  1. And when we play against young Americans, the Americans are complete idiots. Total knobs. Complete jackasses. Make themselves look ignorant. Can't speak properly.

Need help with that? Here's a handy translator!

Now maybe I can communicate with them.... wait, I really don't want to :D

  2. I have to bump this to say I have seen the other side. Most of the people on my friends list live in Britain, and they are the most fun to play with, one in particular  . And when we play against young Americans, the Americans are complete idiots. Total knobs. Complete jackasses. Make themselves look ignorant. Can't speak properly.

So I have changed my position. I hope all the Brits beat the hell out of Yanks on Live! :D

  3. :x

    it still sucks!

Only for people who have a problem with owning more then one console at a time. :ponder:

Ahhh, with a properly tuned Xbox multiple hook-ups are a thing of the past....so I've heard... :ponder: :P

I think it comes down to being spoiled. If you got a PS2 that actually played PS1 games.... (example of our PS2 not playing PS games... Parasite Eve, loved that game (see avatar<<<<) would love to play it on the PS2, because the PS just acts funky nowadays, but game doesn't work in the PS2).... then I guess you would be dissappointed not being able to do the same with the successive Xbox systems. But I still don't think it should be the one point on whether or not to buy the system.

Sega may have rushed the DC out to their peril, heck it took us a year after release to get one, but it remains to be seen whether or not Microsoft will meet the same end.

  4.

You know I was really excited when the PS2 came out, because we would be able to play all our old PS games on it.... except oops! we couldn't. That was a real let down. Claiming one thing and delivering something else. At least Microsoft is letting you know up front whether or not you'll be able to play Xbox games on the next console.

But really, how many systems has that be possible on? Atari 7800 and, supposedly   , the PS2? Is that really going to be a driving force in your decision to buy a system? Are you really not going to buy the next gen Xbox because you can't play Halo 2 on it? You know Nintendo will never give people that option, not when they couldn't even give you the option of having a DVD player in their current console. We could go on for pages on how Nintendo shoots themselves in the foot on a daily basis, but they've still got their base. Microsoft is not doing anything out of the ordinary.

Nintendo did give consumers backwards compatibility, and still are. Every iteration of Gameboy plays all the previous gameboy games. So, yes, they would offer backwards compatibility. So thats one time they haven`t shot themselves in the foot, heres hoping for tomorrow.

Of course I wasn't discussing handhelds, I was discussing consoles. Certainly Nintendo handhelds have the capability to play older games, but as there is no comparable handheld, I don't think it is pertinent to the discussion.

And my point about the lack of DVD play in the GC wasn't really about playing movies, it was in regards to the original post, that Mock would not buy the XBox 2 because it did not have an option, that the PS2 has. People still bought the GC even though it did not have an option the other 2 concurrent systems had.

The point is, is one feature really a selling point? Will you make your decision to purchase be based solely on the presence or absence of a single option? The PS2, GC, and the Xbox were not purchased by us because of the DVD option, or the backward compatability, we purchased them because they were new & there would be new games to play. The decision to either keep or play these consoles ended up being based on gameplay and games available, which is really the point of video games anyway....isn't it?

  5. While no announcement has been made one way or the other, he expects the next Xbox will not be backward compatible. That will result in a price drop on the current version to help clear through existing inventories once the new model is announced. Both events could happen as soon as the Game Developers Conference in March. He expects the new price to be $129 or lower. However, if Sony can not overcome its supply situation, it may choose not to follow suit.

So this is about the 1,000,000th time I've heard that the Xbox2 is not going to be backward compatable...Microshit is really shooting themselves in the foot...so not only are they going to come out with a console while the current one still has a lot of life left ot live, they are going to screw over everyone by making it obsolete....yeah thats the way to win over your fan loyalty...you would think that they would realize this is part of what makes the PS2 so great, the fact that all those piles of PS1 games will work just fine...if that is true...I'm OUT on the next gen hardware all together...I'll stick with my 4 current Xbox's and collect for it...plenty of stuff to still purchase and the cheaper they get, the more I'll buy....Xbox2...no thank you.

Rather than having the Xbox 2, should we have the Xbox 1.5, just so we can play our old games on it? Why would you want something less than what you could have?

  6. Hey Foxy, is it me or have you not been around as much? Where ya been?

Well, see this really fun game came out in November, and I've been playing it quite a bit. If you need me, I'll be on Xbox Live, CleoJ. Come play with me! :D

@figgler - Is it really possible to be such a bitter person? Someday I'm sure Nintendo will fulfill all your deep-seated desires and you can let go of the bile building up inside of you.... or not.... either way, I'll be playing games, having a good time, rather than sitting around and bitching about why the things other gaming companies are doing are ruining my good time....

