That wasn't me who said that, but I'll pipe in anyway.I'll sit quietly whilst you create why the UMD thing is SOOOO different from the Nintendo controller thing....
UMDs vs. the Revolution controller doesn't strike me as a very fair comparison. UMDs are smaller in capacity, more expensive, and can't be played in as many devices as the ubiquitous DVDs. They don't really bring anything new to the table except their smaller physical diameter. The revolution controller brings a style of control to games that we've never had at home before except in a few obscure standalone tv-games consoles. If anyone can pull this off, it's Nintendo, and the fact that they're willing to try something that gets people talking like this is an accomplishment in itself. They've got a long way before release, so there is plenty of potential for a must-have launch game, just like we got in SMB, Super Mario World, Mario 64, or Rogue Leader for each of the previous machines.
I for one welcome the chance to explore virtual worlds using more than my thumbs as the means of input. I didn't need much convincing, but I'm definitely not going to jump on the shiny new XBOX360 bandwagon right away now -- would much rather see everyones' cards first.
The point is not that the technology is not comparable, the point is that these are both new technologies, and that in one thread Ze_ro states he has not tried the UMD's or the PSP but does not think they are a good idea, yet in this thread he states " I'm just saying don't judge it until you try it. Keep an open mind."
It looks hypocritical and biased to me. Are we only to keep an open mind when its a Nintendo product.....
I also seem to recall a microtransactions thread where everyone was prejudging, when no one had tried them.... and that was ok...
I think the new controller looks stoopid, and as I thought the GC controller was the equivalent of ass, I don't see much of an improvement here, I see a gimmick, an attempt by Nintendo to pull themselves out of last place. I have every intention of trying it out because it is different, but Nintendo has ever fallen short of my expectations, so I don't expect much. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, maybe it will encourage me to get a Revolution- I'm not holding my breath, though.

Y'know, despite all the people saying "OMG, This is such a bad idea!", no one has actually given a specific reason as to WHY it's a bad idea. Obviously none of us have tried this thing, so what is it that you people are basing this on? Just because it looks unusual doesn't immediately mean it's going to suck. I'm not saying it's the Alpha and Omega of video game controllers... I'm just saying don't judge it until you try it. Keep an open mind.--Zero
Aren't you the same person who started a poll about UMD's with your first post stating "I don't own a PSP myself, nor am I likely to buy one in the future, but I'm always curious about things like this. Personally, I think a new (inferior) format is a bad idea, and I'm hoping it'll go the way of Betamax as fast as possible so we don't have stores cluttered up with these DVD wannabees."
So I would say you are an extreme fanboy and perhaps your opinion should be taken with a grain of salt.....
I'll sit quietly whilst you create why the UMD thing is SOOOO different from the Nintendo controller thing....
My first reaction to the picture - "What the hell is that?"
My second reaction "How the hell would I use that?"
My final reaction "I'll try it in the store for novelty, but I'm not gonna buy it, probably."

I was wondering..... what happens to game console display kiosks when the consoles are no longer supported by the store it's in? I've gone to a couple GameStop and EB Games stores that don't sell Nokia N-Gage games anymore, but they still have their game kiosks (turned off) in the store. I think it'd be cool to be able to get their N-Gage QD display unit from them, if it's possible. If any GameStop ex-employees could throw in here and answer the question, what happens to those displays? Do they get thrown out, do they get sent back to the game console company, or do employees take them home?Ask someone in the store. When the Family Toy Warehouse in our area went out of business a few years back, they auctioned everything off in the store, including kiosks. Its worth a shot but you probably aren't the only one who wants it...

That is kewl.

I have played through Omikron so many times, and lately I've been thinking about giving it another go around. The last time I played it I got to a Bowie concert I'd never seen before, and found a bunch of his songs I'd never found before.
Yes I think I need to go play it again.... it is calling for me.....

We have cable service and just this week we finally tracked down the reason why our Internet (and our Live connection) kept going out. It was some transmitter box thing-ee (ask Starscream for the technical term
) from our outside cable line that was transmitting at too high a frequency. Before we found out what the problem was we updated our computer, got a new cable modem, got a new router, had the inside lines checked, and the outside lines, before the cable company finally found out what the problem was. Since Thursday we have not been disconnected once, and it used to go about every half hour.
Not sure how DSL works but you might want to have your service provider check out their hardware if you've done all you can with yours.

GameCube (2001)
Xbox (2001)
PlayStation 2 (2000)
Sega Dreamcast (1999)
Nintendo 64 (1996) (64-bit)
Sega Saturn (1994)
PlayStation (1994)
Atari Jaguar (1993) (64-bit)
Atari Jaguar CD
3DO (1993)
The DC came off the Saturn. It did not stand a chance. I love my DC but it was doomed from the start.

