  1. Tried it, webcam made huge file with horrible quality. I'll see if I can get it on VHS with a few other stuff I want to record and then export it when possible. But it's the weirdest thing ever, no documentation at all.

  2. Amazingly, Zellers still exists here (meant to be replaced by Target), so I think I'm going to go and ask them if they have Atari 2600 games that they "produced". And film it.

Good luck with that! I have made several inquiries over the years (well above the individual store level) and nobody seemed to know what I was talking about. Remember that the vast majority of people do not care about old video games, and they are highly unlikely to remember a product last in the stores some 25 years ago.

It would be very interesting to find out who the original manufacturer (or, at least, wholesaler) was, but that information is probably long gone to dust.

Actually, I just want to play a joke on them, that's why. It would be hilarious to get a reaction of "what are you talking about" and then, if they actually do have it (horrendously unlikely), I'm going to buy them.

  3. No issues at all with the VCR or the Genesis, or unless they're way off on the channel settings. Trust me, I've tried changing that, still nothing. I disconnected it from the switchbox and the VCR straight to the TV, and guess what? It still rolls the screen. Also, it started fuzzing out a bit for a minute, but quickly changed back after I stopped my character, probably light connection.

  4. Well, my TV only has the two forks/coax input, it's made of wood, and it doesn't support newer items (anything with the three RCA plugs) well. But, yeah, it's a rolling screen. So, this just happens and I have to live with it?

  5. Connected my Atari, finally, to my TV set-up. It's connected the TV in coax port of my Genesis switchbox, that switchbox is connected to my converter (modern RCA -> COAX, very useful), which is connected to my VHS, which is connected to the TV. It's a horrible method, yet it works.

Anyway, I can play some games like Combat and Missile Command and even Mario Bros. fine on it, but once I choose something like Swordquest and move my character, the screen flickers like mad. I thought it might have been my channel signal selection, yet it changed nothing. My TV has no option on flickering, though, so I can't really do much. The other option was that it's a PAL cart, but I tried my duplicate and the same thing happened.

If anyone wants, I can record myself trying it just so there's some idea on what's going on, but I think that data might be enough. Running on a Darth Vader.

EDIT: Tried every channel combo possible, still nothing. I've tried a few puzzles like the nuclear waterfall, which flickers if you DON'T move, and the run-across-a-highway thing, which flickers whenever it wants.

  6. It's loose, sadly, but it doesn't take up so much space on my shelf because of that.

Amazingly, Zellers still exists here (meant to be replaced by Target), so I think I'm going to go and ask them if they have Atari 2600 games that they "produced". And film it.

  7. Well, when I got my 2600 lot, it came with the Zellers version of Scuba Diver. I'm just wondering how much Zellers games are worth, why they exist, how rare are they, and if there's a demand at all.

  8. Thanks. Yeah, I just don't think today/future gamers will appreciate the Atari for what it is and will think it's just too old of technology to have any fun with.

I don't think I have any real rare games. My for sale is listed in the Marketplace forum and I did list all of my games. Shipping won't be cheap either for the entire lot given the size and weight of the box. I use this same name on Ebay with 100% positive feedback. Maybe I will just try an auction on ebay and let it ride!

I'm 35. I also wonder when I should try to sell my other toys from my 80's childhood, like original Transformers figures and GI Joe, etc, most are in decent shape and have been boxed up for years. I have a Colecovision system too somewhere at my parents house.

Well im not one of them.im 15 and i LOVE retro games and systems like the Nes,Genesis,2600,Playstation,Master system,Gameboy,Gamegear,Lynx etc. Actually i like retro system and games more than modern games.I had fond memories of my Nes.My cousin gave me her Nes with 15 games and i loved it.remember playing Super Mario bros.3 with my sister on the Mario bros. arcade stage.remembers having to blow in the Nes carts too, great memories

I'm not so sure I'd associate "retro" with Mario Bros. anything. Gameboy, GameGear, that too isn't really retro. Lynx? Perhaps in the right context.

What is the definition of retro anyways? Is there a certain date or age point? A certain technology? Is it some event in the marketplace that occurs and the "retro" status is bestowed upon the device..?

I think it's the fifth generation of gaming (N64) and earlier that's classic, and third and earlier (7800) that's retro.

  9. Nostalgia is the driving factor in getting a buyer to part with money.

Today, emulation and the internet can fulfill a lot of that.

Once the nostalgia passes as it does in many cases; folks move on and the "item" drops in value.

Emulation can not fulfill that and it will never replace the place of the real item. Trust me, I've tried, but it works a lot better if you're using a real console, cursing at the forks and cleaning carts with a q-tip.

  10. In my opinion, the classic gaming hobby is rarely a profitable one...it is a substantial financial drain if anything. Unless you have something(s) that is fairly rare, there is little chance you will make any profit...even after over 30 years since purchase. That said, I don't see the market spiking significantly any time soon.

Another observation...most folks who played atari as a kid fall into two categories:

    1. already had their "nostalgia" moment and revisited the games of their youth

    2. are currently having their "nostalgia" moment and are in the process of revisitng the games of their youth

Truthfully, I don't think that today's gamers will care much for the toys of our generation, so when the current market dries up, common Atari items will become even less valuable. This is just my opinion, but it seems logical to me.

Wait a second. I started gaming in 2000 (I was born in 1995) and I've picked up the consoles to relive the nostalgia of older gamers. I can't be the only one that falls under this category. (When people are asked about my gaming love, they think it's an obsession on the toys of your generation).

  11. Nobody seems able or interested in testing custom code, though, hehe. :)

It's been a while since I started this thread, but I actually have an idea for a decent R.O.B. game. I guess the question now is, can I find time to learn how to program it? :P

The only idea that I have is to disassemble Gyromite or Stack-Up and learning from that.

And I'm aware that it's a bad idea, but it's the only one we got.

  12. Xevious- its really just mind numbing on every level.

Ok so different strokes for different folks, but you can't be serious. Xevious is one of the worst games you've ever played? :?

Not any weirder than picking "Super Mario Bros." and "Super Mario World". :ponder:

If those games are the worst you've ever played, then you need to play more games. More BAD games, like Friday the 13th and Super Noah's Ark 3D.

  13. I'm starting a high score contest for Tetris on the original Game Boy. May be played on the GB, GBC, GBA or Game Boy Player, provided that it is the original version. Emulation is fine. For the purposes of continuity, and to avoid disputes, I'm excluding other versions and ports of Tetris.

    What about Super Game Boy?

Yeah Super Game Boy is fine.

I'm going to be using Game Boy Player (not as a competitor, just for fun). I still am on awe that you guys get 100,000+. I usually get up to about level 10 or so (50,000) and that's all the Tetris I can handle!

Hint- get Tetrises. A lot of them. And start at level 9.

  14.

And if you don't have a high end PC and crank up Crysis 2, it'll just turn into a slideshow.

The first game doesn't require high-end specs. It's written on the box as the specs. :D Requires only 1GHz CPU (Pentium 4), 256MB RAM, 32MB 3D Card, and DirectX8.1 or DirectX9 (I forgot).