  7. So are you saying the treamcast is portable? I dont think so....  All they did is add a screen on it you still had to plug it in. Thats like putting a screen on a xbox and calling it portable. My dreamcast portable is portable, it runs off 2 7.2  3000mah batteries. So that makes it more portable hands down then the tremcast will ever be.

Well you could probably get a car adaptor for the Treamcast so that means it is portable. You are using the wrong word. You should be saying yours is the first handheld. Actually all my systems are portable. I just pick them up and carry them whereever I want them to go..... see .... portable......

  8. "Nintendo is going to control a majority of the handheld business for years to come."

Kind of early to make such a bode statement as that if you ask me.

doesnt nintendo already control the majority of the handhelds from the previous past years up to date ?

Its easy to control a market when your the only one in it. For the first time they have competition.

I am having DC and the end of Sega hardware flashbacks.... DC beats

the PS2 to the market, but doesn't make a difference. PS2 wipes the floor with the DC, and where is Sega now? Making some great games, but no more consoles. DS out first, will it make a difference once the PSP gets here?

  9. I bought a spare dreamcast the other week, it seems a bit bigger than the one I already got though.... :)

    :ponder:  8)

    Si

We were trying to get one of those a few years ago when a local toy store went out of business, but alas, no such luck. Very nice!

Dreamcast my all time favorite system. I was so into it, I had no interest in the PS2 or Xbox. It's still hooked up, I'm in the middle of Shenmue again. I love my DC.

We also have a black, I think it was a sports edition, came with 2 or 3 sports titles, bleh, but don't forget all the colored controllers and memory cards...

  10. If Nintendo wants to compete with the PSP, they need to have something with a lot more staying power as quickly as they can.  Not having a successful set of launch titles that actually tap into the potential of the system is a huge mistake on their part.  If word starts spreading, it will hurt sales and compromise any potential taps into the DS years down the road.  Years down the road, the big three whoever they might be will already be onto their next generations of handhelds.

Slow down, man. Every new system has launch titles that barely utilise the new technology. This is has been evident time and again.

Word has been spreading about the DS and that's exactly why the it has already sold over a million units. To tap into the full potential of any hardware takes years and years - just ask 2600 homebrewers. I don't see the problem here other than a few people expecting too much too soon.

The problem is Nintendo does not have years and years to get something going. For whom the bell tolls......

  11. And as to the French, if our anger towards them is "our latest unenlightened bunch of prejudice" what would you call their historic attitude towards us? Why is their prejudice against us acceptable, but we are "unenlightened" if we return the favor?

Bloody Hell!! We don't have a problem with the French and we've been at war with them for hundreds of years, hostility only really stopped between UK and France with the onset of the First World War. US has no beef with the French at all, heck, they even gave you that fucking statue at Ellis Island as I recall. America is also famous for being paranoid. Again, this is the view of it as a whole, not individual persons.

It is a long running bit of satire in the US, the snobbish French person looking down his nose at the boorish American. You can often find a grain of truth in fiction. Art imitates life and all that. How can we be paranoid, when world wide hatred towards us is the subject of many news stories?

Again my point, if these people hate Americans, why would they go somewhere where they are bound to run into hundreds of them?

Unless it is to be purposely antagonistic, it makes no sense to me.

  12. Americans are trained xenophobes (cf. Foxy's posts.)  :P

What we think of other cultures is quite well known around the planet; if not, our actions exemplify how we're taught to fear everyone different from us (because our interest in other ways of doing things would threaten the stranglehold of the 1% and their tactics for keeping us docile and ignorant -- TV, alcohol, etc.).

For instance, Americans are all anti-French. That's our latest unenlightened bunch of prejudice. "The French are a bunch of assholes." Oh, really? Or is it the Americans who've gone there who are a bunch of assholes?

So the loudmouths on XBox Live (when did gaming become this social club, anyway? Stay off it and enjoy your own company if it bugs you so much), while childish and silly-sounding, are probably just beating you "proud Americans" to the punch.

Well that just shows that racism is rampant around the world.

And it has nothing to do with being a xenophobe. I don't think most Americans give enough thought to other countries to get to the point of being "scared" of them, culturally.

However, it seems the in thing to hate America. Which is fine, go ahead, but why bring it to a service offered by an American company? It seems the height of hypocrisy. You hate us, what we stand for, who we are, how we are, but you will certainly take advantage of a benefit we provide. I shouldn't have to stay off Xbox Live, let the people who hate Americans stay off Xbox Live.