The only time I get violently angry at a video game is if it involves precision jumping. I am the worst video game jumper alive, I should be in the Guiness Book of World Records for Worst Video Game Jumper. DO they have that category? I think I'll nominate myself

-
Yup.
I don't really care too much about any of the new systems, I'm still perfectly satisfied with my Xbox and Dreamcast.... although I heard a new Omikron is coming out on the 360? If true, I'm there. As for the Revolution... not likely.

If Mario was mature-ized wouldn't he have, like, white hair, and, like, wrinkles and need a cane and maybe an ostomy bag?
Instead of Mario GTA they would have to make a game where Mario saves a bunch of old Italian ladies from Nurse Cratchett and her enema bag.
If by making some characters more "mature" they mean put them on Social Security and retire them, then I say yes!

Cause no one sees clearly except you right? Get over yourself for chrisake. You intentionally started this thread with the explicit purpose of making it personal, biased and to call people out. Spouting off about how Nintendo fucked you over yet again and how MS has coddled and fulfilled your wildest dreams. All this is fine really, because I expect such slanted dribble from you, it's the backpeddling that makes me wretch. Oh wait no.. you're just trying to make some general points is all. No need to get all defensive people, really. Sheesh, fanboys these days...
Whatever, either you're an instigator or a poor communicator and either way you slice it, you're a waste of everyone's time.
No the thread was started about a modern game console in the modern game forum. That it happened to be started about Nintendo by someone who prefers at the present time a Microsoft product, predisposes certain members to make assumptions about the thread and the author that are not true. Because you, figuratively speaking, love Nintendo to a fault, you take anything that is said negatively about Nintendo as a personal attack against yourself. You, figuratively speaking, are transparent, predictable, close-minded, and base. You, figuratively speaking, treat people disgustingly and yet are the first to cry foul when the same is given to you.
No one really cares if you, figuratively speaking, love Nintendo to a fault, but for those who don't, they should be allowed to discuss Nintendo's shortcomings, unmolested. In the eyes of many, as supported by the less than stellar sales of the GC and by the jumping ship of multiple third party developers, Nintendo does not offer what most people want. Certainly there are those with product loyalty who will continue to buy Nintendo, and if they do so with a blind eye, I, for one, won't judge them. But if you jump in my, figuratively speaking, shit, regarding my opinions, I will certainly oblige you by doing the same, in other words, right back attcha!
For the record Nintendo never fucked Starscream over, he never bought into them. We never bought a broadband adapter that could never be used because the GC was sold within months of its purchase. If his comments rub you so raw, maybe it is because you are smarting over the fact that you have been lead down the grim path by Nintendo and are setting yourself up to go the same way again.
If Nintendo is going to call their new game system Revolution they should not start off by announcing all the things this "revolutionary" product won't have. Misleading? Of course it remains to be seen, but we already know things that won't be seen on it. Sony and Microsoft, the major film studios, governments of most of the industrialized world, television manufacturers, DVD producers, the cable providers and satellite providers are all supporting HD in one way or another, even local television stations are, but Nintendo feels they are all wrong and Nintendo is right. Perhaps Nintendo is the possessor of some unrevealed new technology that will blow us all away and make this a truely revolutionary product, but as the wise 8-ball says "don't count on it". In case you haven't noticed, since the Atari 2600 to the present time, the video game industry has been a technology driven market. If that was not the case we would all still be playing Atari 2600-type products.
So this thread was not started as a way to get your panties in a bunch, figgler, you -you arrogant pus- and your sensibilities were not even a consideration in its formation. It was intended as a point of discussion regarding the availability of technologies on the next gen Nintendo offering, or lack thereof. That you can't see your nose to spite your face, should not mean others should have to suffer your bitterness.

Back on subject...Maybe Nintendo are actually being more clever this time than we suspect.
What if the Rev is half the price of PS3/X360 and so are the games. If it has come to the conclusion that it is now the 'kids console' then it may clean up by selling at more realistic prices that your average family can afford.
Games are expensive, and your average family probably can't afford to buy many games for the kids. Sony and MS have both become more and more mature in their gaming while Nintedo have stayed true to their origins.
I still think Nintendo are in serious trouble with both console and handheld markets now, but if they do sell games much cheaper then it may change the buying attitude off your average gamer. Could get interesting.
I think that's a pretty big if on Nintendo's part, but it could really help them, especially since they don't have much third party support right now. It can't cost them much to whip out a few more Mario Carts or Wario games.
You're making something out of nothing. Not supporting high-definition displays is hardly comparable to shunning the compact disc format or online gaming. The latter two features add new dimensions to the gaming experience. High def support just takes the same old experience and polishes it up a little.
JR
It is absolutely comparable, if Nintendo is once again staying 2 steps behind the competition. It may not be similar feature-wise but attitude-wise it is.
Nintendo will adopt HDTV in their next gen (after revolution console) by then it willmake alot more sense. They used this same strategy with carts, waiting a gen before
going to optical media and then the Gamecube was not DVD compat but now the Rev
will be. Personally (and I own a HDTV set) I dont see the big deal.. remember in order
to do HDTV resolutions you need alot of processor power, so it's prob better to wait
another generation. It's not like the rev wont play on a HDTV screen.
Most of channels I get are not in HDTV and they look great on my HDTV set.
And by waiting they have successfully secured their third place position. Seems to me they've adopted an attitude of "We can't compete, so we aren't going to." Whoever said it they will always have their niche buyers is right, but exactly how long will that support them?

