I read that they do indeed work and was also told this at the store i bought it. I cant test this as i only have a different region (ntsc) gun from a DC. I may try and run PAL 60 and see what happens.Grrrr, I wish I knew for sure. Thats pretty much the main reason I'm interested in this, so I can use my DC or Sat lightgun with it.
I'll probably just end up buying it and find out for myself.

-
My DC gun wont work' date=' It is an NTSC/JAP gun though and wont work on pal DC's either. The guy at the store says they do work though (same region equipment)[/quote']
Ok, I just read the FAQ for thing thing, and found out it does NOT support Lightguns, Mice, Keyboards or Dancepads.
Oddly, it DOES support fishing controllers.

Yeah' date=' but rumour is that the new update will still detect this. Also I have heard from a lot of people on their second account due to forgetting to switch. [/quote']Forgetting the switch. Yes, all to easy. But I question if the new updates can really detect a mod with the switch enabled. Maybe if you're using a real add-on modchip, since there are ways to see both add-on & factory roms together. But if you do a TSOP flash, I wouldn't see how. Like if you have an older xbox with a 1meg tsop chip, and you only flash half of it. With the full A19 switch, you're can totaly bank out your reflashed half, and any attempt to read it would just roll back across the half it can see. IE, banks 2 & 3 = 0 & 1. Thats how the newer v1.3 xbox's work with the 256k tsop chips. They are relying on the standard default bank handling.
I would foresee compatbility issues between xbox versions if they have something that could read beyond hard-wired bank-selection.
A new Xbox should be quite cheap around Xmas time. I've no idea what it cost to chip one though. If you are technicaly inclined, you can do it for free. Well, 20 bucks for "007: Agent Under Fire" game (if you don't already have it). I doubt I would be allowed to go into much detail here.
Hint: "TSOP Flashing".
Don't forget about pawn-shops & stuff. You can get tested working used xbox's for $120 easy.

I was just curious' date=' it's no good to me as my Xbox isn't modded - for Xbox live reasons.[/quote']All you need to do is install a disable switch when you do the mod, and then you won't have any xbox live issues.

-
Yeah. I hate the Xbox for that. I've seen websites that talk about & show screen shots of home-brewed games, but no downloads, because they are all made with XDK.
(Too lasy to find a smiley that stomps around a few times then bursts into flames, so just try to visualize it!)I want Pong & XMarbles more then anything else. Mostly just to test these PC based Xbox emus.

Well ive bitten the bullet and gone out to buy this (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=53&products_id=1892& )as advised buy CPUWIZ. It has made such a huge difference i could shoot myself for selling halo! Amazingly a store stocks these only walking distance from home' date=' cost $50 though. Im gonna get the gamecube version tomorrow.Trust me, if u have girly like teeny hands like me the xbox controllers hurt after a short period of time.[/quote']
Whoa. Thats nice. PS/DC/Sat controllers.
Let me ask, will that work with the DC or Sat lightguns too??? Boy I hope!!!!

I don't mind about the camera too much. I do aggree you have to spend a lot of time moving the thing around to see what you are doing, but I've played enough games with movable camera's to be used to it.
My gripe is the overall visual apperance of the game. Very washed out, like the contrast is too high. THAT bothers the hell out of me. It's such a pretty game, but you can see that some of the detail is lost because of it.
I've yet to see any game that really shows off the GC. Even Luigi's Mansion had it's share of annoyances. Color banding. What, the GC isn't 24bit color? It can't do smooth color transitions? Grrrrr.
-
I don't care for the S controller much. It's a little too small. If you simply grab it, and hold it in a way where it's nice and solid in your hand's, you can't reach the buttons or d-pad very well. They all end up being under the kuckle instead of the fingertip.
The Black/white buttons. Damn near under your palm. Gotta half let go of the controller and shift your hand to beable to use them. Also, the rumble effect isn't any where near as strong as the original controller.
IMHO, the original big honkin brick of a controller is the best.
-
Right.
Jpegs should pretty much only be used with 24bit color image sources.
Do you still have the original 24bit color BMP? Try converting that to Jpeg using a quality setting of 70% or so. The file should end up being around 50-60k or so and look just as good.

