Windows 3.11 floppy disks
A_Locomotive replied to A_Locomotive's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Whats Windows for Workgroups? I didn't really expect them to be worth anything but figured I'd ask just to be sure. I'm not going to through them out or anything. I think its kind of neat to still have them. -
So I found these 6 Windows 3.11 3 1/2in floppy disks while cleaning recently and I'm curious if they are worth anything? I figured this was probably a good place to ask. The disks are numbered 1-6, is that a complete set of them?

Why bother with eBay? Why don't you list them here for sale? Because I'm not sure people on an Atari forum would be terribly interested in my vintage Lego sets. I'm selling an old electric Lego Train, can't remember what the set is called and an M-Tron Mega Core Magnetizer.

Most overrated current gen games?
A_Locomotive replied to Tickled_Pink's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I felt the same way. I got about half way through before my eyes started to glaze over. Totally agree on Assassins Creed, completely disagree on Halo though. Great story and a fun single player campaign that reminded me a lot of the first one. Multiplayer has been pretty addicting too. I kind of have mixed feelings on GTAIV because even though I had a ton of fun playing it, since I've taken a break from it I've had no motivation to go back and finish it. I totally disagree on Halo as well. The series get major props in my eyes for having single system co-op. My brother and I have played through each game on legendary countless times and it never gets boring. Sure the last two, ODST and Reach where disappointingly short but they are still plenty fun. -
Local store going nuts with pricing?
A_Locomotive replied to SlowCoder's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Its funny looking at those prices they don't look to bad to me, then again the 3 local retro gaming stores research what they sell so getting a good deal from them is extremely unlikely. 2 of them are usually pretty fair and only a little more then online prices. The other... I don't know how they stay in business. They over price everything they sell to an extreme degree. Want a copy of Secret of Mana for SNES? They have loose copies they'll be glad to sell you for $100. Want a beat up, though CIB, Genesis 3? $300. The only reason I ever go there is to look around and jog my memory of games I want to get that I may have forgotten the title of, as they do have a massive selection that covers every inch of the store and hits on all the major consoles from NES to present. But its a wonder how they stay in business seeing as they have zero customer service skills and most of the time the owner won't even bother to get up from building/painting his little Warhammer 50K figures to answer questions. So any who from my perspective those prices don't look to bad lol. Sorry about that little rant. lol -
Thanks for all the great game suggestions. I just ordered Shadow of the Beast, Todd's Adventure in Slimeworld, Klax, Toki and Viking Child. The ebay seller had a bunch more I wanted but those were at the top of my list as far as what I think I'd enjoy most. If the items I'm about to post on ebay sell for a decent price I'm planning on checking out Zaku next.

Have you checked out the remixes here? http://ocremix.org They have tons of game music remixes, I highly recommend downloading the torrent packs that have all the remixes, a good majority of them are fantastic with only a few stinkers among them. There is quite a bit from Mega Man as well though not sure if any of it suits what your looking for. http://ocremix.org/quicksearch/game/?qs_query=mega+man

