I forgot to add, the new version can be downloaded from www.atarimac.com. (And once again thanks to Al and AtariAge for hosting!).

All, Yesterday I released a new version of the Sio2OSX program for the Mac. You can get it at http://www.atarimac.com. The new features are: Added 850 Emulation to allow Internet Modem capability and the ability to connect serial devices. Added the ability to swap disks between any two drives by holding the option key while dragging a disk from one drive to another. Mark

All, Yesterday I released an updated version of the Atari800MacX emulator. The following are the changes: Features Added/Changed: Added emulation of the XEP80 80 Column Display Adapater. Bugs Fixed: Fixed issue with monitor not displaying certain ASCII characters correctly in memory dumps. Fixed issue with Right keyboard Meta keys not being recognized on newer Macs. There has been a report with the Right keyboard meta keys on some Intel macs is still not fixed, so that may be yet to be resolved in the next release. For those of you who want to try the XEP80 emulation, I've also attached the XEP80 system disk here. Mark XEP80.ATR.zip

You found the answer, and you are correct Atari800MacX does not load VAPI images, as there is no version of the library for the Mac. I have asked several times over the past few years, offering to write a Mac version of the library, however the authors are unwilling to give out source code. I would also be willing to simply release a binary version of the library, but of course I would have to peronally have the source to make it. Mark Grebe Author of Atari800MacX

They work for me, in Safari, Firefox and IE. Do you need to reload the page, are they in your browser cache or something? First link for USB Dongle: http://www.usbgear.com/USBG-232MINI.html Link for FTDI Drivers: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm Thanks, Mark

The links on the SIO2OSX page should be working properly now. Looks like the links got lost when the web pages got updated to the new style a few months ago.... Mark

All, The newest version of Atari800MacX (3.7) has been released. This version has several new features and many bug fixes. One thing users may note is the long standing joystick calibrarion problem in the Mac version of libSDL (which the emulator uses) has been fixed, and it is no longer necessary to move the joysticks in all directions to get them to work correctly. The program can be downloaded from http://www.atarimac.com . Here's a summary of the changes: Features Added/Changed: * Added option to not mute sound when emulator is not the active program. * Added the ability to swap disks between any two drives by holding the option key while dragging a disk from one drive to another. * Added the ability to swap two disks from the drive management panel, and added keyboard shortcuts to the drive managment panel. See help pages for operaton. * Updated to version 1.2.12 of libSDL. See joystick calbration bug fixed below. Bugs Fixed: * Fixed issue with joystick calibration by upgrading libSDL library. It is no longer necessary to move the joysticks in all cardinal directions before use to have them work correctly. * Fixed issue with Stero Sound option not being saved. * Fixed issue with Main windows not having focus when starting from the command line. * Fixed working directory issue when starting from the command line. * Fixed bug with Frame Skip preference not being displayed correctly. * Fixed bug with Real Time clock emulation, which has not been working in last several versions. I'm 43, from Kansas City, Missouri, USA (Although I was in Phoenix for 20 years, and grew up in Nebraska, which is where I started using Atari's) First computer was an Atari 800 with an Atari410. (Although I used other's Apple II's and TRS-80s quite a bit also).

Link is fixed now. It must not have gotten moved over when AtariAge switched servers. Sorry, Mark

All, The newest version of Atari800MacX has been released. This version has one new feature, which is the ability to insert a second cartridge image when the first cartridge image is a SpartaDos X cartridge. This lets you use Basic XL, XE, Action, etc with the Sparta Dos cartridge in the emulator as you can on the real machine. The program can be downloaded from http://www.atarimac.com . Thanks again to Al for hosting the web pages. And thanks go to Pengwin (Atrenne Software and Web Design) for the updated web page look on my site!!! Mark

Steve, As you know I'm very limited on time, but I ran all three of the MacOSX versions, and didn't see a crash. I have a MDD Dual G4 1.25 GHz, with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, running 10.4.8. Mark

All, The 1.2 version of Sio2OSX now has the correct link on the website (www.atarimac.com/sio2osx). The link was broke before, but it should work correctly now. For those who haven't read all of the thread, version 1.2 is a Universal Binary, and will work with Intel Mac's. Thanks, Mark

