Got seven FBs so far
Atariboy replied to high voltage's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I have you beat. I own an Atari Flashback 2, Flashback 2+, Flashback 3-6, the first Atari Flashback Portable, the Flashback 8 Gold, and an Atari Flashback 9 HD. I also own the Colecovision, Intellivision, and Legends Flashback systems. For other AtGames products, I own one of the early Sega systems and I also bought the Atari paddle system in their Blast line last year, so I guess AtGames has made out pretty well where I'm concerned (Other than the FB2 systems, of course). -
Dumping ROMs without consent of machine owner
Atariboy replied to Flojomojo's topic in Classic Console Discussion
They all know each other. If you want to stay on friendly terms with the others, why would you disclose that you're the one that released rom dumps? -
Dumping ROMs without consent of machine owner
Atariboy replied to Flojomojo's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Don't believe the story and suspect it's just a cover story for an owner that decided they wanted these to be released. That said, has anyone fired it up? Curious about thoughts on how the game plays. Didn't have any luck personally in tracking it down, so will wait a while and let it spread further. -

Bottom line for PS1 Classic?
Atariboy replied to atarilovesyou's topic in Classic Console Discussion
My local Wal-Mart didn't, at least for a time. Was even an excuse in the online terms and conditions for price matching on their main website that I'm sure was the loophole being used to not do it (And signs posted such as at the service desk saying they wouldn't). That said, I can't find that now on Walmart.com, so I'm curious if I again price match. -
You have to consider the source as well. That forum community is forming multiple new lynch mobs daily. Capcom was just the target for today.

Displaying / leaving a 2600 powered on for a very long time
Atariboy replied to bjbest60's topic in Atari 2600
Atari 2600's don't burn and there's no concern if you were running one on a carpet. It's an Atari 2600, not a Xbox One. I wouldn't worry about ventilation since it's not going to get hot, doesn't have a fan circulating air inside of it, doesn't have vents that I've ever noticed in the varieties that I own, etc. I believe if there's a weak spot in your plan, that frankodragon called it. -

Is there a way to make it use samples? The more "accurate" emulation of the voices is absolutely awful sounding now. If not, does anyone happen to know off hand the newest version of MAME that I can grab to play it with voice samples?

I was looking forward to seeing the final game list, thinking when I saw AvP in the teaser video that Capcom was emulating games that they hadn't done before and that hopefully it would migrate to consoles in time. But this is just an open source emulator they downloaded off the internet, isn't it? If they ever were to bring 1944: The Loop Master to console, count me in. But I think this is something I can live without here.

I don't believe Genesis Plus GX has any 32X support. Virtua Racing doesn't run well on the Legends Flashback, which is the one serious issue I saw with Genesis emulation on the system. I assume the hardware just doesn't have the horsepower needed rather than it being an emulator issue. There are of course some games with off audio though, as demonstrated by various YouTube videos (I believe Aladdin is one such example). But I've personally yet to encounter anything in the games I've tested, so I believe it runs most Genesis games very well. It's not a bad way to enjoy some Genesis games while I wait to get a Mega SG, and afterwards it will become a dedicated Sega CD system with a few dozen arcade games alongside it (Been slowly working to eliminate track-ball games, games with missing audio, games with bad audio lag, games that crash, and so on from the MAME roms that I have on it).

I think our chain is being yanked at this point.

Super Powerpak is compatible. I don't own a Super Powerpak so I'm not familiar with your error, but I do know that you're supposed to check the box labeled "use launch system timing" under the Super NT's hardware menu. I'd go double check that before proceeding since I suspect it's likely your issue if the same roms work fine on original hardware.

I haven't played many Genesis games on the related Legends Flashback with the same emulator (Mostly just a lot of Roadblasters, which seems to run perfect), but it also seems to run Sega CD games nearly perfectly. I've played through the Sega CD releases of Ecco the Dolphin, Prince of Persia, Wing Commander, and Jungle Strike (Via the Strike Trilogy prototype that was discovered a few years ago) with no issues this year. I assume the same performance can be had with the 2018 iteration of the Sega Flashback HD, since other than a change of name and a missing cartridge port, it's the same system under the skin with the same Genesis Plus GX emulator.

