  1. Brian,

The key bindings are listed in the Help file, which you can access under the Help menu. I just noticed it's called SDL Help, not Stella Help, but I'll change that in the next release.

The Mac specific key bindings are listed in the Macintosh section. All of the rest of the common bindings are listed in section 7. Keyboard Layout.

On the topic of zipped roms, I think Steve had mentioned earlier that he planned on that feature for version 1.5.

    Thanks,

    Mark

  2. Al,

Do you have any details on how you get the hang to occur? I just found an issue with fullscreen and OpenGL mode which was causing problems in the Mac version if you opened a new cartridge or reset (of course you wouldn't see in with reset, since you don't have that feature yet :) ).

I will admit the amount of testing on the Mac version is limited. I'm afraid I spend more time using my Atari800 emulator than Stella. BTW, a new release of Atari800MacX is on it's way too, with just a few feature enhancements and bug fixes. If anyone reading this has suggestions on it also, let me know, as I plan on releasing it in the next couple of weeks.

  3. All,

I guess I've been working too hard, as I didn't notice that Al's post was from March (before the new Stella was released), and there was simply a new post to this thread. I'll just go back to sleep now :D

    Al,

Yes, OS X really needs an updated Atari 2600 emulator.  MacStella is a carbon version of Stella 1.2 so it will not run many newer games, and it does not support USB controllers so the Stelladaptor (or any other USB devices) cannot be used with it.  I've already offered to send a free Stelladaptor to the first person who updates MacStella to the latest Stella source and adds HID (Human Interface Device) Manager support.  Of course, a nice Cocoa port of z26 (with a nice front-end) would also make me happy.  :)

    ..Al

Stella for MacOSX 1.4.1 (StellaOSX) is a Cocoa version based on the newest source, and includes Stelladaptor support. And you already send the Stelladaptor to me :D

  5. Room34,

I'm the author of the Mac port, and I've been gone on vacation for the last week. I'm probably going to need your help to figure out what sort of bug you are seeing. What version of OSX are you running? And what speed processor?

I haven't seen any problems on my machine, but I have a Dual 1.25G G4 PowerMac. I do have an older B/W G3 (500M) I can hook up later this weekend and try it on.

  6. Minefield,

Sound will probably be an issue as well, your right. Streaming sound (which is what I will need to use, since it's how the Pokey emulation produces it) was only added to the Palm API in OS 5. Now, Sony may have a proprietary API for it, just as they do for the Hi-Res graphics (more than likely they do, since they have MP3 players...). But it will make a seperate version for the Clie's necessary.....Since I have an OS 5 machine, I'll be doing the Palm API first, but I'll let you know when I get around to do a Sony version, as I'll need testers.....

  7. ppc:

Well, I'll try doing the port as a straight 68k port first on the Tungsten, and see what kind of rates I get. If it's fast enough, then I probably would consider a Clie version (Their high-density API is different than the Palm 0S5 one, but that shouldn't be a huge deal). Heap size might be an issue as well, as if the emulated RAM isn't in the heap, I suspect speed would be a bunch slower.....

    krisjohn:

The Symbian probably would be cool, but unfortunately, Symbian has it's own OS, not Palm OS, so someone else will have to tackle that one......

  8. I was wondering if there was any interest in a port of Atari800 for the Palm. It would most likely require OS5, since it would need the ARM processing power to be fast enough. I believe I have all of the info I need to do one, and since my Mac Port Atari800MacX seems to be relatively stable, I was looking for the next challenge :D .

The only issue might be that I would make it donation ware this time. The only Palm I have is a Tungsten T2, so if someone wanted it to work on another model or specific features, they would probably have to volunteer for testing, or donate one :). Or if enough people donated as part of donation ware, I could be convinced to buy another toy....

Anyway, just looking for thoughts and if there is a demand.....

(And it would of course not be a commercial product like the recently announced 2600 emulator for Palm. Atari800 is a GPL'ed emulator, so it would be hard to force people to pay for something they could get the source for and compile themselves....)

  12. Yes, it is still under development. There haven't been any changes in the last 2 months, but the mailing list is still active.

It's what I base my emulator and also Atari800WinPlus is developed off of. In fact this emulator, has some features that WinPlus doesn't, such as cycle exact timing. (The last I saw, someone on comp.sys.atari.8bit said that it might be quite a while before WinPlus gets updated again....I don't know the author ,so can't say.

You might try the full source download for the emulator, as there are some files in the Doc directory that might help. There isn't a comprehensive manual that I know of.

To answer your R/W question, you use the space key to toggle between read only and R/W.

  13. Atari800MacX supports the Action cartridge just fine. There's only one problem......you'll have to buy a Macintosh, instead of your Windows machine (but that has othter advantages :-D.....).

In all seriousness (I'll stop my Winblows bashing for a minute :) ), you might try the WIN32 compile of the Atari800 emulator from http://atari800.sourceforge.net. It's the emulator that Atari800WinPlus is based on, (as well as mine), but Atari800WinPlus hasn't been updated in a little while. One thing that won't work properly with that emulator (or Atari800WinPlus), is state saves. I have a version that works on the Mac emulator, but I need to get time to feed it to the Atari800 team so they can incorporate it.

  14. One thing to be aware of though. If you read the atari800 users mailing list, you'll find out that the atari++ author has violated the atari800 license. He has used portions of the atari800 code and design (I know he said he has wrote the emulator from scratch....some areas yes, but not completly true...atari800 authors have verified this).

However, he has not released the new emulator under the GPL, but has created his own license which says you can't modify the source without his permission.

According to his license, we can't use his code without his permission. Yet, he felt free to use the code contributed by other authors, without following the rules of the Atari800 license.

  15. Hi...I'm the author of the Emulator. Actually, people were asking for the key programming, but they were really asking harder for the gamepad support...so it came first :P

Analog joysticks should work with 5200 mode, I have two different brands, and they both seem to work. Let me know if you have any problems.

Please report any bugs to the email address on my web site. The next release will probably be mostly bug fixes, as I think I'm done with major features at the moment. I wrote this thing because I wanted to use it, but I've been to busy writing it to really play with it. So I should be testing it more extensively as I use it as well.

    Thanks,

    Mark Grebe
