  1. Yeah I ended up ordering from them the mentioned "Fairchild MTD3055VL N-channel MOSFET Transistor". Unfortunately things haven't worked out the way I was hoping for. I removed the original mosfet (it was a pain in the @ss) then I put this new one in. But honestly the space is just so small there that i am not sure if I messed up something, did a short or damaged one of the small components around that area as the Lynx is still dead. So at this point I am not sure if the mosfet that I bought is simply not compatible with the Lynx (here is the link for what I bought: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/mosfet-transistors/7614549/) or simply I messed up something during installation. Also I tried to short the Lynx again between the battery negative terminal and the jack middle pin and it came to life again, but after like 10 seconds someting started to burn inside of the Lynx as I could see smoke coming out of it. So I immediately broke the short/ switched it off. At this point I am not sure what to do. Probably the best would be if I permanently short it and install some kind of mechanical switch, so when I click the switch the Lynx would turn on. This way I would also eliminate the small amount of standby battery drainage that has been observed by others on this forum. I will think about it, also probably read a little bit about these things as I am a complete noob when it comes to these things.
  2. Yeah I checked out that site too, would have ordered from there if it was a UK store. I ended up buying the ones I linked in in my previous post, hope I will be lucky and things will work out. Either way I will get back here to let you guys know.
  3. Hello guys, the dreaded "no power" issue just struck down on one of my Lynxes, no power with either batteries or psu. I disassembled the case, bypassed the q12 MOSFET with shorting the jack middle pin and negative battery terminal and voila, it turned on. So I have an issue with the q12 MOSFET, I have been googling for a while, seems like there are a few compatible variants but it seems all kind of confusing to me. Here is what I came up finally, I am planning to buy some of these, any idea if it will work? Here is the part name: Fairchild MTD3055VL N-channel MOSFET Transistor, 12 A, 60 V, 3-pin TO-252And here is the webshop I am planning to order it: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/mosfet-transistors/7614549/ Would be extremely helpful if someone who has some affinity regarding these things could advise me on this. Cheers!
  4. Wow, didn't know there is such a big Atari scene in this small city .
  5. Just a quick question guys: I have some 32 AWG flat cables from many many years ago on my hands right now. Would that be ok to use them for the lcd mod? They seem extremely thin, I am afraid they won't be able to handle the current flow, or you think they should be ok? What is the gauge size (AWG number) that you have used for this mod? I don't want to end up with overheating/ melted cables in the Lynx, but also don't really want to go and buy new wires if these would be fine. Thanks for any advice.
  6. Yes it looks like from time to time he is still here, hopefully he will see and consider this Kickstarter idea. And yes I am in Plymouth too, that is quite a surprise indeed .
  7. Wow, that Lotus game would be super awesome!!! One of my favourite game on the Lynx is checkered flag, it would be a great new option, please make it happen !!
  8. I hope Ninjabba is still active on these forums and will see my idea: in the near future I fill start a Kickstarter project (not Lynx related, sorry guys ) and just came to my mind that it would be an amazing platform for this upcoming game. In fact there are/ have been many game projects there which otherwise would have never been able to get to required funding for them. I am sure there would be many many people who would help funding this game. There would be different "pledge" levels. Let's say the smallest would be $3. They wouldn't get any physical copy just a thank you message and they would know that they helped in the realization of this game (this low starting pledge is quite common on kickstarter). And for I don't know, like $40 people would get a physical copy of the game when is ready. What do you think about this guys?
  9. I can't wait for this game. I hope you will release it in a card form, something like zaku.
  10. One more thing that will be interesting is how this new screen will affect the battery life? Will it increase (because of the efficient led backlight) or is there any energy loss because of some kind of conversion ( sorry if it's a noob theory, unfortunately I am quite bad in electronics) ? Would be great if some of you guys who has this screen mod could test it, I know with 2100 mAh Eneloop batteries my Lynx goes for 5-6 hours.
  11. Oh man, I can't describe how annoying that I am financially broke right now when the mod of the year (or rather decade) is out. It looks amazing, it's everything that I have been waiting for like years now, it's here and I just can't buy it. McWill you definitely have to do a second run I am 100% sure as rumours spread and more people will know about this mod they will want to buy this kit too. As soon as I will be in a better situation (by late spring / summer hopefully) I will buy two kits, so me and my brother can play in multiplayer on our beloved Lynxes (provided you will have these kits by that time).

