Nintendo 64. Named to show off itself as a 64-bit console.
Nintendo Virtual Boy. Pretty obvious one like the one above, was a virtual reality system created by the same man that created the Game Boy.

Thats a pretty easy level. Just get the dynamite, shoot those yellow blocks in the upper right corner such that you can place the dynamite in the middle. When it blows up, they will become gems you can collect.
I figured that out by accident last night when killing the monsters that are invulnerable to lasers. I should have figured that one out easier seeing as blowing up those kinds of blocks for crystals was how you solve the level right before it. lmao

Can anyone tell me what the trick is to beat Easy Trap of Doom in Crystal Mines II? I've played the level a bunch of times and can't clear it, I destroy and collect everything on the screen and then have no exit. Whats the trick?

I highly recommend the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat. They take place in an alternate history Ukraine in the area around the Chernobyl NPP. In it the radiation from the disaster has wrecked havoc on the surrounding area and caused all sorts of bizarre spacial and physical anomalies as well as very extreme mutations of animals and people. They are all great FPS' and can be absolutely terrifying. They are amazingly atmospheric, they leave you feeling totally alone and vulnerable when your in the middle of no where. And you will damn near crap your pants when you hear some of the more dangerous enemies like the snorks because if they find you before you figure out where they are they will seriously mess you up and if your running on the hardest difficulty they will kill you. One of the things I really like about the series is you really feel like just a guy with a gun and not some super powered killing machine like you tend to be in most FPS. There is also a really good modding community for the game and they do all sorts of great mods, everything from simple skin swaps to total game overhauls. I've run through each of the games 3 times, once unmodified, then twice with game changing mods. Had just as much fun as I did the 3rd time as I did my first.

I've had my Game Gear stored away for some time. Tonight, while doing some cleaning my wife told me she found all the boxes for my system, parts and games.
I'm curious its value CIB. All parts work, and are in excellent cosmetic condition, including boxes, plastic storage cases for games, manuals, etc.
Here's what I have:
- Game Gear including AC adapter
- Car adapter
- Super Wide Gear for magnification (this is the only item not CIB)
- Sega TV tuner - sure this isn't worth much due to the digital conversion, except to a completist collector.
- Master Gear Converter
- Ghouls n Ghosts (SMS)
- R-Type (SMS) (not excellent cosmetically due to label scuffing on edges)
- Mortal Kombat
- Columns
- Klax
- Prince of Persia
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Leaderboard Golf
- Clutch Hitter
- Chase HQ
- Terminator
- Joe Montana Football
I am original owner on everything, and took good care of it. I'm not expecting to hear that the stuff is worth a lot. Just being curious.
Affraid I can't give you any real insight into the value as I'm not to sure but most of the time when I see a GG for sale its going for around $20-40, not to sure about the games or TV tuner. If your interested in selling it let me know, my brother has been talking recently about trying to get one and might be interested since your said yours is in good condition.

Number 2 can be a lot of fun. Used to play all the time with my little bro when we played Donkey Kong Country or Super Mario.

Tetris DX for Game Boy Color is by far my favorite version. It was the last Tetris I bought and I still play it quite frequently at night. Its just fantastic getting into the zone and knocking out a 1,000,000 - 5,000,000 score while watching TV, almost a meditative feeling when I break a million.
I'm sure there are better versions but I love this one personally. -
Where did they all go anyway? I've tried a few of the Square/Mistwalker ones on 360. I gave up on Blue Dragon pretty quick, Lost Odyssey looks more promising, and I just got Infinite Undiscovery and it seems pretty fun too, but there aren't any seminal classics coming out, so it seems. Where did they all go? I like Fallout 3 as much as the next guy, but sometimes I want my cliched anime tropes, turn-based battles, and cleverly-disguised linear narratives.
What are your experiences with JRPG's not just this generation, but also on the PS2, which I would consider the last real stronghold of the genre? I have all the home consoles for this generation and the last one, so I'm interested in all angles.
Definitely give Lost Odyssey a chance, I'm playing through it right now at the momment and I can tell you for a fact its an amazing game! The combat system is nothing new, just simple turn based combat with a timed button release to increase your damage and all there the other typical things like magic casting. One thing thats unique as far as I'm aware as I can't recall a game ever letting me do it is it allowing you to change around your equipment in battle. Its a fantastic feature and really allows you to be very tactical in battle. Rather then having a single balanced set up against the most different types of enemies you can at the start or any other time to what will do the most damage then and their. The games story is also a real treat, its not over blown and difficult to follow like JRPGs can be at times, but it has a lot of depth. To get the most out of it though its essential that you read every one of the many optional memories that appear through out the game. They really add tremendously to character development.

