I laughed when I played the Genesis version the first time after getting good at the SMS version and beating that. Something happened and when the final boss appeared he got killed instantly by falling in the pit or something strange. I was like "well that was an easy win!"

one of my favorite series. i own the cabinet. for all the sequels though, i think the NES (and later SNES) versions are the definitive sequels. especially the NES DD2. what a masterpiece.

  4. Colecovision Flashback - not for purists. That emulation ain't right.

Intellivision is not EXACT either, but still fun.

  5. Just got Atari 8-bit version of Food Fight, and boy, it's not very good. Very choppy graphics. The 7800 version blows this away.

On the other hand, 8 bit DK blows 7800 DK away. It's a mixed bag.

Good, then I'm not the only one that thinks it stinks.

8-bit DK is really good, that's for sure. Although I like 7800 DK a lot too.

      fun game, too

  7. Atari 800 - Best Game Pack = best emulator EVER. If only all systems had emulation like this.

My original Genesis is long gone, but of all my consoles, Genesis is the type that has most continuously been hooked up and ready to go.

  11. It just feels right to run an NES emulator on a Wii.

  12. Anyone here use Republic Wireless?

  13. Decided to sell my 5200 and 31 games. Going to start it on Craigslist to avoid the pain of shipping.

  14. Happy Father's day - may you enjoy an Atari system with your kids or your dad today.

      I should watch Creepshow!

  15. I bought Mr Do!s Castle for 2600 for $2.50. But when I got home, my son pointed out it was for Colecovision, not 2600. So I check my spreadsheet. I already own Mr. Do! I set it aside all cheesed off at myself. It's now months later. I finally plug the thing in to make sure it works for an ebay sale. Hey! This doesn't look like Mr. Do! Mr. Do!s CASTLE. I didn't have it after all! Win!

I didn't even know that game existed for CV.

      Trebor

Mr. Do's Castle is better on the CV than 5200. Though best home port (So far) is on the C64.

  16. Just won a game of C64 MULE. After 30 years, I still got it.

Games are for children. Grow up! Adults are only allowed to read newspapers and have affairs.

  17. People tend to hate 2600 Laser Blast because it is boring and repetitive. But on the bright side, my kids are impressed that I can play it with my eyes closed.

I used to do that too. But it's still really bad. :)

  18. You ever look at your collection and imagine what it would have been like to own this many systems and games back in 1982? King of the neighborhood, I tells ya.

    1. SoulBlazer

      SoulBlazer

Not to mention emulation. You can easily lay your hands on tens of thousands of games for little or no money for over 50 classic systems. Nobody could play them all in 100 years.

    2. MAC-42

      MAC-42

I mean, imagine just one MAME cab, right? That alone would have made you a legend in the neighborhood, town, you name it.

      Brian R.

      I wouldn't count emulation.

To have the consoles and carts I have now then - I woulda have to have won the lottery or something.

  19. Found VIC-20 carts at a local thrift store. The young cashier rang them up as cassettes (0.25). I said they were video games. Twice. She looked at me like I was crazy. "Cassettes, right?". "OK" I said. 5 carts...$1.25

  20. I found a K-Byte branded K-Razy Shoot-Out 8-bit cart. Atarimania shows it as R8!

I guess the label variation make it rare. But yeah, it's an "ok" Berzerk clone.

I have ONE with a CBS label, but k-byte title screen!

I have both, and IIRC they both say K-Byte on the title screen.

  21. Man, I'm having a hard time finding an old modem with phone cups for a low price. You think they'd be dime a dozen since they have no use anymore.

  24. ET may not be a top 10 worst game, but it is a top 10 most disappointing game. And yes, I've read the manual.

Don't worry, it's a top 10 list, there's plenty of room for those duds too. Pac-man and Defender. I completely agree.

Look around for a "fixed" version of 2600 ET. I don't recall who did it, but they tweaked the collision detection and other issues in the original version, the kind of tweaks HSW himself would have made if he had time. It seemed to make a big difference!

    4. RickR

      RickR

Yes, I've played the fixed version. Better colors and collision detection. A huge improvement. Would have been even better to lose the pits entirely IMO.

  25. With over 200 2600 carts, it is rare for me to find games I don't already have. Today I found THREE!

Oh, I know the feeling. I got 225 or so. But several months ago, I think I took home four to five new ones. Beamrider was one of them.
