  1. I've been debating buying a Vita recently. Whats the deal with the 3G vs wifi? Seems initially like a no brainer to go for the wifi version since there is no data plan needed.

The 3G/Wi-Fi one just lets you stay connected to AT&T's Broadband network in real-time (supposedly) for Near and Chat and Leaderboards for a "more fantastic gaming experience".  Not sure I care about all that AND gaming too! ;)

I have little actual interest in that so maybe the wifi version will be plenty for me.

  2.

Gps as of now and as far as I know. I'm not sure what, if any, future plans Sony may have for it though. Getting the 3g one I guess future proofs you in case there are any games that have Gps functions built into them later down the road. Also, of course, you wouldn't be able to play online with the wifi version without a hot spot.

Memory cards are pretty ridiculous. I'm going all physical media (when there's a choice) so I avoided the $100 32 gb card. In fact I think my 16 bg card was over kill for me.

Are there actually games planned with GPS functionality? And same for me in regards to physical, downloads are only tolerable to me if there is no other option or its at a substantial discount. Do the games save to the memory card or do they save to the game cards?

I went with the wifi version. Anytime i've ever had the choice in this with electronics that's what I've always done and I've yet to say to myself that I wish I had the 3g version. Anyways the 3G also has wifi so it's not missing anything that the wifi version has. The wifi version is, obviously, missing the 3G capabilities. Also, I could be mistaken, but I don't believe the gps function will work on the wifi only version.

So its just GPS you miss out on really then? I just can't quite grasp why have a data plan on a portable console seems idiotic. Was pricing out what it would cost to get one a bit ago, I hadn't realized the memory cards were so retardedly expensive nor that the games were as expensive as they are. Might end up holding out for a price drop unless some absolute must have games show up.

  4. So the last few nights my PSP has started doing something extremely annoying. Randomly during game play it will act as if the home button has been pressed, screen going gray and asking if I'd like to quit. It happens completely randomly with no seeming pattern or amount of time in between, sometimes it will do this and then do it again within seconds other times it won't happen much if at all. It has also recently had a few read errors with the UMDs, all on mint clean discs. I'm wondering if they are related. So is this something I can fix or will I need to contact Sony do you think? It should still be under warranty if its a 1 year warranty like I think I recall it being.

  5. I personally am not to big a fan, its fun but not engaging enough to keep me playing for a very long time. Its a shame I can't save and pick up my progress later as that would greatly increase how much I enjoy it. As is its just collecting dust, been thinking of parting with it.

  6. So later today I'm going to be babysitting, my brother is coming along to keep me company and we are planning on bringing a console to pass the time once she is down for the night. I was thinking of heading to my local retro store and picking up a new multiplayer game for us. So any recommendations? Some of the co-op games we have are Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country 1-3, Super Bomberman, He doesn't have any co-op games for his Genesis and I'm not even sure what there is available and sad as it is we have almost nothing for the NES.

  7. UPDATE: Blaze dismisses £500 price tag rumour.

UPDATE: A spokesperson for Blaze has told Eurogamer that the £500 price tag suggested in MCV's story is incorrect.

"It's not £500," they confirmed. Apparently MCV's figure was based on a month's old forum post from a community member declaring what he'd be willing to pay for the device.

Blaze wouldn't confirm what the actual price will be, but said an official announcement will be made soon.

I'm glad to hear that! I just hope the final price is a reasonable one, if when this goes on sale its in the $100 range with room to bend a bit I'm game but beyond that I'm not sure.

  8. To go along with the good news that its real there is also this horrendously bad news on pricing.

Retro gaming specialist Blaze has told MCV its planned £500 price tag for the NeoGeo X is accurate, contrary to other reports circulating online.

Games news website Eurogamer posted a story suggesting the £500 price tag is innacurate. It also said a Blaze spokesperson confirmed this.

However, Blaze has told MCV that the £500 price is on the cards but the company is keeping an open mind to a potential price drop.

This £500 figure is based on a conversation MCV had with Blaze today (Thursday, March 15th). It is not based on a 'month-old forum post', which Eurogamer claimed.