So whadda ya think about Jade Empire?

-
Beat it today... the game that is. I was surprised that when I thought the game would be over I actually had about a third of it left to do.
Not only that but Wu got some action from the princess, nothing like some suggested lesbian contact to spice up a game.

-
-
I'm assuming whomever you pick becomes Master Li’s ‘prize’ student...‘Wu – the Lotus Blossom’ was my first choice and I haven’t finished the game yet. For some reason I thought Jade would be different from the KOTOR series but it’s very similar (in a good way). I have heard there are 3 different endings and that the evil path results in most interesting finale. I just can't walk that path...
-Rodney
I picked her too. And of course she's following the Way of the Open Palm, although I have done some evil things
I'll probably play through as someone else. I think I'm almost finished, I've been to the Imperial City, destroyed the Lotus Assassins base and am getting ready to head to the palace. I'm really intrigued as to what's going to happen, because the Water Dragon spirit lady thingee, keeps alluding to some not so great events in my future. But overall there are some really interesting things going on in this game, oh and I think I've got the princess all locked up as my future lover

Started playing this last weekend, I love it! What a great game. I have a question though: does anyone know if there are different story lines if you start with different characters?
-
We weren't on for awhile because Jay was playing Doom 3 and now he seems to have lost interest in it. Not to mention we were ranking down and I'm sure most people wouldn't want to be a part of the mess that was us
I'll probably be on tonight for awhile if you come on. I've ranked back up to an 11 in the last week, which is really depressing because I'm back with all the a-holes, but they're resetting ranks next week, so I'll be a 0 again, Woo-Hoo!! And Clock we have noticed you've never been on again

I won't play a 40 hour crap game. I also won't pay money for a three hour game. Why does everything have to be "TO THE EXTREME" all the time. Companies can make pefectly fine 20 - 25 hour games that are fun to play. If you honestly want to play a game that lasts three hours or spend 40+ hours playing a game that reeks of turd tYhen your crazy. Would I rather play a superbly crafted game that is shorter than average or play Drake of the 99 Dragons for 30 hours straight I'd pick the shorter game, but a three hour game is ridiculous.Oh come on now Drake was a superb game, you know you play it everyday for hours on end. You love it!
When I spend my money on a game I want a game that I can't beat in one day, that looks good, plays well, has a decent story, side quests are fine, and is natural to control, I don't want to think about the controller when I'm playing. If it's got all that its got replay value for me. But even if I only play it once, if it's got all that I haven't wasted my money. Of course now we just spend Breeze's money so everything is worth it

-
Right.
Because Sony, Sega, Nintendo, Atari, etc. did not go into the video game business to make money.

ok that's just gross. So you're playing your game while you're doing your business. Then you have to wipe off your business, so you have to set your game down. And more than likely you are setting down somewhere in the bathroom.... have you ever heard that toilet's have a 6 foot spray zone? Yeah. So unless you are consistently and anally - no pun intended - closing your lid before you flush, your toilet is totally contaminating every surface within 6 feet of it. So after you're done and you, hopefully, wash your hands, you pick up your game which was lying in a mess of germs, and probably just got sprayed on. Do you go have a snack right after, too? There is always the option of flushing while your still setting on the toilet.

UGH! Maybe men just have a different point of view when it comes to the whole toilet thing, my brother used to take drinks in there with him. Just...ick

Revolution Controller Revealed
in Modern Console Discussion

Do you remember awhile back when a little video clip made the rounds of the Internet, had a chubby teenager slashing around prentending to be Luke Skywalker? See Star Wars was a movie, and Mark Hamill probably had theatrical training which included fencing so he could look like he was this bad-ass Jedi on the screen. Even though he isn't a Jedi and Jedi don't exist he still knows how to hold and use a sword. I can't see most Nintendo players being that kinesthetically capable.
And I just love the repetitious nature of the above bolded statement, because even if you won't dare admit it to yourselves, I know if this controller was put out by Sony or Microsoft this thread would be going a completely different direction.
