What was the story behind the Atari Corp vs. Epyx lawsuit?
Pilsner73 replied to DracIsBack's topic in Atari Lynx
Atari could be ruthless but Epyx signed the contract knowing the reputation Atari had. -
Opinion of the Atari Mega ST.

My first ST was a Mega ST2, great machine, and nice case to work on it. -

The company or the rights to the Lynx? I thought it was the latter ... For some reason I keep thinking it was the whole company because shortly after the Lynx was released, epyx ceased to exist. -

From what I remember. Epyx needed more money so Atari said "Ok we will fund you this amount but we expect you to meet all contractual obligations on time or we get it all". Epyx was late and Atari moved forward on taking them over. -
Waiting to hear back for my last PM.

It's like some odd hostage/ransom situation where he is making demands or the computer gets it. I mean it's his stuff and he can do whatever he wants but those type or sales tactics rub me the wrong way. How could anyone trust this person to honor the price it does sell at and ship the items in good condition. Of course for all the people who avoid sellers like this, there seem to be others who do fall for it.

Atari and their pork pies (Atari STE specs)
Pilsner73 replied to oky2000's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
The Commodore vs Atari debate started up in the late 1970s and still alive and well in the 21st century yet the companies are gone. I saw an Atari CD-rom device years ago at a few Atari shows. From what I remember Atari was ready to roll but they couldn't get the right pricing from one of their suppliers. Atari has more than a few products that didn't make it out of prototype stage but then again where's my flying rocket car that I was promised since the 1950s by the automakers and the news media? As to Commodore and the media surronding them never over promising stuff? I remember reading many times how the next version of the Amiga chipset was going to have everything in it including the kitchen sink and yet... Both ATari and Commodore made good products but because of some poor management decisions coupled with both companies never having enough cash on hand to get through those bad decisions they are both gone. -
Glad to here a little education went a long way there.

I'm interested in computer boxes for Atari 800xl, 130xe, 800, 2600 and Lynx systems. Condition would be all packing materials included in good shape and outside of the box in decent shape to excellent shape. Trying to be reasonable here since it's just a box but if anyone has a box they don't need and want some cash for it, let me know.

They do, so this is not a heavy sixer (it is a light sixer). Chris That's what I thought but figured it's better to ask.

I thought all Heavy Sixers had the thick sides/bottom for the exterior - eBay Auction -- Item Number: 350455248368

Making the ST available as a 16mhz integrated upgrade model should have countered the Amiga 500 launch. Oh and 32/512 colours in lores. £125-150 extra would be fine initially. RAM was expensive though. Why? 16mhz = enough CPU power for games + extra colours means same graphics as Amiga games. 16mhz = Mac/PC annihilating performance for serious users crunching numbers. Would of been awesome in 1987 to be able to purchase the STe and it came stock with a 16mhz capable processor even if it was no different than what third parties (and Atari mega STe) it still gave a nice performance increase for small cost compared to stepping up to a 68020/68030 processor. -
My mistake I looked at it real quick and typed 330 instead of 33ohm. As to why I asked about it, I don't see any mention of it in the icd rambo manual mentioned (at least the 800xl section). I might have time this weekend to take things apart and all. You are correct there is no need for the Rambo XL if I have Candles ultimate 1mb upgrade. My worry is I don't know how the Rambo was installed though it looks like the person followed the manual but it could turn into more work getting things back to stock than I'm capable of doing currently.
-
Ah. Yes. Probably are these parts also used on the Rambo Board itself. Are the IC's on socket on that RAMBO Board? Do you have an original XL (64KB)? If yes: you could look where the original parts belong, and how they are installed. It is probably rather easy to obtain a 33Ohm resistor, and a 74LS158 in a electronics store, or on ebay, or perhaps if you have a spare 600XL or something... Greetz M> Hmm I have a non functional 800xl that seems to be a different revision than my working 800xl. I have no idea what is wrong with the 800xl that isn't working and worried about swapping parts from it in case it's the issue. Now I could try swapping the PIA and 74ls158 from the bad machine as a test but like I said not sure if they are working. The next question of course what is the 330ohm for? Because I don't see it mentioned in the rambo manual for the 800xl install.
-
I bought the 800xl with the Rambo 256k already installed. I am only asking because it's in there already and I didn't do the upgrade and have no idea what was done to install it and if any parts have been changed or removed by the installer that may be needed to put back in the 800xl. You say install the ls158 and resistor back, where does one find these?
-
I have been speaking to Candle and he referred me back to you guys. I have an 800xl (all chips socketed) with a ICD RAmbo 256k upgrade installed (looks like a clean install btw). My questions pertain to the ultimate 1mb upgrade co existing with the Rambo 256k upgrade. Will there be issues with it? I don't mind if the Ultimate 1mb just overrides the 256k rambo and there are no issues at all but could there be issues with Shadowing of the memory and loops or other types?

Thanks for the scan, took me down memory lane. Any chance anyone have a scan of the Atari 8bit power supply pdf that works with the currenty version of adobe acrobat? -
For me the newer the LCD (technology wise) the more chance it won't work right or have issues.

Atari and their pork pies (Atari STE specs)
Pilsner73 replied to oky2000's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Ah the STe, a nice computer but too late and it's features were never really exploited by software developers. Of course I have always said if Atari could of released it by 1987 and the TT030 by 1988 who knows how things would of developed. Atari under the Tramiels always claimed to be power without the price and it could of been that if (IMO) the STe is released in 1987 at the same price level of the Amiga. One thing I wish ATari would of done was added a 16mhz mode to it like they did the Mega STe. Now if Atari could of done this in 1987 with actual inventory of machines I think they keep their market share during the dram shortage. Good sales and market share keep software developers in the fold and the STe gets real development for the next few years until the Falcon030 is ready. -
I have tried two different sets of paddles (one older, another new from Best Electronics) and they work fine in games for firing and movement. Seems better yesterday as for picking games and all that but not as good as the joystick.
-
It's hard to get the harmony to accept the fire button press at times. Sometimes it works OK and others it's tricky. I do try to turn the paddle a bit then press fire if it's not accepting the command to get it to work.
-
Please tell me there is a rare game or something to get that kind of price.

Sorry for the delay, appears to be 1.05 on my lcd tv.
