  1. When you were moving, you clicked on the gun platform. This has the first available selected unit garrison the object.

I'm almost 101% sure I didn't. It seems liked this one guy took it apon himself to do it on his own because he was near it or something. That's the thing, I always have everyone selected, and it was one person. Just so happened to be the one of two characters that both have to reach the evac zone.

I haven't seen this at all.

I saw it in both level 3 and 4. Maybe an oddball random glitch that only makes it self known sometimes under certain circumstances like happens in other games (Fallout 3 for example)?

Incidentally, what difficulty were you playing on that all your forces and leaders got slaughtered in mission 3?

Whatever the default is. I never bothered to look or change it. Anywho, the reason everyone got slaughtered is because of that one stupid guy. As I said, I made it to the evac zone, but didn't know he was still back by the bridge. So I figured I just had to wait for the rescue to come, and stood there and keep fighting as wave after wave kept comming. Wasn't till everyone was dead that I finally figured out the fool was still inside the base. It was impossible to get him, single handedly to the evac zone by that point.

  2. If you want to defatify yourself, buy Knothole Island, they have some potions for that. And a few hours of quests. The value for that is... ok.

Nope, don't want to defatify myself. I wanna be fat.

Tho I do understand that with the Knothole Island add-on, there is a way to revive dead characters, including your dog. After I finished the first time and lost my doggy to the choice I made, I was on the verge of signing back into live and letting my 360 be updated to that horrible NXE just so I could buy it and get my dog back. But then I came to my senses and just started over with a new game. :P

You can save at any time, and you can save before your final choice, and go back and get achievements for all three endings.

You can save at any time, true, but it's still only that one save, so once auto-save kicks in, you lost your previous save point. I know about that trick, but honestly, it's not about unlocking achievements for me. Not my thing, I play to play. I just wanted to go back and change it when I lost my dog, and by then the trick wouldn't work because it already auto-saved apon going back to Albion. Tho the money trick is handy.

  3. I would assume that the system you play the most is your favorite system, but hey it becomes semantics.

Here's a short list (top 3) for me:

    Most Played:

    360

    Xbox

    PS2

    Most Favorite:

    Xbox

    Dreamcast

    NES

When the 2600 or NES or something gets Fallout 3 and Mass Effect, then I'll go ahead and bump them up to most played.

Anywho, you can assume whatever you want, but it's still just an assumption. And you know what they say about assuming...

    Might also want to read:

  4. Then we have this:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/507...layStation.html

Father killed partner who became hooked on Sony PlayStation

A father stabbed his partner to death after she threw him out of their bedroom so she could spend the nights playing on a Sony PlayStation console.

Mind you, the "truth" and the sensationalised headline are different. Tho the lawyers are still asshats and trying to make the PS2 out to be the underlying cause of all the problems.

  5. I like the "does not dissolve most plastics" part! :rolling:

If we're talking Atari plastic, I believe that. Not so much with CBM plastic.

Long time ago, me and a friend were cleaning up some old 800's that had sharpie marker on them. The old style with the thick rough plastic. Used Goof-Off. Cleaned them up great. No effort at all, and no problems.

So then I'm like, hey, I've got this old 1541 drive with sharpie marker on it. Old style with the thick rough plastic. I start rubbing, and it's taking it off, not as good as on the Atari's, but it's taking it off, so I keep rubbing a little more. Rub, rub, rub, frup. Rag is stuck to the case. Peel it off leaving behind melted plastic with hundreds of little balls of cotton fibers stuck in it. After some scraping with a razor blade and sanding, it came out quit hideous. :(

  6. Don't under estimate glue sticks, as other mentioned.

Back in 1988, I made my own box for my loose 5200 Pac-Man cart. I made it from the cardboard stock taken from the backs of notepads, and used glue sticks. To this day, it's still intact.

  7. Why does everyone have a problem with the cord comming out the bottom. I see nothing wrong with it. In fact there are quite a few other controllers out there that I wish would have done the same *cough* Sony * cough*.

They just should have designed it you know the correct way ;)

Yeah, an original Xbox big Duke controller with the cord out the bottom. That would have been nice.

  8. so what I don't get.

if dvd's are so cheap to make, why isn't there a sea of good ps2 games being rereleased along side this price drop at prices so low that buying used would be stupid? Why isn't there a bin of them everywhere, like there is with dvd movies, that are in the $1-$5 range. none of this $15-$40 garbage that we have now.