You can read more details on the NeoGeo X here.

Not so great news. No way would anyone touch this thing in that price range, not even a Neo Geo fanatic (even if it was made by the old SNK itself!).

Seriously. I really wanted this thing too, I was filling out my info on the site linked too in Dr Manhattans post when I decided to see if there was on info on pricing, I was shocked when I saw it would cost more then $700 in the US, thats just a mind numbingly stupid price, I could buy a genuine AES and several games for that kind of money, or a freaking MVS and a multicart.

  10. I'd just like to say something about the Art Direction, as in, there is some this time. Things in Skyrim are a lot more interesting to look at than in Oblivion. The environment in Oblivion comes off as sort of a watered down Middle Earth, but Skyrim really does it's own thing, which is nice. It recaptures a lot of the wonder and mystique that Bethesda pretty much nailed in Morrowind only to fumble in Oblivion. So props for that.

i agree with this 100%. That was one of my beefs with Oblivion, it just visually got boring pretty quickly, there were no enormous differences in environments or city design as there were in Morrowind. One thing I REALLY hope is that the next elderscrolls game takes place in a more fanciful environment with a much greater variety of environments. As is both Oblivion and Skyrim make me feel like I'm on earth.

  11. Sounds like The Legend Of Kyrandia to me - and if it is, it's my favorite PC game of all time!

I think this may be it! I could have sworn the perspective in game was more over head like in the zelda games but one screen shot is extremely familiar, I had a sense of deju vu when I saw it so I think this may be the game. Now I need to find a copy and try it and and see! haha honeslty I want to try all the games mentioned so far. That Albion one looks and sounds fun. Now I just need to find these game and figure out how to run them. Haven't run anything that old since I got Day of the Tentacle working on my last computer a few years ago.

This is the screen shot that caught my eye. The character doesn't ring a bell but that altar or what ever it is with the gem stones set in it is extremely familiar.

  12. I don't think it's correct, but for some reason, Faery Tale Adventure immediately popped in my head, so , was that it?

No that doesn't look like it. I recall it being more colorful.

About what year were you playing it? Any idea if it was 4, 16, 256 colors?

I'm not 100% certain as I'm not sure how old I was(ir if it was infact 5th or 4th grade I was in) but I think it was around 1995 - 1997. I know it definitely wasn't 4 color, and 16 color doesn't seem right but its possible I'm remembering it being better looking then it really was since up to this point it had been one of the best looking games I'd seen on a computer.

  13. So today I had a conversation with someone about the old PC games we used to play at school. like Oregon Trail, Where in the World is Carmen San Diego, and many others. During this conversation I remembered one that I recall little about, I played it back in the 5th grade when a friend of mine brought it from home and installed it on the school computer. Memories of this game have popped up every now and then when I'm thinking of old PC games nad everytime it drives me crazy because I can never figure out what it was! What I do remember is that it started in a forest and was in an overhead view kind of like the Zelda games. One of the gameplay mechanics featured birthstones, opal, amethyst, emeralds that sort of thing, can't recall if it was an actual game play mechanic but I recall them being things you found. Beyond that though my memory is very fuzzy, though I recall it being very fun, we played it all the time. The only other detail I recall was in caves there were things that looked like berries but also looked like they were smoldering embers. I know its not much to go by but maybe someone here will have a clue what I'm talking about and I can put this mystery to rest.

  14. My local retro store has a knock off system on display, can't remember exactly what it was but it was a game boy knock off(of an advance I think). I asked about it once and why they had it and they said it wasn't for sale or anything they just kept it because it was hilariously shit. They let me read the manual and it was comedy gold filled with engrish and over the top exaggerations of its power and in several cases flat out lies right in the manual about its magical abilities.

  15. You can get them brand new for pretty cheap on ebay IIRC.

Pretty cheap being about $30, from what I can tell. I'm hoping to not have to pay that much for this game, new or used. Actually, $20 is really pushing it for me. :|

Odd... last time I looked it was selling for $15 new w/ free shipping.
