  1. .... that's one of the best things about modded Xboxs.... password protection....

You don't need an modded xbox for that. By default they come with Parental Rating Control options. One for movies & one for games. It works. Albeit the password is only 4 digits, and made up of a limited number of directions and/or button presses so it could be guessable given enough unsupervised time.

Also, however you set the built-in parental control, the settings remain active under alternate bioses & dash boards. ;)

(Edit: I need to test this with a "backed up" copy of a game to see if this still works. Don know if the rating is a function of the media or the default.xbe file.)

  2. I too am annoyed with all the left-handed stuff.  I want my dominant hand to be controlling the little character on screen.

I have to agree with that. How did the left handed perspective on joysticks ever take over in the first place?

    Uh.. :ponder: :? |icon_innocent.gif

Sorry, my fault. My anti-leftyisim took over at the disipointment at seeing yet another arcade stick I can't use.

Any who. The USB Atari stick looks look.

Got me thinking about maybe getting a cheap usb joypad, and turning it into an ataptor to plug a regular unmodified atari/cbm stick into.

  3. What are the details of the NTSC revision?  More importantly, does it affect our games?   :)

No details. Thats part of the sad thing.

Hours & hours of boring dribble between the fcc & manufacturers. Mostly regarding pre-talk of what issue currently need to be addressed regarding making digitial ready tv/vcr's.

Basicly, to this day they are still arguing over how to make sat tv & cable not require a seperate box.

Blurbs about future prospect of digitial broadcast tv. More on the V-chip.

    Mfr: We have this.

FCC: We want it to beable to do this.

Mfr: It can't do that. It can do this tho.

FCC: Can't you make it do that and this too.

Mfr: We'll need a few years to look into.

FCC: We'll defer this till hell frezzes over then.

Mfr: In the mean time we can still go ahead with what we got and create half a dozen incompatable standards, right.

FCC: Huh, what?. Standards something. Yeah, sure, whatever.

    Our government at work.

  4. Shielded or unshileded speakers will not cause fuzziness and/or static.

Sheilded refers to magnetic sheilding of the permenent magnet in the voice coil assemply to prevent color shifting and convergance issues that a non-shielded speaker will cause.

The fuzziness is likely being caused by RF from the mp3/cd playing computer. All my C-128's can cause herringbone interference even on cable tv. And I can't use my Bearcat 800XLT scanner with my PC on because it washes out a lot of the spectrum. It's fun to listen to the computer thou via RF. Kinda reminded me of Atari's I/O beep noise. :)

    Also, while I'm here...

To quote Grandpa from The Munsters at some Howard Stern rally....

    "F--k the FCC, f--k 'em, f--k 'em".

They really have no clue as to what they are doing most of the time it seems. I felt like crying watching CSpan when they were covering the NTSC standards revision discussions.

  5. I have a question about how the quote feature works.

In the desktop thread, I posted a pic, and in retrospec, want to relocate the image to a subfolder of my site. However, someone quoted my message and included the linked image.

If I edit my original responce to change the link to another location, and I delete the file from the original first location, will the quoted message automaticly import the change and still show the pic, or would it hold the original link and show a little red 'X'?

  6. Oral sex is still illegal in many American states including San Francisco, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Tennessee, Missouri and Virginia.  In Arkansas oral sex is classed as sodomy, in North Carolina it is legally outlawed as a crime against nature.  But you're worst off in Virginia where it's classed as a 'misdemeanour' punishable by one year in jail and $2,500 fine.

I didn't know San Francisco was a State, always thought it was a city myself. :)

  7. It's spelled Taito, but it's pronounced:

    Throatwarbler Mangrove

    You're a silly man. :P

True, but I stole that one from Monty Python.

(The TV show (Flying Circus), not the movies.)

    :-)

    Ooo, ooo!

Mouse xylophone! They never show that one much thou. :( (Thud, Squeek. Thud thud, Squeek squeek!) Hahaha.

    And, I pronounce it Tah-I-toe.

  8. It's never bothered me to see someone end an auction early because a side offer was made that the seller is happy with.

However, if someone got to a seller after I bought something to offer more money and the seller accepted, I'd block that seller's ID, report him to Ebay for fraud, since it's technically stealing to do this once something is bought by someone else already,

there are various degrees of "technically stealing". for example each one of these scenarios represent what could be considered a legally binding contract which if broken, involves stealing from some party:

    1) seller lists an item on ebay, entering into a contract with ebay (agreeing not to end the auction early to sell outside ebay) to follow ebay policies and to pay final auction fees to ebay. if seller ends the auction early, he is stealing from ebay.

    2) bidder places a bid on an item, entering into a contract with the seller (and ebay) to purchase the item at that price if it is the high bid. if the seller cancels that bid in order to cancel the auction to sell outside ebay to someone else, they are stealing from the bidder and ebay.

    3) auction ends resulting in a contract between seller and high bidder. if the seller turns around and sells the item to someone else, they are stealing from the high bidder.

    4) seller ends an auction early and says he will sell the item to someone (not sure how legally binding an email acceptance is compared to a verbal contract). then he receives a better offer from someone else and takes it. they are again stealing from the person with the original agreement.

you could look at each one of those scenarios being played out at a flea market. there is a merchant with an item and multiple buyers are interested in the item. the one that bargains the most effectively takes it home. or if one guy says "i'll give you $50 for that widget, let me go to the teller and get some cash" and the merchant says ok... but somebody else standing by sees the first guy leave and says "here i'll give you $75 right now"

i doubt any of this would ever end up in a court of law. so it really comes down to what wolfman said... personal ethics, what you feel good about.

well, i guess there is also the court of public opinion. if someone on AA managed to acquire this out of control that povlok1 won, i doubt they would brag about it here.