A: Simply FTP your emu's and roms to your Xbox's HD and play from there. I also believe it's possible to play them from a CD-RW but why would you want to have to get up and change discs when you change games.
Well, the Xbox HD is pretty small. 8gigs across 5 partitions. While this might not be a problem for smaller emu's & rom sets (like Atari-X 2600 emu), it can quickly become an issue with N64 emus & stuff. Unless you upgrade your HD, which creates it's own set of problems.
Thou I don't see the big deal with swapping discs. You gotta do that with originals now anyways. So myself, I just burn everything to DVD. If it's small, I make a menued-disc out of it, and put several emus & stuff together on one.
Wish there was a memory upgrade for the xbox. 64megs ain't enought for some roms.

I reduce the image colors to 256 to keep the image size small.Any comment / suggestions ?
I have a comment.

Use JPeG instead. Would have been about 7-8x smaller then that BMP, and kept all the color to boot.

The original C64/128 monitor works great too, I use to have it, it has composite video in the front and S-video (again via two RCA jacks) in the back...I for get the number on that monitor though...15XX I think...1702. That was the workhorse of the Commodore composite monitors. Indestructable commodore-tan square box. Front & rear jacks. Hard to find people selling them. (A local pawn shop has 3 and refused to sell me any at any price because they use them for testing video equipment).
The 15xx series monitors came later, and were fairly low quality.
1084 is one of the better monitors. And the 1084S (stereo) is a dream. I loved my 1084S till the flyback went out.

The original 1902 is good too. The 1902A is a piece of crap thou (all 1902A's (magnavox made) are prone to failed solder joints on the flyback & convergance issues).

Artlover, maybe someday you will get ripped off and maybe you will feel different. Then we can call you stupid. If I get taken because of my own stupidty, then by all means, feel free to do so.
I'll even start. I was stupid and spend $15.00 on a InterAct memory card + for the Sega Saturn without researching it first, and got stuck with a piece of crap that doesn't even work with my unit. Then had to go out and spend another $30 for an action replay. And I feel stupid every time I look at the thing.
I agree that you can cut down the risk of getting scammed if you are informed, but there is a difference between uninformed and stupid.
Yes, there is. If anything that one line there pretty much reinforces my point, "STUPID" people get what they deserve.
Anyone that would have fallen for this auction are not simply uninformed. They are "don't even have 2 brain cells to rub together" STUPID!
Did all the people here on Atari Age who purchased items from jahfish and pooyan DESERVE to be ripped off?Bad example. Known users, selling known products. No reason to suspect it's not legimiate. It's not like they were selling "make your own 24k gold from dirt with this magic box, only $199.99".
Second, you don't necessarily need to be "stupid" to get ripped off. Everybody who gets "taken" does NOT necessarily DESERVE it.Never said they did. It's easy enought for anyone to get taken, even with being carefull.
However, stupid people who get taken on account of their stupidty are another matter altogether. - "For sale: free issue of auto-trader magazine. Asking $29.95 + 4.99 shipping." If you buy that, you're an idiot.
When a little old lady gets her purse snatched, does she DESERVE it?
Another bad example.
No, if her purse is snatched as she's minding her own business, she does not deserve it.
If the purse snatcher just walked up to her and asked nicely and non treatningly if he may hold her purse for a few minutes and she haipply turned it over. Then yeah, she does deserves it.
If the purse snatcher sent her a letter demanding money, and she sent him some, then yeah, she does deserve it.
If the purse snatcher put up a web site "virtual purse snatches", and the lady was browsing around and got a pop-up, "you've been virtualy pursed snatched. Put your credit-card information in the fields below", and she did, then hell yeah, absolutly she deserves it.
BTW: I don't recall all this outcry over the Ghost in a Jar auction. Even thou that was obviously fake and thus fraud just the same. Guess because that was kinda cute & funny, that makes it ok or something?