Bottom line for PS1 Classic?
Atariboy replied to atarilovesyou's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Sticking firm to $58 locally here at Wal-Mart, which is the only place in town for videogame hardware. It surprises me since I figured when I bought mine a few months ago that it would soon be slashed even further. Not as good as some of these online prices obviously, but it still felt like a solid deal for two nice USB controllers and a machine that can be easily hacked to play hundreds of PS1 iso's. I haven't spent much time with mine so far (Basically just three hours or so of Ridge Racer Type 4 before my Super NT drew me back to it), but like the controllers and feel of the system. I did notice that it seems very picky about power requirements. I first tried powering it by my PC since I was hooking it up to a HDTV within easy reach of it, but no luck. Then I tried a USB port on my HDTV and still no action. Finally had to get a SNES Classic power supply and plug the cable into that to get it work (Probably didn't even need to swap USB cables, but didn't think to check the style of plug on them until after it was all setup). Was starting to think that I had a dud and foolish me had waited several months after buying it to test fire it. Anyone know the specifications for this so I can get a dedicated USB power adapter for it? Didn't notice it in the manual anywhere before I boxed it back up. -
SRAM isn't used in the manner you've described, CZroe. And like I've already said, it only writes to the SD card with the jailbroken software when you've exited your game after manually saving it. So not only does it not apply for the majority of SNES games, but it also virtually never will apply for the Mega SG. All you have to do is not shut down the system at the split second you've returned to the system menu from a save capable game. Seen no evidence of this myself of the system going through some shutdown procedure and even if it did, I really doubt it's taking into account that's going on with the SNES core at that particular moment in time (Or Genesis core) by delaying the procedure until some process has concluded.
-
The jailbroken software, cartridges with onboard saves, or an Everdrive will only be writing something when you've saved your game. It's as easy to avoid with how he's doing it as it is with the physical power button. There's no protection built into the system's firmware to prevent you from hitting the power button at the wrong time. You just don't do it at the wrong moment such as at the split second you've exited back to the system menu in a game with onboard save capabilities that you're playing via the SD card. Same with how he's cutting power when switching to another HDMI port or turning his tv off.

The system doesn't care where it's getting powered from, as long as it meets specifications.

AtGames 2019 speculation thread
Atariboy replied to Tanooki's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I'd love to see the Legends Flashback improved. Hope that's on the radar for the future, even if it doesn't happen in 2019. Very nice little machine. Has its issues ranging from build quality (The spring in my spring loaded SD slot was defective out of the box, for instance), a quirk on my machine at power up that often loads a game immediately on its own, and not properly opening up the SD slot for full use by the community (Mostly taken care of thanks to a talented individual around here, but there are things we can't do like displaying vertical arcade games properly that I assume AtGames could've provided had they followed through fully). But it has pleased and surprised me more often than not. My classic arcade interest is primarily centered around the early 1980's and this earlier version of MAME and the Legends Flashback play most of those games I've thrown at it beautifully. Most of my hiccups other than with most Exidy games like Mouse Trap and Pepper II not working right are with the lack of audio in the majority of the black & white arcade games (I assume it's due to the age of this build of MAME, rather than the system or my HDTV), and newer games like Cisco Heat and Salamander often not working properly such as having major audio issues (Although plenty like UN Squadron work just great). -
This surprised me so I did a search. That makes it sound like there was always a 4 switch limit for DVD's and that Blu-Ray's were always region locked. My PS4 has been unhooked the past few weeks. Looking forward to testing this out offline with some PAL Blu-Ray's I can't presently play, before biting the bullet and taking it back online.

Retro-Bit Super Retrocade with Capcom, Data East games
Atariboy replied to Flojomojo's topic in Dedicated Systems
Some people mistake that as implying Nintendo has some sort of ownership or control, when in fact these are Capcom properties and so forth that the owners are free to license out or rerelease themselves. All it's basically saying is Nintendo has approved your release and is allowing you to publish it on their system in exchange for a slice of the pie. You're not giving up future rights to your property when that "Licensed by Nintendo" line shows up. -
Not sure how the system would identify what cartridge is inserted. Wouldn't it have to dump the contents and run a checksum and compare to a database? If I'm correct, I can't imagine anyone wanting that compared to just running the cartridge directly with no delay. Some per game settings for roms being ran off SD card seems much more practical, although I'm unclear on the need here for such varying settings for Genesis cartridges. As for Super Game Boy, I believe several of us are hoping for an easy Super Game Boy setting to be implemented that only takes a moment to check each time we use the accessory. The best video settings for the Super Game Boy aren't the same as what you want for running actual SNES software and the way it's setup now, it's a pain to manually change video settings whenever you switch back and forth between SNES games and the Super Game Boy. It would be an obvious addition if Kevtris ever implements that to have it enable the cartridge audio at the same time whenever SGB video mode is enabled by the user on the SNT's main menu (And disable it when returning to SNES mode).