    Lynx to VGA

Roli you are a legend! Thanks for the video. My next upgrade is right here, damn, I just can't stop spending money lol.
  13. Wow, that difference is like day and night, start saving money for this kit. I hope it will be available in the future too.

    Lynx to VGA

As soon as I will see some more videos about these screens from the new owners I will be in for the next run. I hope you are planning to do more of these kits in the near future?
  15. Amazing news, I will definitely buy one when I see that it finally materialises. My only issue is with the brightness thing, McWill you said it has the right brightness already. But I still think it would be nice if you could adjust it somehow, let's say you are in a bright room / outside, you would need higher brightness than let's say playing in your bed at night in a dark room. As far as I know every device with backlit screens have an option to change the brightness. Of course I have no idea how difficult it would be to do it, maybe it would add too much plus to the cost of the unit (and much more development time from your part) ? Either way I am already extremely happy that it looks like this project will really happen, this is the only thing that has really been missing for my Lynx, a proper screen, I will use it on a daily base when finally I will be able to properly see what's going on.
  16. Yes, those lines are unfortunately natural, I have four Lynx 2s and all of them are the same in this regard. Sometimes it's hardly noticeable, other times it's quite distracting (like certain dark scenes in Dracula), but there is not much you can do about it. This is the reason why I look forward so much for the screen mod which is being developed right now by a guy here on this forum ("candle" if I remember right). That would make a WORLD difference. But I still love my Lynx in it's original condition too. At that time this screen was unbelievable. I remember seeing a Gameboy back then is school ( only one kid had one, it was really expensive in Hungary like all other electronic stuff back then), and the whole school was amazed how cool it was. We didn't have anything like the Lynx back then, but my god, if I had seen one as an 8-9 year old kid I wouldn't have believed it .
  17. You will love it, I still use it a lot during brakes at work, although some of my colleges think I am crazy bringing that 25 year old brick to work lol. Also I feel lucky now that I got my Desert Strike with one of my Lynx'es for like 40 GBP (the lynx, and like 4 games).
  18. Panasonic Eneloop batteries are by far the best rechargeable AA batteries in the long run. When I got the Lynx I used some GP 2700 batteries, they were great at the beginning, unfortunately now (after like 3 years) their capacity is somewhere around 1500- 1800 mAh, also after charging them they got drained crazy fast without any use, after like 1-2 months they are flat. Eneloop's capacity stays pretty much the same for a years, also they can be recharged more than 2000 times. Charger wise I can second Atari_afternoon, I use the exact same charger (techno line BC 700), cheap and it is an amazing piece of kit, charges every cell separately, you can recondition rechargeable batteries, change the charging current, check voltage, capacity etc etc. I have two of those chargers so I can charge 8 batteries at the same time.
  19. Wow this is the first time I read about this project. I am really excited about it. I will look up that Elite game, the name sound familiar from many many years ago, but never actually played it more like just read about it.
  20. Just wanted to ask about the possible consequences of leaving the NIMH batteries in the Lynx while I use the wall plug as well, but as I read it above, it doesn't seem like a good idea. I just hate when I am on batteries and they start to run out in a game like Chess Challenge, would be great if I could just plug it in when I am out of batteries. But I don't want to risk the health of my precious Lynx
  21. About the motivation side, just want to let you know that there are meny of us who are eagerly waiting for the finished game
  22. Life can be hectic, I know, if everything was going as I planned for example I would already be programming for the Lynx. I just want to let you guys know that many of us just following this thread/forum quietly most of the times, but definitely looking forward to projects like this. So I wish you guys the best, and more free time in the next year
  23. Yes, it still has...which means anything can happen!? Would be a nice christmas present... (dreaming, dreaming...)

    Lynx to VGA

Man, I am extremely far from being rich but this is the kind of thing I would buy immediately if it was available as a DIY kit or something. I really hope you will have the time to finish this project. The main reason I don't use my Lynx as much as I would like to is the screen quality of it.
  25. I remember playing this game for many many months as a kid, always got lost in those crazy labyrinths . Would be amazing a game like this on the Lynx.
