I'll defiantly give printing out one and gluing to a sheet of plastic a try, $11 bucks is a lot to pay for something so simple. -
Anyone ever replace a N64 cart battery?
A_Locomotive replied to A_Locomotive's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Thanks but I actually managed to get it out. I kept trying and I guess I just had to keep the soldering iron on it a lot longer then I'm used to and it was the battery holder I was trying to remove, since the battery was attached to it it seemed like way to much trouble to try and remove it, especially since batteries with holders already attached are so easy to get online. Ordered a new battery as well. Hopefully when it arrives the game will actually work, no idea if it will but I can hope. . -
So I recently decided to try an resurrect my copy of Harvest Moon 64. Long long time ago my little brother killed the game buy saving his game while using game shark cheats, after that the game has refused to start ever since. When you put it in absolutely nothing happens. I'm assuming that this is due to the cheats screwing up the game as I can't think of any other reason for it to just totally stop working. So anyway I decided I'd try removing the battery hoping that doing so would wipe the memory and allow it to start working again. But I've already run in to a snag, I can't get the battery out, the stuff holding the battery to the PCB(which looks like solder), won't melt at all no matter how long the iron is held to it. So I'm not really sure what to do, I can't find any guides on replacing N64 batteries so I have no clue why this isn't working. Anybody have any insight?

Character motivation in RPG/action plots
A_Locomotive replied to DickNixonArisen's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
The second Deus Ex game did that as well if I remember correctly. -
It wasn't really better, it was just more relevant when it came out IMO. In the remake all the movie and pop culture references are just way to out of date to e as funny as they were originally.

Got an N64 console, what else do I need?
A_Locomotive replied to OldSchoolRetroGamer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I don't think it's that hard to believe. Here's two from IGN I bought it with my N64 and it really soured me on the system. Because I bought it when I got my system, I was stuck with just that one game for a very long time. Wow. Maybe its just that I'm such a huge fan of the franchise that I'm seeing it through rose tinted glasses. I honestly do think its a pretty good game. That review brought up some good points but overall I think its better then the review they gave it. I've always wanted to try it but never owned a Dreamcast. My brother bought one recently though so maybe I can talk him in to getting it. Honestly, the 3DO version blows every other version out of the water. It seriously does! I borrowed my buddies 3D0 way back when it was still being sold, let him borrow my PlayStation in exchange, man that was a fun few weeks, played Road Rash nearly non stop. In fact it totally over shadowed every other game he loaned me(8-10 I believe), so much so I can't recall the title of a single other game. It would almost be worth buying a 3D0 just smack an old lady with a chain from atop a Firecracker again. -

I find that kind of hard to believe that anyone would give Empires such a bad view as to say to stay away from it. I think its a fantastic game, easily in the top best N64 games made. I personally really like the entire game save for two really hard bosses. -
Anyone know where I could find a Doom controller overlay?
A_Locomotive replied to A_Locomotive's topic in Atari Jaguar
Exactly why I wanted it for my Jag, I've always read good things about this Doom port. Heck even the AVGN liked it and he hated pretty much everything else about the console. lol I didn't mind the lack of music in Duke 64 so I don't think the lack of it in this game will bug me to much, though its a shame it has none. -

Thats not a bad idea actually. Would work great temporarily. I'd still definitely like to get a real or reproduction one though, just so my copy is 100% complete. -
Yes, they are prototypes only I wished they would made it to the final design What were the rollers used for? Sorry I know nothing about ColecoVision's but was watching this topic as I was curious what the box would go for.

So I just won a boxed and nearly complete copy of Doom on ebay, got it for $15. The only thing its missing is the controller overlay. I see there is one seller on ebay selling them for $8 a pop with $3 shipping!!! That seems really high for just a little insert. Does anybody know where I might find one cheaper? Or if for what ever reason anyone has an extra would you be interested in selling it?

Pokemon White/Black Launch Footage
A_Locomotive replied to Mendon's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Same, I picked up my copy as well as one for my little brother today and it took me all of 1 minute to buy it once I figured out all the copies were behind the register with none on the shelves. I've only ever waited long at a launch 2 times, one for Halo 3 (worth it) and when I got up at 3 or 4am to wait in line for the Wii launch (also worth it lol). -
I did read it back when I'd first made this. I was just a bit uneasy about taking something sharp to them to get them off. I was actually trying to find a busted one on ebay I could take apart as practice first before I blew all my money on a Jag. lol I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to taking apart things when I'm not sure how easy they'll go back together. but I might just toughen up and give it a shot.

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

Where the hell do you live that Imports are just commonplace in pawn shops etc? I'm wondering what you passed on. AX Seriously, its seems like the pawn shops around where I live are all TV's, guitars and guns. Last time I went into one they had several guns that I'm 99% sure are illegal under the assault weapon ban. They do get some neat things though on occasion I've seen tons of old NES games, a Ninteno ROB, various other gaming odds and ends and a Mauser C96 / Red 9. -
How do you get the rubber grips off? Looking at mine they seem to be pretty firmly attached and I'm afraid to just start pulling on them and risk tearing them. How do they re attach, did you have to glue them or anything?

Lines on left side of screen, controller input being seen in the snow. Classic textbook examples of bad Jaguar RF. It will double or triple if you hook a Jag CD up to the thing. Get an AV cable and this should clear up. In my case the lines are appearing on the right side of the screen. I'm definitely going to give a new cable a try. If it turns out the Jag is at fault then I'm doubly glad I bought it from a place that still honors the original 90 day warranty. Wow! You were totally right, what a difference! I cleaned up my cables a bit and all the fuzziness is gone. I've still got the annoying lines/snow but the graphics look much better and aren't randomly changing in quality any more. Completely unrelated to my original post, I'm surprised at how much fun Cybermorph is, I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I am. Nearly every review I've ever seen of it tears it to shreds. But poor draw distance, lack of music, and other little niggling things aside I'm definitely enjoying it, even if it wasn't the only game I owned currently I know I'd still be popping it in and playing.

Ok here is a video of the problem along with something else I noticed that seemed kind of weird. The other thing I noticed besides the lines is that sometimes when I skip the Jaguar intro rather then letting it play through, a bunch of bright green vertical lines cover the screen for a fraction of a second, sometimes behind them it says Atari other times there is nothing there. This doesn't happen every time I skip it, its like 50/50 Is this normal??? video of intro screen Here is a video of the lines that I'm seeing during game play. Its at its most noticeable towards the end of the video. Video of lines/snow across screen during game play. I'm actually getting ghosting in the game infact. This is the only console I've ever had any sort of issue like this with which is why I'm being so paranoid about it. Every other old console I have has RF adapters instead of good cables and this is the only one with any issues at all.

New sealed copy of Baldies for Jag CD

Ok so I gave it a shot on my CRT TV and the lines/snow are still present. The fuzziness is no longer noticeable so it looks much better on my CRT then my LCD. But the lines are still there, they seem to appear with controller imputs. I also noticed on the edges of the screen little lines of color appearing periodically though they are extremely infrequent. :/ I'll post video when someone gets home who can hold a camera while I'd got the game going. Well you can buy them sealed from best electronics which is where I got mine. I wanted a sealed one as I figured it would be the best way to get one in good working order that was nice and clean with a good condition box. That totally worked out. :/ I've actually been watching the sealed jags that have popped up on ebay recently and they all sold for around what mine cost shipped so even if I had decided to resell it I'd have made like $14 max out of it. lol

I hope its not the system. The one I bought was brand new still sealed in its box. The lines I'm seeing aren't solid colors, they are sort of black and white and look kind of like snow. I've got an old CRT in my bed room, I'll give it a shot on that.