And what are those movies in the $1-$5 range. Mostly crap or old movies that all have small licensing costs.

This has been a gripe of music fans ever since CD's came out. CD's were always cheaper & easier to make, yet cost more then cassettes that are harder and more costly to make. It's justified with excuses like "they sound better". Well, actually LP sounds even better, and cassettes when recorded right on good tape and played back on good equipment sound great too. "They are more durable and don't degrade". Hahahha, yeah, I've got 30+ year old tapes that still play and sound fine. Even have records that are 60+ years old that still play and sound ok. Even some of the records I have that are cracked can still freaking play. Yet I've got CD's only a few years old that can't be played at all (not even detected by players) because of a few scratches in the wrong places. That the music quality doesn't degrade does me no good when the disc don't work anymore.

Media has nothing to do with cost of product. That's dictated by other things like production costs, licensing fees, what they can get away with, whatever square the beheaded chicken dies on and the like.

Of course both movies & music are poor examples anyways. Remember that the software industry think's it's special and won't subscribe to the policies and proceedures of the rest of the media/entertainment industries.

  9. I say who cares what others say about the 2600 on other sites. Not everyone thinks the 2600 is the best console that was ever created, thats their right to think so.Many if not all here at AA think the 2600 is great,or maybe even the best console to ever grace the planet

And that might be true, but would that fact actually change the outcome of those two threads if they were duplicated here?

A question like: "What system do you play the most in order" is not asking what system you think is better or how much you love it.

A lot of people around here have consoles other then the 2600. How much talk is there of 2600 love here in general on a daily basis? Now, how much non atari talk is there in the Classic Gaming & Modern Gaming forums here on a daily basis? I mean, even the site owner and mods have things other then Atari *gasp* and play them *bigger gasp* *faint*! Oh my, such heresy. Doesn't that, by the standards being set by some, make AA another site to be forgotten too? :ponder:

  10. I don't think what Artlover talks about will ever happen because of production costs. They'll have to figure out a way to do it all on the fly. If you can go in every room of a building someone has to build every room in a building.

Only if you think in terms of conventional computer design.

    Organic biological "hardware" and A.I..

A.I. has been slowly (very slowly) developing for a long time. It's biggest stumbling block is the fact that to date, it always runs on conventional digital computer platforms that are inherently not conducive of the needs of A.I..

Organic based biological computing is only just starting to be dabbled with on a very redumentary level, interfacing small bits of organic matter with a conventional digital computer.

Once organic biologcial technology can be developed to the point where it can independently exist as it's own functional data processor, A.I. development can advance and start to be actual A.I.. Once A.I. technology advances to the point where it has it's own independant conceptual awareness, well, then we'll be at a point where computing will no longer revolve about creating and inputing specific data for the purpose of a getting a specific output. Instead, you input a guildline of what you want, and it creates something itself based on that.

Then my ideas can be easily done. Then you don't need to design every room in a building. You just tell it what kind of building you want, what features you want it have, and it creates it for you. All A.I. has to know is: This is what a swordfish looks like ~ Swordfish has a point ~ Pointy things = stabby things ~ Stabby things poke holes in other things. - Then you're all set to be running around GTA-XII killing people with a fish.

The problem is that organic biological computing and A.I. isn't going to be perfected in my lifetime or any time in the near distant future.

  11. I don't see how a laser will wear out faster when running a CD-R. As long as its running at the same wattage all the time there should be zero issues.

That's not even what the real BS claim was. But rather that the data layout on burned CDR's is not optimised so the mech has to seek more and wears out the gear set. It's still BS.

  12. First to coment on the video: Eh. He's lost his edge for sure. Atleast there were a few shit & fucks in there. And it was nice to see him take a dump on something again, it's been a while. To much time spent on the logo/cat fight. Better then part 1, but it seems a little bit of AVGN's soul died a while back, and it's really just not the same anymore.

Now to comment on the comments.

And the thing with the fake shit on the JagCD? That was just stupid, not funny.

    Quite the contrary.

Shitting on things is kind of his trademark, tho he doesn't do it enough.

    +

The Jag w/JagCD does look like a toilet. Jag owners themselves have been joking about that long before AVGN existed.

    =

    Comedy Gold!

