  1. On the DS lite vs DSI our family has both and the DSI is nicer has more features and has working Wifi right out of the box. We do want the 3DS but we are holding off at the moment since it is still indoors weather in our neck of the woods so we are playing and spending money on our standard size TV connected consoles. Maybe when 3DS sales slow by summer there will be some really good prices on bundles with games for it.
  2. I just picked up an Epyx controller today, so far I give it a mixed review. It was OK in most games but a total failure for NES Flintstones as poor fred could not climb anything. The Jump and up don't seem to work together in that game with this controller. I could use that combo in Donkey Kong JR. I will have to pick up the NES advantage or just practice a lot to beat the Flintstone's game, sheesh is it tough!
  3. Thanks River Patroller but I must differ on Galaga, that requires an Atari 2600 joystick on a 7800 with the 7800 cartridge for kick butt performance! For Pac man on Atari I have never found the right controller myself so I must be the problem. Now that I have an NES I will have to try those versions of Pac Man. Like I said earlier I picked up a dogbone controller last night made by Tomee and Super Mario Bros was easier than ever and I had been playing that on Atari 7800 and Wii up until now. By the way I picked the Wii super mario bros all stars over the weekend and it is actually better on the NES than the Wii. Thanks for the pictures and the suggestions on controllers, I am new to NES as I just cleaned up a very used front loader. I have been playing Atari since the late 70's
  4. That is a good suggestion Dragonstomper, I will try that. Yesterday a Tomee NES controller arrived in the mail that I picked up on Ebay and the problem does not happen with that controller plugged in as player one.
  5. I picked up some $5 gamecube clone controllers at the local Five Below store and my kiddo and I used them on the Wii and we like them very much! the only thing we could compare them to is the Wii Classic Controller and they are no worse and a small fraction of the price. Dtshifter
  6. I was having trouble with an old original NES controller and picked up a Tomee dogbone NES controller and I really like it a lot. Has anyone here tried multiple brands of controllers and formed an opinion of which 3rd party NES controllers are good, better or best? Has anyone tried the Tomee standard shaped controller and does it function as well as the dogbone? Dtshifter
  7. I am an Atari player and that is mostly what I know. I picked up for dirt cheap two NES consoles, one controller and one power supply. I managed to get both consoles working with a lot of contact cleaning. There is one annoyance is that with Super Mario Bros on both consoles and only the controller one port, if I press the A or B button while pressing a direction on the thumb pad the game pauses. It works fine on the player 2 port on both consoles. I tried swapping the controller ports inside of the systems and it does not change anything. I won another controller on E-bay but it might take a while to get here and it strikes me as odd that this controller works fine as the second controller. NES Golf works just fine and my only other game is Dragon Warrior and I can make that game pause too with the thumb pad + A or B. Any suggestions? I did web searches and this does not seem to be a problem for other people... Dtshifter
  8. Nintendo is re-releasing Super Mario All-Stars this weekend. I read that many of you bought this when it was released the first time in December. Are the Mario games bundled in the set any different or better than the same games available from the Wii shopping channel? I really don't care about the audio CD or the booklet and the download games can be bought for $21 vs $30 but if there is some value added in the games then I might buy the hard copy. I don't want to mod the Wii because it belongs to my daughter and I don't want to ruin it for her using it online with friends. Dtshifter
  9. I picked up a working NES, controller, P.S., RF cable, with Dragon Warrior game for $6.97 today.
  10. remove the two screws from the back, give that button's spring a SLIGHT stretch and clean the outside perimeter of the plastic part of the button with something like Pledge. If you stretch it too much getting the controller back together might become extra tricky!
  11. We have the Jakks Pac-Man 12-game unit that we really love, along with the Star wars clone wars Motoion game, an old Sponge Bob game, and an Atari Flashback 2+.
  12. Wow, Thanks everyone! I am learning a lot! Next for me will a Harmony cartridge and composite video... Thanks! John AKA Dtshifter
  13. OK I gave up on using a newer TV. New question with the same hardware and game; I have no color / black and white switch on a 7800, is there a way to bring up the star chart so I can warp to other locations or must I really have a 2600 system to play Starmaster? John
  14. Thanks Guys, I'll just have to use an older TV when I play Starmaster. John AKA Dtshifter
