  1. All the files are still mirrored on the FTP server linked in the first post.
  2. You can name them in whichever way you like. It's uploader's prerogative regarding how he names the files. For example, I would hate your naming convention, simply because the files would not be sorted properly in the folder. I would rather have BYTE YYYY-MM-DD ED## - Description and I might even drop the DAY completely because it's of no use. But I guess you're one of those Americans that have no clue about date standards like ISO_8601
  3. In the following days, the server (the FTP one) currently hosting the byte magazines will be upgraded to more powerful hardware, but unfortunately instead of 1 TB+ of disk space it will now have just about 240-480 GB SSD drives. Therefore, I may no longer be able to host the full pack of about 72 GB - I'll probably only keep the files uploaded in the last half a year or so, the ones in "Uploads 2012" and "Uploads 2013" and "March 2013". Everything else was available for more than a year now so everyone should have them by now.
  4. If you're in "Uploads 2013", go back one folder and you'll see that folder. ftp://helpedia.com/pub/archive/temp/Byte/March%202013/
  5. A forum member has contacted me and gave me an issue of Byte to publish on the FTP server. As he didn't mention if he wants to be anonymous or not, I'll leave it at that. The file is located in the /March 2013/ folder. Had a brain fart and couldn't think of any better name so live with it, I guess. He says he has two other issues of Byte that he's willing to scan and wants feedback regarding the current issue he produced for us. He still has the raw files and Abby Finereader 11 for this issue and he seems motivated to redo the issue taking your feedback in consideration. ps. Download speeds may be slow for a while , as the server is busy with other stuff so don't panic if the download speed is low, it will get better,
  6. It's interesting how you're so vocal about something that's free and takes a lot of time to accomplish. Someone's wasting hours of his free time to scan, perform ocr and upload an issue of a magazine just so that you would have something to complain about. I suppose it would be better for him to stop completely. If you're so picky, why don't you go buy a 50$ scanner and a few magazines from eBay at 20-50$ a piece and post them here? What, you don't like things unless they're free?
  7. I have scanner and I could scan them but being in Europe, shipping would cost a lot. Well, i guess it depends where you are, I just assume you're in US.
  8. to keep everyone updated, byte magazines are still uploaded to the ftp address posted in the first post. It's not Thumbnugget, it's someone who may or may not want to be anonymous so as long as he doesn't post in the thread, he's anonymous. New uploads should be in Uploads 2012 or, if the person uploading them decides so, maybe in Uploads 2013 (he may decide to keep them all in one place)
  9. See this link : http://www.atarimagazines.com/creative/ All articles from Volume 9 - No 1 (Jan 1983) to Vol 11 (Nov 1985) Not full magazines but at least it's something.
  10. At a brief scan, the files uploaded in "Uploads 2012" seem to be of better quality than the ones in "Other 2". The file sizes are larger and on one pdf I checked, the pages are more aligned. I can host all versions on the ftp so it's not a problem, if you guys are fine with the versions in "Other 2" you don't *have* to get the new uploads. If anyone else has copies of Byte and plans to get rid of them, I could scan them and put them online and I may pay for shipping if it's not to much. Or if someone wants to upload some copies that are not already on the ftp, feel free to contact me.
  11. I don't know what he's talking about - the ftp location I'm providing (and referenced in the post above) is still working just fine and it's linked in the first post of this thread. There's currently 5 separate downloads of these pdf files as I type this.
  12. Those are the files in the Other and Other 2 folders on the FTP address in the first post.
  13. No, it's not about space or bandwidth, but about lack of interest. Used to be several different ips downloading constantly, now it's usually just one every few hours. I figure in a month or so if there's no activity in this thread there wouldn't be any point to keep them online. It wasn't meant to be a permanent location anyway (you can see that in the URL) and I don't want it to get indexed in search engines and piss people off later when the url won't be valid anymore. I already said the files will probably still be available on request even if I decide to disable the url, people will just have to pm me for the ftp account details. The Other/Other 2 thing... those pdf files were scanned by someone else and were hosted on a rather unreliable site... I started to transfer them with some automated software but noticed several files got corrupted in the process due to the continuous connection resets of that server. This set was saved in "Other" folder. A few days/weeks later, I actually managed to get in contact with a person that had his own copy of those pdf files, so he uploaded his files in the "Other 2" folder. So if you see the same file with different file sizes in those two folders, one of them is corrupted - I just didn't have time to go through each one manually and check them.
  14. So I guess this thread is now dead... or maybe I missed some updates and the discussion moved on to another thread I don't know about ? I'm still getting people downloading from my ftp link but it's winding down. So unless there's going to be more posts, I'll probably remove the files from the server in a month or so (but I'll probably be able to give access to people on request to them)
  15. All the scanned issues are at the ftp address in the first post.. oh well, posting it here again: ftp://helpedia.com/pub/archive/temp/Byte/ I've added now a text file with the file names, it's called !filelist.txt (should be listed at the top) By the way... not sure if people know... The "Other" and "Other 2" folder in the ftp address above contains some Byte magazines that were retrieved from some people, so there may be issues there that were not scanned by Thumpnugget or Tosteve. "Other 2" is a copy of "Other" folder obtained from another source, some pdf files in the "Other" folder were corrupted so I copied the same content from a second person that had them, but I did not have the time yet to manually check each pdf and see what's corrupted or not.