Really, people, even on this very forum, going back years, have been making toilet and poo jokes about the JagCD. But now, all of a sudden, because HE did it, it's not funny. Given the general tone of replies, I think there might be an underlying subjective factor invovled here. A general hate towards his character & show by people who don't grasp/dig the concept, and use whatever they can as an excuse to justify it. :ponder:

He might have been able to fix that JagCD

He still can. It's all fake you know. He is a collector and doesn't make it a point to "really" damage/destroy anything.

if he took it to someone who knew what they were doing
This so called expert didn't know jack shit about the Jag CD based on what was said and shown in the video... And this expert hated the Jag as well.

Aren't we being presumptuous. Given the experience listed of the person, it seems like the they would have been able to fix it if they really tried and it was indeed fixable. Which it may not. It surely wouldn't be the first time a broken and unrepairable JagCD ever turned up, now would it. Reliability is a problematic issue for the thing, so lets not go hiding our heads in the sand about it just for the sake of having another excuse to bash him over.

"based on what was said"? Wow, me thinks people still don't understand the show. :ponder: It's not about being fair, truthfull or making valid points. It's about the A in AVGN. If you expected the guy to be all serious and shit and provide a detailed technical assessement along with an honest personal opinion, well, you're watching the wrong program. The guy knew who's unit it was, knew this would be part of the show, and was playing it up. That was quite obvious.

It is not a bad video for a loser who lives in his mother's basement.

Like probably half the people on these forums. :ponder: - BTW, he doesn't live in his Mom's basement.

Anywho, it's interesting to note that this "loser" who has a college degree in film and produces other things besides AVGN, has big network sponsorship, is making money and getting hits. A segment of AVGN was even in the 20 years of Friday the 13th documentary.

It comes back to the same statement and question I always ask. - If one doesn't like him or his show, why do they watch him?

The AVGN character is what it is, and the show is about what it's about. Low brow gutter humor over trumped up & fake issues. That's the basis of his show, why he became popular, why people watch him. If your looking for a serious review, go somewhere else as that is not the point or intention of AVGN's existance. Really, the criticism about what he does has about as much merit as criticising all the Fast & Furious movies for being about street racing. It's like, THAT'S THE POINT - Duh!!!!

This is from his own website:

Remember this is for comedy. Sure my gripes with the games stem from truth, but they are exaggerated. The whole point is to play bad. If you want to see somebody play good, go watch a speed run. If you take my reviews seriously, you are missing the whole point. Think for yourself. I may actually like some of the games I’m complaining about. I only focus on the negative. Some of my complaints may be legit and others far fetched. To this day, I still get long winded emails bitching about my Castlevania 2: Simon’s Quest review, describing every last detail why they disagree with my video. Meanwhile, I’m just laughing my ass off. It was just a quick little video I made one night when I was bored, just for a little joke, and there’s real “Angry Nerd’s” getting mad about it, which is sad, pathetic and hilarious! The same people probably believe that I go around in real life, wearing a white pressed shirt, stuffed with pens in the pocket, and saying “fuck” all the time and talking about buffallos taking diarrhea dumps.

  13. It can resize in either direction.

    Ok, good.

Not sure what that pic proves tho. MS Gif Animator has a simmilar window, but it doesn't let you select anything less then the original image size. :P

Anywho, I'll have to give it a try. I need to make a copy of my avatar shrunken down to 75x64 instead of the current 120x102.

  14. After looking at Digitpress today two threads got me really really depressed. One was what console has the best library of games. So far 41 people have voted and only one person has voted for the Atari 2600. Next was a thread about the systems you play the most in order. Of all the posts none had the Atari 2600 higher than 5th, and there were at least 20 posts. What the freak happened?

What the freak happened? New and better consoles came out. Did you expect it to stay 1982 forever?

Being a fan doesn't mean one has to be a "fanboy" and ignore reality.

I'm a 2600 fan. I played it for years back in the days, I still have all my hardware and carts, I still play it today in emulation. But guess what, I've got an 360 and stuff too. Guess which one I play more. Here's a hint, it's not the 2600.

For a 32 year old console, being ranked as high as #5 in a list of most played systems considering everything else that is out there is hardly something to be sad about. Quite the contrary, them there is bragging rights.

Do people forget that the Atari had over 400 games?

And a whole lot of consoles have even way more then that, some by factors of 2 and 3 times.

It "had" the best library of games for it's time. But if you're going to honestly try and suggest that here and now, in 2009, the 2600 still has the best library of games, then I think you my need to be smacked upside the head with an Atari 800 computer (old school style, not an XL).

Again, being a fan doesn't mean being a fanboy. Admitting and accepting the truth won't make you any less of a fan.