LMAO at PGR4, i have played that ever since i have had my 360 and haven't ran into that glitch yet, must be quite rare glitch to run into.
i never tried doing that in halo 2, i think i might try that sometime.
Here is my funny glitch picture. me and a friend was racing on Nürburgring. we was about 3/4 the way done with the race when he rolled over and crashed into the barrier. I was ahead of him by a few thousand feet and he asked me to come back because he was stuck. He didn't say how he was stuck, i found out once i got to him. I was laughing really hard when i seen him sticking halfway into the ground. he was still able to move forward and backwards slowly but was not able to turn the car.

I have since then been able to reproduce the glitch on the Le-mans track, i haven't been able to reproduce this on the ring yet. every once in a while me and a few friends go to Le-mans to do this. one of us would get into the glitch and another would push the one in the glitch in the middle of the straightaway, after that we start using him as a ramp. the best car to do this with is the veyron.
Sometimes the glitch plays hard to get and you will fall through the map in a unending free fall (top speed has been around 452), or a car gets stuck in the wall and will start jumping around like a jackhammer, if done just right another car can get stuck under the car acting like a jackhammer, or it will just fling the other car away. I need to put the replay on my storefront and download it onto my PC and edit the video to get to that point in the replay and upload it to Youtube.
Wow! How on earth do you make that glitch happen? I play all the time on the Nurburgring and LeMans circuits and have never had that happen.

I've only had 2 really good thrift store finds. The first was a boxed Sega Saturn for $30
My other great find was a Nintendo Virtual Boy in fantastic condition at a local store, also for $30.
Those are some pretty sweet deals there, brotha! Welcome to AA, by the way!
Thanks.
My recent craigslist find of a nearly brand new Atari Lynx II brought me here. I think it may becoming a collecting addiction, as unlike every other console I own games for it are cheap. Yesterday I traded in an old Game Boy Color and a spare copy of Links Awakening for 2 boxed Lynx games, Crystal Mines II and Shanghai, at a local gaming store that specializes in retro games. Shanghai is addicting! Killed my first set of batteries playing it last night.

Eternal Darkness for the GameCube is a damn scary game at times. And the first time you get smacked with one of its 3rd wall breaking scares it will freak you the hell out.

I've only had 2 really good thrift store finds. The first was a boxed Sega Saturn for $30, inside were the system, 2 controllers(1 has a non function right shoulder button), a power cord, an RF adapter, 2 inserts, a spare internal battery and 3 games, Virtua Cop, Virtua Fighter and World Series Baseball 98. There was also a Sega Stunner light gun for it at the thrift store on a nearby shelf but at the time I didn't realize it was for the Saturn and when I did and went back it was gone. :'( I've since purchased Astal, Gex and Clock Work Knight for it, all very fun games. Gex being by far my favorite.
My other great find was a Nintendo Virtual Boy in fantastic condition at a local store, also for $30. I was kind of hesitant to buy it at first(no clue why), I thought about it for a few days and decided what the hell why not. So I went back and picked it up for $30, it came with 2 games, Mario Tennis and Mario Clash. I then fell in love with the thing and its been my favorite vintage system of all the ones I own since. I have since bought 2 more games for it, Wario Land and Red Alarm. It unfortunately started suffering the ribbon cable connection issues that they all suffer eventually a few weeks ago. But fortunately I was able to find a man in the Netherlands whom is experienced with soldering the connections that are at fault. There is a temporary fix you can do that involves heating the displays in the oven to resoften the glue that attach the ribbons to the display but I wanted a permanent fix and that one only lasts a few weeks. Just got an email from the guy in the Netherlands today and he says they are all fixed!

I've been a gamer a long time and I have seen plenty of glitches, most often there annoying and can ruin a session if you are a long time between saves but sometimes they are hilarious and totally make your day. I decided to start this thread so people could post experiences of theirs and if you'd got them share screen caps of them. This also includes glitches that are the result you trying to do something the game didn't intend for you to be able to do.
Here are a couple of mine. The first two pictures are from Project Gotham Racing 4. What happened was I was driving along when suddenly I fell through the road and started accelerating like mad, the room was filled with a massive roaring sound and I had to quickly mute the audio. The car got to as you can see 967mph and in fact passed 999mph and rolled over multiple times, it went so fast it took several attempts to get a photo of the speed as it rolled over very quickely. The view from the inside of the car was bizarre, everything was distorted and rapidly changing shape, it looked like something you'd see in a scifi when a ship travels faster then the speed of light.
The 2nd set of photos are from a Halo 2 session with my little brother. We decide to see just how far we could take a Warthog on the level Outskirts. We managed to get it all the way through all the buildings and to the Scarab at the end and after a few tries even managed to land on top of it. When we did it locked in place, stuck to the scarabs roof several feet in the air. As the scarab moved the Warthog went along with it moving side to side back to forward randomly and killing us if we were to close to it during a random shift.

No "original" Lynx hame has. Only 3 or 4 "new generation" cartridges do

Didn't think so, just thought I'd ask since it seems totally pointless to have a screen to enter highscores when it deletes on restart.

