Switching N64 Controller Shells

Hey I've got about six n64 controllers in all different colors, but the colors I like aren't the best operating controllers. I know switching the shell is easy, but switching the cord is not quite as easy. I either need to figure out how to pop the colored controller input or how to unplug the controller cord from the board on the inside of the controller. Anyone know of the best way to do this?

Or would it be better to just switch the buttons and joystick?

I was just wondering if anyone had experience with these third party controllers. They look exactly the same as an N64 controller only they don't have nintendo on the front.
