it from my download history (Which you couldn't do on the XB1), but didn't want to risk it.
  19. What resolution does this output to a tv? What the game ran at originally, or is it converted by the emulator to 480i? Was bored and connected it to a HDTV I'm using as a PC monitor, and was pleasantly surprised how nice my 1st run Atari Flashback Portable looked. Have weird discoloration when using it on my Trinitron and so always thought something was messed up with the tv out port on the handheld (I even tried a second video out cable back in 2016 thinking it was the cable). But it's fine here which is odd since other composite sources display perfectly normal on my CRT (including other AtGames Flashback systems). And while it's composite and you can clearly see color bleeding and such, my tv isn't murdering the signal like I was expecting and it wasn't at all unpleasant to look at. Has me considering digging out my Atari Flashback 2 that is stored away and keeping it connected to this tv full time, but that doesn't alter the resolution of each game like I'm thinking this handheld probably does. So it may not play nice with the oddball screen resolutions of 2600 games.
  20. Thanks for letting me know. Limited Run Games sends out release announcements frequently in e-mail, but hasn't yet said anything on this one. So I could've ended up missing it. Any idea if it's $25 or $30? LRG seems to have two price points for their normal Vita releases without added extras like making of videos (Although in the case of this collection, that would've been a DVD I'd actually watch). But I'm not seeing a price mentioned on their website or Facebook page yet. Going to get it either way so it doesn't really matter, but always up for saving $5.
  21. I was impressed at how well the Genesis handled Roadblasters when I tried that conversion out a few years ago. Surprisingly close to the arcade original for a home console that launched just two or three years after the arcade game appeared. Colors aren't identical and the voices are gone, but otherwise it's almost 100%.
  22. At least you ended up with the superior product even if it wasn't on your preferred platform. Even if these conversions were technically as well done as Doom Classic Complete and the XBLA games (Which it seems they're not), you ended up with a lot more classic Doom content going that route. Going off the Playstation Store product pages, Doom 1 on the PS4 includes Thy Flesh Consumed and Doom 2 includes the Master Levels. But no mention is made of the inclusion of No Rest for the Living or Final Doom here, so I'm confident Final Doom isn't here and likely No Rest for the Living also isn't.
  23. Here's an article from 2017 detailing how. Some of the details may have changed since then with dashboard updates, but I imagine the process is basically the same in 2019 (Like I said, I'm not yet a Xbox One owner). https://www.howtogeek.com/254132/how-to-remap-your-xbox-one-controllers-buttons/ PS4 also has this I discovered recently. I think I found it under a menu option called accessibility.
  24. Anyone tried Doom 3 yet? I'm curious if they got rid of the L3 nonsense for running that the BFG Edition was plagued with on the 360 and PS3 and moved it to a proper button (Or at least provide the option this time). I haven't even played it on my 360 because of that silly button mapping choice and the lack of a way to fix it. Waiting until I own a Xbox One and can temporarily remap my buttons at the OS level to fix it before doing a playthrough, thanks to the handy introduction on the XB1 of being able to map controls at the system level to let gamers fix games coded by developers too lazy to include customizable controls or at least provide a sensible default control configuration. Also kind of curious how these new Doom 1 and 2 ports perform. Not too crazy to learn that they're running in Unity, an engine that seemingly is very difficult to get consistent performance out of based off what I've played (And the frame rate troubles that some high profile Unity games like Yooka Laylee got in the gaming press). These ports shouldn't push it to any degree so hopefully they maintain their frame rate target 99.9% of the time, but I wouldn't make book on it (Doom 3 may also be in Unity, but I don't think anyone has confirmed it yet).