-
Is there no sort of internal memory in the game cartridge or system? I ask as I tried Shanghai a little while ago and just fired it up again to play some more only to see the high scores are all gone. Do all high scores on Lynx games reset on every play?
-
Cool - I just checked it out. However, be SUPER careful when popping the screen off, it's insanely easy to break the clips on the frame side when removing the screen. I broke one on my parts Lynx doing this. If it was my "good" one, I'd take it way slower...
Yikes! I'm scared to try this now as mine is in spectacular condition and it would be a real shame to wreck it.

-
I just picked up this game as well as Crystal Mines II today. Both were boxed with manuals and inserts for $5 each. Traded a Game Boy Color and a copy of Links Awakening for bother. Got to love having a local store that specializes in retro gaming.
I have yet to try either out but Shanghai sounds like a really fun game.

No site link, but I opened mine up from the back, removed the board and display, then used compressed air to clean it. It's pretty obvious how to open it up once you peel away the rubber grips to unscrew the unit. There is also one screw in the center of the battery compartment...
Is that really the best way? I read that the screen can some how be easily popped off, unfortunately site didn't say how. Do the rubber grips just pop out or will I need to re glue them or anything if I use your method?

My Lynx II has dust behind its screen, most of it is impossible to see but there are several large bits in it that are very visible and annoying when I am playing. I read on another site that the black plastic piece on the front of the system surrounding the screen can be removed but the site gave zero instruction on how to do so. Can anyone point me in the direction of a site with instructions(preferably with photos illustrating the process) on how to clean out dust that accumulated under the screen?

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm thinking I'm going to get Toki first as that looks and sounds like something I'd enjoy, also possibly viking child though the game play videos I can find of it look a little slow paced for my taste. How about shooters like Nintendo's Metroid or Megaman or dungeon crawler adventure games like the Zelda series. Does the Lynx have any games like those and if so what that the best ones?

I just thought I'd say hi since I joined. I just bought an Atari Lynx II that I found for sale on craigslist today. I found it while trying to find an Atari Jaguar locally. I found one but it was non-functional unfortunately but on the plus side I noticed in the same add that the seller was selling an Atari Lynx. When I saw that it sparked a memory of playing a friends Lynx when I was a little kid and I knew I had to have it. So a few emails back and forth and I am now the proud of a Lynx II. As well as all that was being sold with it, a sun visor/screen guard, a battery pack(uses 6 D-Cells) and 4 games, Chips Challenge, Rampart, Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure and Hydra. He had a few other games, 5 I believe but I had to pass as I recently had to spend almost $50 to repair my Nintendo Virtual Boy.
Everything was boxed and as far as I can tell complete. I'm especially happy with the system itself, aside from a few scratches and some dust behind the screen it looks almost brand new. The previous owner definitely took great care of it. In total I paid $55, $35 for the Lynx + accessories and $5 per game(talked him down from $10). I'm not really sure if it was a good deal or not but I don't feel cheated so I'm just going to assume it is.
Can anyone give me any suggestions on what games I should look into for it? I'd really love a good platformer or action game, something a little more fast paced, I'm not really digging Hydra though so nothing like that for now(who knows maybe I'll develop a taste for it down the road). Thanks in advance.

Carry case for Lynx II question
in Atari Lynx
Posted
So I'm planning on buying a carrying case for my Lynx II but from looking at the listings I'm seeing on ebay I'm rather confused as to what I'd be getting. I want to get the smaller pouch design rather then the big case but I'm seeing 2 different types of them on ebay and am not sure whats correct.
I was planning on buying a brand new boxed one from these guys. They claim its for the Lynx II.
eBay Auction -- Item Number: 370483126205![1?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=370483126205&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]](https://atariage.com/forums/applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=http://rover.ebay.com/roverimp/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=2%26pub=5574883395%26toolid=10001%26campid=5336500554%26customid=%26item=370483126205%26mpt=%5BCACHEBUSTER%5D&key=8c2015ca1ff8f4d487eb3a6a91a5aa501a3d61e4824d734b3f987b5351f5620a)
But then I noticed this case, also claiming to be for the Lynx II for sale and noticed it looked quite a bit different. It appears to be much shorter then the picture on the box for the case in the other listing.
eBay Auction -- Item Number: 300522808454![1?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=300522808454&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]](https://atariage.com/forums/applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=http://rover.ebay.com/roverimp/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=2%26pub=5574883395%26toolid=10001%26campid=5336500554%26customid=%26item=300522808454%26mpt=%5BCACHEBUSTER%5D&key=9b85c63b473142b157dc00476526bd0ae927541c3cef63ad6c31c738a71e7dbc)
Any help would be appreciated. The 2nd link is the only shorter looking case I'm seeing atm on ebay and I'd buy it right now if it wasn't for the fact that I'd much rather have a boxed one. Bt if it is in fact harder to find that style of case for the Lynx II and the seller of the boxed one is wrong then I will buy the loose one.