-
Why does everyone have such a problem with people that do stuff like this?
My attitude is that is people are stupid enought to buy it, then more power to him. Great way to make a quick buck.
I've got no sympathy for stupid people. Let them get taken, they deserve it. Maybe it will encourage them to not be stupid.

I've only got 3 games myself.

1 - Wolfenstien 3d
2 - Checkered Flag
3 - Cybermorph
And while Checkered Flag might not really be better then Cybermorph, I like racing games more then flying games, so there you go.

Mostly, this thread is inspired by MagicEngine, but a few others qualify as well.
Who here has a problem paying for an emulator?
What is the real point of emulation? Obviously emulating whatever system is is. But more over it's for preservation. To allow someone who never saw/used a system to be able to do so. To keep the knowledge of the systems around. You don't do that by severaly limiting who can have/use your product.
Who is going to pay for an emulator when chances are there are several good FREE ones already avaialble. What are they doing any different then anyone else? What makes them so special that they think they can turn their back on the scene.
Ultimatly, it's their product and they can do whatever they what. No one really has the right to expect free software. But I question the validity of the products as they contribute little to the emulation scene on a whole. I for one refuse to pay for any emulator. I simply wont use it if thats the case. In the end their hard work gets lost & forgotten, while I'm happily emulating along.

Any chance of adding an option to allow users to manualy set their last-visit date. Or maybe this is something that will be in the news software?
Any who. I for one really hate it when I've got like 5 pages of new messages, then one way or another my browser exits, then I gotta spend the next 2 hours looking at every forum individualy. Well, to be honest, I don't spend 2 hours. I usualy just don't bother, and end up missing a lot of stuff.

Atari 800xl: 512k ram, Pokey/Gumby, UltraSpeed OS.
Commodore 128: 64k VDC, StereoSid.
Commodore 1700 REU: 2meg ram
Sega Saturn: Mod chipped.
2 Xbox's: Flashed TSOP, A19 bios select switch, Flash enable switch, Fan-speed control.

Kinda makes me think of Slimey's Mine & Pogo Joe.
-
Oh, and to answer the question....
I have problems with the controllers for both reasons, but on a whole, their reliability is my biggest gripe. Sucky control is better then none at all.

-
Yeah, but on the other hand, they are great (when working) for open-field games like Centipede & Missile Command.

Then again, the thrift stores you mentioned are trying to raise money for charity, not for a pawn shop owner who is most likely one step removed from a fence.Well, I used to work for a well known thrift store for awhile, and let me respond to that by saying...
Hahahahahahahaha! Uhhem, em...
It's a nice thought, and SOME of the money made actually does filter down to people who need it.
For example. One of the big thrift's (one that prides itself on how it trains & employs disabled/retarded people. Yes, they do. The entire janitorial staff is nearly all retarded people. There are also retarded and disabled people working at sewing machines in un-airconditioned warehouse areas sewing up used ripped clothing to be resold. Others repairing bins & cages used by the plant & stores. All making a whopping 50 cents a day. The finance director totaly ignored the low wage amount by reinforcing the fact that these people were just happy to have a job at all since most places won't hire them because of their issues. In other words, it ok to use these people as underpaid slave labor in litteral sweatshop conditions because they don't have choice.
Small amounts of money also get donated to the county & city and stuff. But an overwhelming amount doesn't. Extra money goes to more practical things like buying brand new trucks for the executives, even when they were in the red.
Also, and good50-75% of all donated goods (working or not) simply get thrown out as soon as the donator pulls away. Reasons vary from everything between having too much of it, to simply not wanting to have to be bothed in dealing with something.
Charity is purely secondary to their primary goal of making as much free money as they can.
Unfortunatly, all the big chain thrift stores are like this.
-
I dunno, I don't think pawn shops are really any worse then thrift stores. Actually, quite the contrary.
Thrift stores, like Goodwill and Salvation Army won't let you haggle over the price most of the time. Most pawn shops I've been to are more then happy to flexable.
Also, in a pawn shop, half the inventory isn't used clothes like in the thrift stores.

I'd like to see Neuromancer for the Commodore 64 to be remade.
Awesome as hell game. I still play it using Vice now & then.
