http://www.myatari.com/arena.html http://www.myatari.com/arenanr.html It's incomplete tho right, in as much as it wasn't 100% finished? Any idea what exactly is incomplete about it? Just a lack of polish or was it anything else?

You don't download the uncensored stuff?

Orange Box, $10 bux this weekend
Artlover replied to Gregory DG's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Truer words have never been spoken. Just remember, you won't beable to play the PC version any time your internet connection is down, or the Steem servers are full, or in the distant future when the Steem servers are shut down. Do yourself a favor, after you buy it, download an internet copy (it's not stealing if you already bought it), then you can play it whenever you want unrestricted and without Valve spying on you. -
Using the hdd in a Playstation 2...
Artlover replied to nathanallan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Conceptually, it "should" be good. The problem is that the PS2 FTP applications are crap. -
Dreamcast was better than the PS2
Artlover replied to Mazerati's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'm still waiting for someone to make a Katamari Damacy game for the 2600, 5200 or 7800. And I still want it named by the litteral translation: Stickyball Diameter. -

Dreamcast was better than the PS2
Artlover replied to Mazerati's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Considering this has only been PROVEN on every single console ever made that the longer it was out, the better the games were, the more units it sold, the more games it sold........ If you HONESTLY believe that, then why not make a fair comparison then? Compare the DC against only the first two years of the PS2. The first two years of PS2 sales, first two years of PS2 library, first two years of PS2 game quality. Since if the PS2 had been killed off in only 2 years, that's all it would have to show for itself. -
Dreamcast was better than the PS2
Artlover replied to Mazerati's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Just proves you still don't grasp a very key fundamental point. The DC is the ONLY console of the last two generations to have been killed off after only 2 years. A good number of those games listed there came after the DC was already gone. Then, the fact that you included all consoles to present. Since when are we trying to compare the DC to the Wii or 360? Seriously, you're a trip. You should go join the Atari fanboys in the Atari vs C64 thread. Your nonsensical arguments will be a hit there. -
C64 Sonice the Hedgehog like game
Artlover replied to Syfo-Dyas's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Just to clarify what I ment. It's the Wii's VC emulation that sucks, and why it inherently doesn't do any C64 games justice. C64 emulation in general is excelent. Atleast on the PC and Xbox anyways. -
Regarding new data fitting. That was only an issue with cartridge bases system. Once everything went to CD and DVD, that became irrelevent. Even more so now because all games are mostly just a bunch of script files. Even considering carts. They did it with games like Zelda and Dragon's Quest, and even Mother 2. But now, it's completely a non issue. Change a font file, change a script file, change a couple of gfx/texture files and you're done. Also, this kind of touches on what I said about all media being the same. Back in the cart days, a SNES and Super Famicom cart were not the same. Different circuit board, different housings, etc.. Which means needing seperate physcial stock, seperate production lines, etc.. Again, not the way it works now. Now you can run off a few 100k of this language, run off a few 100k in that language off the same machine on the same media. All ya need to do is swap out the press die and the silkscreen template. Also, the translation work is mostly by computer anyways with just a couple of people proof checking it. At worst, they do a crappy job and you get a few "all your base are belong to us" moments. Still easier to understand then a bunch fo squigly lines and dots. As for voice acting (does Mother 3 even have any?). Yeah, that could be a point. Tho it's really not mandatory. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen a game where the voices were in another language and subtitles were used, if not the whole thing, atleast in parts of it. Not talking imports or anything here either. I'd be willing to bet many of the same people playing these niche games wouldn't care about the games being subbed if not flatout be the kind of people that would prefer it that way anyways. Considering that more then one text-only fan translation site exist out there, there seems to be some evidence to prove that. An interesting quote on the subject is from Koichiro Sakamoto a couple of years ago in an RPGamer interview, who said in relation to fan translations that "he actually found them very encouraging -- it's something the developers should be doing, but because they're not, the fans are doing it instead."