All, The Atarimac web site is back! The web site for Atari800MacX and Sio2OSX is now http://www.atarimac.com . Thanks to Al and AtariAge for hosting the domain. Right now the old web pages are up there, and I will be updating the pages and products as I get time during my unpacking. Thanks again for your patience, Mark

doctorclu, I'm only waiting to stop moving boxes around the house (and around, and around...in the never ending sea of boxes...I will never do a double move again, as I get to move again in 4 months when the house we are building is done..). That and for when Christmas is over and I get a few spare moments to register the domain. I've already talked to Al about it.... Pengwin, Kagi is showing you as having paid, and I've changed all of my info with them, so it should be fine. Thanks everyone for your patience, Mark

Hi everyone, I'm still alive, however Cox screwed up my email. The deactivated all the accounts but my master account, and the one they can't seem to figure out is atarimac, which is the one I wanted alive (including the web site). I have Cable Internet installed here in my new house in Kansas City, but we are still living in a sea of boxes. The only computer I have set up right now is my work computer for my home office. Hope to get out personal computers set up in the next week, and get web pages reestablished elsewhere soon after that. Till then, the download links for both Atari800MacX and Sio2OSX that show up on www.versiontracker.com still work (thanks to Al). Regards, Mark

I have a Universal Binary version ready for release, just waiting for Al to post it to the server. After that, I'm moving cross country, so it's going to be several months before I get a chance to work on it again.

A bug fix version of Atari800MacX has been released, version 3.4.3. It fixes the issue with Gamepad Identification which several users had reported. Please visit the Atari800MacX home page to download the latest version (source code is also available).

Paranoid, The joystick problem may be an easy fix, if not let me know. There is a problem with the SDL library on the Mac (it's not the emulator, you will see it with other SDL games and programs on the Mac as well). Joysticks need to be "calibrated" when you start the emulator. Move the joystick in all the possible directions before you start playing the first game. If you don't do this, you will find it attempts to move in the wrong directions. Mark

Remo, Now that you mention it, I just noticed yesterday that SIO sound doesn't sound right anymore either. I haven't changed anything it that area of the emulator, so it must be something that the core guys have done, or something has changed in the SDL library, or OSX itself. I'll try to look into it to see what I can find...... And sounds like there are some issues with chaning the artifacting modes. Since those are relatively new, it doesn't suprise me. I'll take a look. Thanks for the reports, Mark

Paranoid, I'm always willing to listen to honest critisim. If you knew the history of Atari800MacX, you would know that it has grown from a small program to one with many features, based on input and work with users to add them. Obviously you are one of the people willing to work with developers, based on your comments here. But what I've been trying to stress is in other threads here is that I can't fix problems if I don't know about them. What little time I do have to work on the emulator, I would prefer to spend improving it (or heaven forbid, actually using it, which is why I wrote it in the first place......over 4 years ago now). What I don't have time to do is sort through every forum on emulation, and find threads where people might have a problem. I have an email, [email protected] for the emualtor support, and people need to use it. And beyond that, if they report a problem, and want it fixed, they need to be willing to follow up. I can't tell you how many people over the years have reported issues, and then went quiet when I tried to find out how to reproduce them. Someone here hit on a salient point. These emulators are FREE. I wrote it beacuse of my love of the platform originally, and my desire to preserve it. However, believe it or not, I do have a life away from the Atari. So continued improvement will require work by users as well as myself. Thanks, Mark

Paranoid, If you feel the Atari800MacX Emulator is so bad, the source code is there, feel free to contribute and improve it. Right now, it's a one man operation. I always get a kick out of people bashing emulators, and how bad they are, but I don't see many with the skills to contribute to them. Mark

I have a fix for the "Identify Gamepad" problem mentioned above, it was an inadvertant error the crept in in 3.4. BUT, I'm going to wait a few days before doing another release, to see if anyone else has errors they haven't reported. Folks, I'm not psychic (although my daughter might claim I have eyes in the back of my head like most parents ). Remember, if I don't know about an error, I can't fix it. Please don't remain quiet, and just assume it's going to get fixed in the next version. Atari800MacX is a huge program, with many, many features that I have added at the request of users. I do try to test things, but if I were going to regression test everything on every release, I would have to quit my day job, and I'm afraid donations for the emulator do not pay near that much Thanks, Mark

I have released a bug fix release of Atari800MacX, version 3.4.2. I was able to duplicate the bug Kevin found and fix it, as well as fix one other one that was reported. The changes are: Bugs Fixed: Fixed bug where Mouse pointer was stuck in Emulator window when returning from Full Screen mode to Windowed mode. Fixed issue with Screenshot capture on Intel Macs. (TIFF File was being stored in little endian format) Please visit the Atari800MacX home page for complete details about what's new and to download the latest version (source code is also available).
