This is exactly why I put labels on all my cords for pretty much everything I own. A little OCD yes but it saves me from dealing with mystery cables.

Man thats a bummer but you can't argue with the price you got it all for. I'm the same I never give away gifts, but I appreciate the thought. I take it your work at a retro game store then? I've got a few near where I live, they do have Saturn games but unfortunately they do their research and price them accordingly so no sweet deals for me. I mainly meant looking at flea markets which I go to frequently. Whats wrong with the model pictured? That is the version I have as well so I'm curious. Looked up that racketboy mod and I have to say that sounds pretty sweet! -

What games did she give you? All I can make out are Robotica, Nights into Dreams, Wipeout, and Madden 97 I'd love if someone gave me a copy of Nights and Wipeout(loved it on playsstation!). I never have luck finding anything for my Saturn. Aside from the copies of Virtua Cop and Virtua Fighters mine came with(along with a crapy base ball game) the only games I've come across and bought are Clockwork Knight, Gex and Astal(which I'm actually playing right now, determined to get farther then I've been able ot get previously ). I'm always on the look out but never see to be able to find them. Oh well at least I've got a few solid games for it. -
Sega Genesis controller working intermittently
A_Locomotive replied to A_Locomotive's topic in Sega Genesis
Ok then, what happens if you use a different controller? Could it be the console port? Its the only controller we have unfortunately. The thought that its the port crossed my mind as well. I really hope not. I went looking for another controller to test that today but had no luck finding one that didn't look like it had come out of a landfill. If you happen to have an Atari 2600 controller, you could plug that in and test the directional. I believe the 2600 controller's button coincides with button B on the Genesis. Unfortunately I don't. -

I gave this a try and still no luck. I used 99.9% isopropyl and qtips and gave the gold contacts and carbon dots a good scrubbing. The upper half of the d-pad is still not working. left, down, right and the downward diagonals work as do all the other buttons (though the start button is still working intermittently). -

None that I can see. they all look pretty good as far as I can tell You mean the little metal ball bearing like thing? There is a small round spot in the board underneath it, assumed it was part of the boards design since it looks so perfect. Here are some photos of the inside of the controller. -
So today my brother bought Vector man and Rocket Knight Adventures of the Sega Genesis he bought not to long ago. I noticed that the C-button was sticking while playing vector man which since it was the jump button was making it impossible to play. It wasn't an issue with Sonic, his only other game, so we didn't notice before. So anyway I opened up the controller to clean up the buttons to prevent them from sticking. Worked like a charm and now the buttons all move perfectly but now the controller is working very intermittently. I've taken it apart and but it back together several time and each time it works differently. Such as the last time it fixed the d-pad and allowed us to shoot up and at angles in Vector man which it wasn't letting us do at all before I cleaned it. Unfortunately now the d-pad doesn't work when you press left so you can't go backwards. The really irritating thing is whats working and not working on the controller keeps changing seemingly at random. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? I've taken apart and cleaned the controllers for pretty much every console we own at least once and never have I had any trouble before so I'm at a total lose of what to do.

why are game developers so afraid of the literary world?
A_Locomotive replied to xg4bx's topic in Modern Console Discussion
H.P. Lovecraft's work would be excellent source material for survival horror games. There actually has been one game made that was based loosely off his story The Shadow Over Innsmouth. It was actually a very good game IMO, a little buggy but the overall game was very solid. Dark Corners of the Earth? Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice were based on Lovecraft's work too. Yes Dark Corners of the Earth. I was having a brain fart when I posted and couldn't remember what it was called and didn't fell like looking for my copy. I'm not familiar with the other two you mentioned but after looking them up I'd love to play them, especially Prisoner of Ice since its based on my favorite Lovecraft story. -
Dang I didn't realize there were PAL and NTSC versions. I for some reason assumed they were all the same due to their age. The one I was looking at was a european one (I really want those NES like gamepads) that I assumed would work fine for me since the guy selling it is from my city and he includes a US power supply with it. Are the euro gamepads difficult to get normally? I just looked over ebay and saw only 2 both for $40+ I'm no sure if thats normal or if its just because they are new/never used condition.

I've been thinking recently that I'd possibly get an Atari 7800. I've always wanted to get a 2600 and I figure this would be the first way to kill two birds with one stone since it can play both 2600 and 7800 games. I'm wondering though What a good price on one would be? I see them sell for very different prices some high some low and want to make sure I don't over pay for one.

It was actually a very good game IMO, a little buggy but the overall game was very solid. Another book that would make a great game I think would be The Decent by Jeff Long. I think it would be a pretty good bases for a action/horror game. There have also been several games that have been loosely based off books other then the already mentioned Dante's Inferno. The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is loosely based off the book Roadside Picnic, as well as some elements from the movie Stalker which was also based loosely on the book, which is a great read by the way. Metro 2033 is also based off of a novel by the same name. I'm sure there are a bunch more examples but those are the only two that for me come to mind. -
Its a shame, BC-kid/Bonk is an amazing game, I'd be in heaven if he'd gotten a Lynx release. I had no idea the Lynx did so well in Europe. In fact I wasn't even aware it was sold there till my English brother in law told me about his experiences with one, when I told him I'd bought one recently. He loved the Lynx since it was the only handheld that acknowledged that lefties like him even exist. haha