And as to the French, if our anger towards them is "our latest unenlightened bunch of prejudice" what would you call their historic attitude towards us? Why is their prejudice against us acceptable, but we are "unenlightened" if we return the favor?

Why should we have to apologize for who we are?

  13. I guess I'm just stupid for thinking you could leave the politics out of the game

I don't mind the 13 year olds who think XBL is their American Idol audition, or the guys who talk shit before the game starts (because the generally end up in last place). I don't mind the guys who make fun of me because I'm a girl, or the whiney bastards who say "Drop that smiper! I wanted it!"

But I guess I'm also ultra-sensitive about the American bullshit, because the first time I played with foreigners, I thought it was pretty awesome that I sitting in my living room playing a game with someone sitting in their living room on the other side of the world, and I probably would have liked to talk to them but I'm just a fucking American to them so why bother now.

    Oh well.

  14. ...shits on XBox Live? The last week I have played numerous games of Halo 2 on-line and I've played half a dozen with I would guess from the accents Brits, Australians, and I think either Russians or Germans. Aside from the latter, who did not speak English so I don't know if they were or not, in all those games the non-Americans at some point would say shit like "Fucking Americans." or "I hate those fucking Americans." And the last game I was on their team! :?

I have yet to hear an American shoot off something like "Fucking Aussies" or "I hate those fucking British."

If they hate us so much, why are they playing on-line in a service that is hosted by an American company, and where they should obviously be aware that a lot of Americans are going to be?

  15. What is she like? Is she a girly-girl or more of a tomboy? Does she like Harry Potter? If she does Prisoner of Azkaban(XB for sure might be on the others) is pretty fun. She also might like Beyond Good and Evil(XB/GC). My son is 9 and he has the Golden Spatula Sponge Bob for the GBA and liked it pretty well. Rayman 3 if she likes platformers. Jak and Daxter for the PS2 was pretty good if you don't have that. Pitfall is good... I'm trying to think of colorful games, but its hard to say. Need more info.

What do I know about her...? She's a fun kid to talk to; She acts about 5 or 6 years older than she is. In fact, if I didn't know better, I'd have thought she was older than her brother. It's hard to say if she is more of a tomboy or a girly-girl; she's a chameleon of sorts... kind of fits in with any group. Even at nine, she's got one of those pretty faces... she's going to break a lot of hearts one day. I would assume that she likes Harry Potter - who in their right mind doesn't? I know that she loves her daddy, Spongebob (possibly for the fact that her daddy does), and cats. She's the kind of kid who would be happy with whatever she gets just because she was thought of. I just want to get her something that she'll have some fun with. Honestly, as you can tell, I don't know that much about her. Last year I think I got her two Disney games for the computer and a Spongebob art kit with markers and paper.

Oh I think you know her pretty well. Don't forget Barbie! I know not every little girl is into Barbie, but if she is there are so many great things to choose from with that. I just saw the Barbie Fashion Mall at TRU Saturday, and yes the little girl in me said "I want!"

Also if you get stuck rather than cash there are always gift cards. If she's a reader get her one for a bookstore. And she's probably getting close to the age when clothes are starting to matter so a gift card to someplace like The Limited 2 might be appreciated.

The only thing I like more than getting gifts is buying gifts. I love trying to find things people don't ask for, but that they will like. Good Luck and happy shopping (especially if you do it online!).

    :)

  16. Christmas is coming all too quickly this year, and I'm running out of time to get presents.  More particularly, I have a 13yr-old boy and a 9yr-old girl that I am shopping for.

Earlier this year, they each got Gameboy Advance handhelds from their mother.  I thought a couple of games would do the trick.  Tonight I picked up a copy of Metal Slug Advance for the 13yr-old, but I'm still at a loss for the other.  My experience is that the majority of GBA carts are not worth the plastic they are encased in while the other 10 or 12% are gems.  Are there any good games that might appeal to a 9yr-old girl?  She is a big fan of Spongebob; are any of the GBA Spongebob games any fun?

Do any of the GBA Bomberman titles have a battle mode through the link and using one cartridge?  I would be happy to get the two of them playing together if I could, but I'm on an extremely limited budged and don't want to spend money for two seperate cartridges!

Any other suggestions are very much welcome as well.  They have a Gamecube, PS2, X-Box, as well as PC's running Windows, so suggestions for these systems would work as well, although I was hoping to give them each something of equal value that wouldn't be fought over.   I'm more of a classic gamer and I don't really know what good games are out for any of these systems, so forgive me for my ignorance.

Thanks in advance for any help!

The problem I was having is once you enter your internet code at Ubi's site, you have to open the locker on that save. you can't save and then try to open it. So anyway... SPOILER AHEAD!!
