  1. Thank you! That was a routing issue that was quickly fixed. It should work fine now. I actually noticed that all the traffic konked out the 486 web server, so nothing was working for a while. I just rebooted it, so full 15Mb is back online for downloading. HAHAHA!!! Maybe she was looking at real dirty magazines. Either that or she was that blonde that's in all the blonde jokes. [blonde and brunette walking down the sidewalk] Brunette, pointing at the ground: "Look! A dead bird!" Blonde, looking up at the sky: "Where?"
  2. That's my thoughts as well. But I think the reddit post brought in a bunch of new people. It was actually dying down quite a bit. That could be happening on my mirrors because I've had issues downloading large files even via wget from amazon's cloud. I found that using wget -T 5 works well as it automatically retries and continues if there's a lag for more than 5 seconds. I would be interested in hearing if anyone is having problems though. I've noticed one of the modems isn't getting any traffic, which is strange with this type of load. I've got 56 concurrent connections right now on 10Mb bandwidth, so it'll be a bit slower than normal. If the other modem was being utilized, that would be another 5Mb to add to the cause. Let me know what type of problems you're having accessing my mirrors. I think I my router needs to be rebooted.
  3. Yeah I've been slammed as well. Looks like I got the mirror back up just in time!
  4. Looks like the drive passes all the tests. I'm glad I didn't have to scrub it and reformat and all that jazz. Mirrors are back online. There will be an outage in the next 12hrs for a bit when I put the case back on the server and put it back where it was. Oh, and a tip for really utilizing the mirrors--if you're getting multiple files, use multiple mirrors in parallel. There's three different addresses because each one has its own bandwidth even though they connect to the same server. And the server has never been maxed out except in my internal testing, so feel free to hammer it.
  5. Mirrors are back online while I'm doing some final testing with the drive back in service. If the drive passes this test, then I guess there wasn't anything wrong.
  6. Kinda hard to do being that the magazine article predated the next series by ten years and Voyager by 18 years lol. I have to take my mirrors down to scrub one of the drives in the server and re-build it. It started clicking about a week ago. Not to worry though, as the drives in the system are mirrored. I just don't want to risk anything going wrong so I'm going to shut the system down until the drive is put back in service.
  7. My web server needed rebooting, so my mirrors are back online again. Enjoy! I still have to update the files for the newest issues, but there's still almost 10gb there to download if you're just getting started.
  8. My mirrors must be fine. I haven't visited the site where the server is at since before Christmas, but I know if it gets hit too hard it would crash, so it must be okay. I haven't updated the servers with the newest scans, but will be doing that once I get back to the site. I should also be able to get the jpg mirror online.
  9. Looks like there was a mention in a vintage-computing thread as well: Vintage Computing Thread Link No bueno! The good times are over! I actually saw the thread over there and came here to see if I can help with the bandwidth. I've got 3 cable modems that have 5Mb of bandwidth each so I've dusted off my old web server and got a mirror online. The download speeds seem to fall in between the other two mirrors posted in the thread, so my server should help fill a niche. Thank you to the owners of both the other mirrors! Here's the links to my mirrors. The index.html is important, and these links may change if the IPs change: http://24.96.150.90/events/byte/index.html http://24.96.150.75/events/byte/index.html http://76.73.219.7/events/byte/index.html If you want, I can give you ftp access and you can upload the issues as you get them done. Seeing all this computing history online--in the medium it helped create--is just something special to me.