WOW! Those are amazingly low! What sort of condition are they both in? The CDX was pristine, only missing cables. The Lynx was outwardly sort of beat up, no gouges or anything but the rear label was worn and the power jack was missing. I replaced it & discovered that the screen's pretty washed-out, but apparently that's just a Lynx thing? Oh, and this past week I bought a PS1 Analog Joystick for about $15. The front-facing X and O buttons on the right stick take a little bit of effort to trigger, but that'll probably be fixed easily enough. Overall it's in excellent shape, much cleaner than the one in Wikipedia's pic. Congrats on thar CDX, I've never even seen one in person. The lynx is a good find as well, I wish I could find another that cheap. I want a busted up one just to take apart so I can figure out how to safely remove the dust under my good ones screen without risking breaking it, figure the best way to do that is practice on a broken one. I'm going to have to start checking out the local pawn shops again. Hopefully they'll have more interesting stuff then the usual slew of guns and tvs. -

Why don't you ever finish that game?
A_Locomotive replied to cimerians's topic in Modern Console Discussion
One game I'll never finish is probably Xenosaga. I got almost to the end once, can't remember what I was doing or how to play when I picked it up again like a year later. I'm not sure I can sit through those movie length CG's again. -
Easy. The soundtrack to Star Fox 64. I got the CD through Nintendo Power way back when the game came out. I've long since sold all my old CDs due to changing taste in music but this is one of the few thats a constant. I'll probably never sell it. The only thing that could trump it in my eyes is if I ever manage to get a copy of the CD soundtrack for the original SNES game. After those 2 my favorites are easily the sound tracks to Bioshock 1 and 2. I got the limited edition of the 2nd game so I've got that bad boy on Vinyl.

Chronologically as in year of release, or cronologically as in the Halo universe time-line? I've thought about replaying through all the Halo games in the actual order that the games occured in; starting with Halo Wars, Halo: Reach, Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3: ODST and finally Halo 3. Chronologically as in the series time line. Halo Wars is actually the only one I've never played as I was holding out for a PC release, I can't stand RTS' on consoles. How well does it work for the 360? Its been an extremely long time since I've tried an RTS on anything but PC.

Most overrated current gen games?
A_Locomotive replied to Tickled_Pink's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Thats definitely true unfortunately. :/ But despite their best efforts the occasional gems slips through. And its those games that get my money. Everything else is lucky to be a rental at best from me. I think it depends on the type of FPS. None stop super frantic shooters I agree would get tiring if they took to long to beat. Gear of War 2 my brother and I beat in 14 and a half hours(in one sitting on launch day ) on co-op and that felt about perfect for that kind of game. But slower paced games such as the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games (IMO an amazingly fun series) can take a lot longer then that to beat if your thorough and explore everything and do all the side missions you can and for me at least I enjoyed every second of them. -

What do you mean by just let me play the game? Last year I played through all 4 in order and I absolutely loved it. I'd personally rate it as one of the best game series of all time for its fantastic story, especially the 4th one. The only thing I didn't like was how absurdly difficult beating Metal Gear Rex was in the first game, that was the only part of the game I'd call hard, took me about 10 trys to get him figured out. -
BioShock Mass Effect Dead Space Oblivion Test Drive Unlimited Quake 4 PGR3 or 4 Any of the above would be well worth the money for $20 or less.

I've played through the original 3 Halo games on legendary with my little brother probably like 5-10 times each game. They are great games, zero real learning curve so you can pretty much pick up and play any time without really having to remember where your going, any weird controls, physics or anything. Every now and then we will get on a Halo kick and plow through then in order. We just recently did all 5 games chronologically. Other then that its a tough question to answer as other then the games that are huge time pits like RPGs I've played though most of my games multiple times, no clue which ones I've played though the most.

Anyone else have the "box bug"
A_Locomotive replied to HatefulGravey's topic in Classic Console Discussion
My Lynx is the only system I've ever been focused on getting everything for it CIB. Had it, its accessories and games that it came with not all been CIB when I bought them off craigslist I'd likely not care. I'm kind of OCD like that. With my Virtual Boy I could care less if get a game in the box as nothing else I have for it is. Had I bought it in box with games in box I'd likely not even bother looking at loose carts. The same does for all my other consoles. The only time I always care is if its a CD game. I refuse to buy loose disk games as I know I'm going to want it complete eventually, recently passed on a copy of Sonic Jam for Saturn for that very reason. -

I seriously doubt thats the reason for the increasingly short amount of time play through take. Why would the publisher care if people finish their game or not? Its not like they don't get paid if someone buys their game and then quits half way through. I'd be willing to bet money the reason is more along the lines of developers trying to save money by giving us less game for the same amount of money. 6-8 hours is a ridiculously short amount of time for a modern game. I personally expect a min of 15-20+ hours otherwise I feel seriously cheated if I payed full price for a game. You are how ever spot on about the graphics vs game play thing though unfortunately. If you spend 15+ hours on each game, lesser games would be sold, harming the publishers pockets. So making a game only 6 - 8 hours, spends money on development, and increases sale on new games sold. Letting you finish a game, makes you feel good about a game, so you likely buy the next version of that game or a other game from the same publisher. I respectfully disagree. If I buy a game and beat it that quickly as far as I'm concerned it was garbage and a waste of money and as a result will be less likely to buy the sequel. I loved the first dead space but it was so short that there is no way I'm buying the sequel till its at bargin bin prices even the first one I waited till it was $20 before buying because I'd heard it was short. Where as games like Mass Effect I know I'll get my moneys worth so I will preorder the next one without even thinking about it, as I will with the next Elder Scrolls game and the next two expansions of StarCraft II. Maybe I'm not the buying norm but I've always thought this way, unless I'm damn sure I'm going to enjoy the game and get my moneys worth I won't buy it. -