Tobad the Wii VC version sucks. So do many of the emulated C64 games apparently. -
Dreamcast was better than the PS2
Artlover replied to Mazerati's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Well, have to give the PS2 this much: It had the first two Katamari Damacy games and they are both better then the 360 one. -
Does the PS2 have a battery inside?
Artlover replied to yuppicide's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Yes, it does have a battery inside. It's for the internal clock and internal memory (system settings, parental code, etc..) -
Yeah, pretty much with the same logic in how to do so and with the same meaningless results.
-
O_o. 1984. How can people still not know this, 25 years later.
-
Yeah, lets look at the numbers. Earthbound (Mother 2) sold around 140,000 in the USA, sold around 300,000 in Japan. Sure, half as much, but it wasn't exactly a stunning success over there either. I always laugh at Shigeru's remark of "We had high hopes for EarthBound, the Super NES version, in the US, but it didn't do well..." Yeah, don't look too far past your own backyard there buddy or are you saying you had LOW hopes for it there? Besides, that was 14 years ago. While I sorta get the idea your trying to convey, no, I don't agree. That's actually a rather prejudiced view. There is no racial/ethnic devide between people wanting to play fun games that interest them. RPG's aren't just an Japanese thing. Hell, neither is Henti for that matter. The fact that maybe some games don't sell as well as others doesn't mean there isn't market for them, just that it's a smaller market. Doesn't make that market less deserving. Further, it doesn't make it less profitable either. It's not like there is a big of a cost invovled in releasing Japanese games else where. There is no real additional overhead. That was already spent in developing it for their own market in the first place. Mostly all that is invovled for reaching out is translations, that's it. This is even more true now, since all regions of modern consules use the exact same media. As long as they aren't stupid and over produce the product for the markets they are reaching into, they WILL make a profit on it. So, unless they just have something against making extra money, there is no reason or excuse for not doing it.
-
For any additional doubt: So now we're comparing the cheapened cost reduced Atari, the 65XE, that came out 3 years later to the C64. One of my "favorite" quotes... "Flight Simulator needs computer power. Only the XE has it". Hahahahahahaha C64 Atari Hahahahahahaha.
-
Yeah, you do make a point there. Atleast as far as this time period goes. If you ask some people today what the first video game console was, you'll get people saying NES.
-
Alignment would indicate constant problems always, not working after cleaning, then not a short time later. Thing is, old disks (particularly if they haven't been used in a long time) are going to be dirty. Not so much physcial dust & dirt, but oxidation. Can't be avoided. Same is true with old video tape and cassette tapes. You have to clean the playback device a lot more often, some times a LOT lot more, depending on how old and infrequently used the media was.

Or we could say he was inspired by a horrible product and made a much improved variant of his own design. If we can get past the Nolan bashing for a second.... Imagine what kind of world we would be living in today if we didn't have people like him doing things like that. What kind of car would you be driving, what kind of computer would you be using, what kind of airplane would you be flying in, what kind of telephone would you be speaking into, what kind of pen would you be writting with?
-
No argument here!
-
Oh, I'm not saying or claiming Nolan is any saint and that he didn't borrow ideas. What I'm saying is: Besides the abstract, how is Odyssey & Pong the same? Besides, technicaly, Baer didn't even invent the concept of "Television gaming apparatus". THAT would actually be T.T Goldsmith Jr. in 1947 and his "Cathode-Ray Tube Amusement Device". http://patimg2.uspto.gov/.piw?Docid=024559...View+first+page
-
I agree. In looking at the Baer patent, I didn't see much in the way of detail that specificly gave him a claim to anything. It's all application of generic circuity. The only thing about it that gives him claim to anything is the "generalized" concept of "Television gaming apparatus". It's surely nothing no one else couldn't have independantly developed. I see it like trying to patent a knife. You can patent what makes your knife different/special, and if anyone copies "those" aspects of it then there is a case to be made. But to patent the raw concept of a piece of metal with a sharp edge for the purpose of cutting, then fight everyone else doing the same thing - no, that shows an inherent problem in the system.

Using the hdd in a Playstation 2...
Artlover replied to nathanallan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Yeah, ditto to that. I tried that Xdumb stuff before a few years ago. Slow doesn't even begin to describe it. Think dead turtle frozen in a block of ice - It's slightly faster than that. Nor have I've never gotten a single transfer to ever complete. After several minutes when it was still less then 1% done, it would freeze up. Always. I'd rather get kicked in the balls then try FTP'ing on the PS2. -
I think a bag of smashed cocks would be more fun then an Odyssey.