Quite honestly, the only one I could possibly see as being valid is #3.

Real world: Until a deal is final and money has changed hands, the seller doesn't owe anyone jack.

As for the situtation presented at the start of this thread, I have issue if the guy did sell it to someone else. But for only one reason. The guy lied about the status of the item after the fact to get out of a finalized and completed sale. That is fraud, regardless if monies were refunded.

Beyond that, I seriously think at least half (if not more) of the bitching about getting screwed on e-bay that I've seen is nothing but a case of spoiled cry-babies with sour grapes. Just because you want something and have money doesn't automaticly entitle you to have it. (Not refering to this thread, but regarding a crap load of others tho.)

  9. I have seen this oddity ONCE on another web bbs last year.

It seemed like the page didn't completely load for some reason, and as a result never "resized to fit" because it was still waiting for data. So I saw several posts all one line high, scrolling off the right side of the screen seemingly forever.

Hit reload, and and it was fine.

  10. A few years back, the original GTA was edited of some of the more explicit sexual situations that the PSx version had when it was released on other platforms.

And lets not forget way back when Sega CD's Night Trap was released, which was edited and re-released after only a few months because of the graphic violence.

Haitians are one of numerous gangs in the criminal underworld. Along with black, white, jamacian, korean, chinesse, etc.. Hence why they are in Vice City. Along with black, white........ etc.

    DUH!! :!:

Political Correctness is a crock. It's nothing more then a violation of the 1st Amendment. Instead of simply not listening if you hear me say something you don't like, take away my right to say what I think instead. Just because you can make a politicial or racial issue out of something doesn't mean any such issue really exists.

Just because a black guy is playing a criminal on a TV show doesn't mean he's being stereotyped. And if anyone doesn't like what I say? Tough s--t and go suck a d--k! (I don't recall twisting anyone's arm to listen to me or read my words!)

People need to get over themselfs and quit reading more into things then is really there.

  11. The 1541 is the same every time. This problem started when I began using this drive BTW.

    Well, there you go. :|

Sack-c0s mentioned how 1541's are prone to blown 6522's. Thats the chip that handles it's I/O.

Have you noticed if there were any oddities with the 1541 when the c64 goes into it's messed up condition. Like is the activity light on when it shouldn't be, or do you notice any strange head tracking taking place?

Any chance you can get your hands on another 1541 to try?

  12. Killed another C64 console tonight. Worked fine for a while. Plugged the 1541 in and the console died after about 10 minutes. This time it was in a completely different outlet.

Question. Have you been connecting this same 1541 drive to all these C-64's?

Second question. How true is the power in your house. With regards mostly to phase & cycles. C-64's are very picky with their timing, and need a fairly true 60hz voltage, as it uses the 9vac output of the power supply to provide system critical timing (clock via the sid if I remember correctly (don't have a schematic handy)).

A missing or flaky AC side of things will make a C64 fail in every way imaginable. C-128 too.

(Edit: 50hz voltage if you talking a PAL version.)

  13. I'm using an Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440. 64megs, 8xAGP. It's the best card I've personaly ever owned & used (which goes to show you what kind of crappy video card's I've ended up being stuck with over the years.)

Lets talk about my other computer, that to this day still has a generic Cirrus Logic 5422 1meg 2D ISA SVGA card in it. :)

  14. Looks like if I get an Xbox I am going to have some serious online reading to do.

So if you log on to Xbox live with a MOD chip turned on, what is the worst that can happen.  They ban you and you cant play games online?  So if you are not really interested in the online gaming portion of it you might as well MOD away?

Google search for "Xbox hacking" and you'll find half a dozen different web forums with everything you need to know. Dont expect to find a single thread with all the exact details in it of course. You pretty much needs to piece together little bits & pieces of info yourself.

Yes, the worse thing that will happen if you connect to xbox live with a mod on is you'll get banned and can't play on-line through their service. If you don't use Xbox live, it's a non-issue.

This leads towards: Xbox gaming over a PC network. There are servers for the PC that can network games that support the system link cable. I played Halo over that a few times. Plays ok. No MS checks or verifications.

Can always unban an xbox too by reprogramming the eeprom. Assuming you can find a good eeprom dump somewhere that hasn't already been banned.

  15. All of those instances you are talking about can happen but most likely only by a newbie or someone who doesn't think.

I am willing to bet every single one of the posts regarding getting banned with the chip off are 100% false. Until I see it myself, until that becomes the greater chance of happening, or until I see it posted by someone with more than 20 posts, it is all BS.

Everyone should know the Live Aware walk-arounds by now. If not, they should be banned for doing no homework. Same with flashing the TSOP.

Agree 100%. I'm also inclined to also believe all those chip-off bans were BS. I just don't want to be the one to say "100%" one way or the other. It 's concepturaly possible, if nothing else. Last thing I need is to give some advice, then later someone is blaming me for getting banned, because as it turned out, the rumors were true afterall. No thanks, I've got enough stress. :)

Remember boys & girls, install EvoX 3921 on F:. ;)

  16. How anyone could ever say that Wild Metal is one of their favorite DC games without cracking up and saying "just kidding!" is beyond me........ :ponder:

Yeah, I know... I'm probably one of only a handful of people that actually like this game... but every time I try it, I end up getting sucked into it and play the entire game the entire way through. I've probably beaten the game about 5 times by now.

I love tank games, and Wild Metal is the best tank game I've ever played. I really want to try Red Dog though.

    --Zero

    I like it too! :)

    As for the top 20 list. I don't have 20, but some of my favs are;

    D2

    Shenume
