Agreed ! Ive finally gotten used to burning up one torpedo if need be to save my ship. I like to have 2 torpedo's for the sentinel just in case I miss it the 1st try.. Ive found that I sometimes need all 3 to get through the line to get at the sentinel as well.. Again timing and groove. I am sure we shall meet in space again

Zylon, Thanks ! I am pleasantly surprised, ecstatic & exhausted... I played up until about an hour before it ended. Having had some controller issues and a 6 day break this week while waiting for parts from Best , all while watching scores go up , was nerve racking !! BIG congrats to Jbenkle for breaking and giving me one hell of a run on Beamrider. I'm glad that I took my HSC bust point early in the round , figuring that the 61K score I mustered shortly there after would be enough, only to see nearly 67K hit before I could even post it !!!!!!! Saturday was 5 hours of non stop Beamrider and after 2 weeks of wondering what the heck happened to me, my game play returned and I re-found my groove. Whew that was close ! Personal 5200 best on Gyruss. Been to Earth on the C64 version , but until this round was never ever able to break about 220k [years ago] on the 5200, man the kamikaze ships get crazy at Mars. Our champs' score pushed me to work harder on this than ever before, looking for bonus points rather than simply clearing a screen and moving on. I wonder if the Doctorclu score will ever fall . I love Millipede !!! This is a game in my normal practice rotation[ all 3 are really]. I love all the crazy crap going on !! I felt real good coming in, so after getting Beamrider back, I had the extra day to focus fully on this one. EDITED to add that, I still suck at Space Invaders ! Gonna have to make the time to improve as this is truly a mainstay in the library. Big thanks to Zylon for letting me bend his ear during the round, and for putting on some great tournaments !

Wow that is weird.. Yet another production quirk. I have the hole in the lower casing but no switch on the board. No * and yours work with the vcs adapter ? Mine is; AT*363 0451657

The mother board I purchased from best is identical to what was in the unit originally , and yes it works with the vcs . same numbers and markings, just a new 4 port board dated 2 months prior to mine.

Be VERY careful as you install the new mylar with 2 way tape. You get only a chance or two to remove a new mylar fire button section before ruining it. Also, do NOT 2 way tape down the start button mylar as that will make taking it apart if need be a real pain.. As you begin playing , You'll eventually burn through the gold on the mylar circuits, I am on my third on my main controller, but I put in roughly 25+ hours a week playing, which equates to probably 400+ hours per mylar. Take into consideration how many times you press the fire buttons in that time and you'll be buying a few spares to have on hand. Still, one would think they would last a bit longer . On average I have no less than 3 complete gold refrubed and 2 factory originals for certain games on hand at all times... Not that it helps my game play any

I recently picked up a parts 5200 which carries the * in the serial number. As we all know this is the rare 4 port that accepts the 2600VCS adapter, released at the end of the 4 port run. What I find odd is that my asterisk 4 ports lower housing has the cut out for the power supply plug like a 2 port, where as your typical 4 port does not. That said, did Atari manufacture a 4 port lower housing with the intentions of keeping the 4 port format but elimnating the original power/ RF switcher ? I never noticed this until today as I popped a new motherboard purchased from best, into the * unit. Thoughts ?

No luck in the wanted section.. so I am posting here. I am wanting a clean 5200 4 port console..the top and lid needs to be crazy clean for an * 5200 project I have going. Not afraid to pay for new/ mint.. I dont need any games, controllers , power supplies rf, or any of that jazz.. .

ahh but convenience is everythign isnt it?