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
A_Locomotive replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Flee markets are awesome of old games and consoles. The local one I go to I regularly see all sorts of stuff. Last time I went I saw an Odyssey 2 and an Atari Jaguar plus the usual slew of NES and SNES games and consoles. I'd have loved to pick up the Jag but the guy was insane and wanted $800 for it!!! -
Consoles you bought for one particular game
A_Locomotive replied to mbd30's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I originally got my Game Boy Color when I was a kid specifically so I could play the The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons. Other then that there isn't a single console I think I'd ever buy for one game. :edit: No wait, I take that back, I initially bought my Wii just for Twilight Princess. -
The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
A_Locomotive replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I agree, I can't say I've ever found ANYTHING in my thrift stores. No consoles, games, not even controllers I think there is also a lot of luck involved. More often then not I see absolutely nothing worth buying video game wise at thrift store but occasionally I'll see some real gems. I found my Virtual Boy at a thrift store as well as my Sega Saturn. Those have been the only major finds I've ever bought or seen in years. But in the past I've seen things for sale that I really kick myself now for not buying at the time. A couple of years ago I saw a boxed 7800, I didn't know anything about it at the time nor was I really interested in old consoles either. I looked it over, thought to myself "neat" then stupidly walked away The system had a bunch of games with it and I believe it was complete, if I remember correctly the store only wanted like $20 for it. :/ I've also at various times seen 2600's various Sega systems and I'm sure other things I should have snatched up. -
Mine did that once. I just popped the batteries out and put them back in and it worked fine. Is your Lynx working fine with batteries now?
-
The Lynx II IMO beats Game Gear on Ergonomics, it just doesn't feel as right in your hands as a Lynx does and the large D-pad is more comfortable to use as well since its more recessed and rounded. The only area I think the Game Gear wins is with its huge library of titles. I'm sure there are a ton of duds like with any popular system but its got a lot of gems as well. All the Sonic games are gold and Ecco the Dolphin is loads of fun. But I'm really loving my Lynx so far and have so far enjoyed most of the games I own for it. Even the ones I didn't think I would like such as Robotron. It looked at first to be a little to simple of a game. But I keep finding myself reaching for its box when I bring it down to play so I've definitely developed a taste for it. Even Hydra which at first to me was unplayable I'm starting to enjoy.

Were you ever able to fix this? This is sounding a lot like the problem my brothers game gear he recently bought is having.

Sega Game Gear sound problem
A_Locomotive replied to A_Locomotive's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Any body? If not can anyone point me in the direction of an active Sega forum? -
So my brother just received a game gear off ebay he won that is in immaculate condition, zero scratches anywhere, but despite its killer condition its having an issue that conveniently was left out of the ebay listing. There is a buzzing / humming noise coming out of its speaker and the buzzing sound is there even if headphones are used. Aside from the noise the sound seemingly works perfectly, its sharp and crisp and is nice and loud. The noise can easily be drowned out by turning up the volume but its still bugging the crap out of him and on his behalf I am posting this here in the hopes of finding info on what could be wrong and if and how its possible to go about repairing it.

Hmm. I'm delaying ordering for a while so I can decided if I should just go for a large case or stick with my original plan. I do have a question about the large case though I'm hopping someone can answer for me. My question is concerning the interior. Do they all include a divider to allow you to size the interior to properly fit a Lynx II? I was looking at the ones on ebay and one of them doesn't have the(velcro attached?)divider in the section for the system. Nor does the divider appear on the back of the box for the one that is selling brand new in the box. No divider shown http://www.myatari.com/ebay/lkitb.jpg This one has one. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 250775671571 This one doesn't. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 230585786352 :edit: Never mind just got my answer about the boxed one from the people selling it on ebay.

got any label pix? Haha yeah sorry, slipped my mind that people might be curious what was different about the label. I included a photo of a real cart of easy comparison. You can see that the real one doesn't have the little seal advertising the bonus dungeon and that its label is gold as opposed to my copies yellow. The ESRB mark is also a lot smaller and the little red Nintendo logo is on the wrong side. Yeah I know but I've seen more extreme factory errors then this so I didn't rule it out as a possibility that one got through with the wrong color casing. I had a CD once that had the artwork from a different band printed on the disc but still had all the correct music of the band it was supposed to have. I mentioned this GBC pirate seeing as the OP's thread was started asking about a GBC game.
-
Funny thing is I just recently discovered my copy of Links Awakening DX was a pirate copy and confirmed it just a few minutes ago by opening it up and having a look. I always thought it must have been either a factory error since it had a non black casing or possibly a later production run or something. But nope its a pirate copy. I'd have never known had someone on Planet Virtual Boy not pointed out the label was totally different to me. Its battery actually works perfectly and its been working fine since I got it so maybe I just lucked out and got one with a decent battery in it. So anyway I opened up my cartridge and compared it to my copy of Tetris DX and what to do you know completely different PCB, chips, battery and the fact that its not a terrible solder job compared to the Tetris cart. There are a number of things I noticed in looking it over. For one the contacts are a completely different color then those on all my other GBC carts. The screw hole on the back is much smaller and has a sharp edge rather then the curved one of a regular cart. The screw is much shorter and has a pointed end instead of a flat one. The cart doesn't slide open easily like a genuine one and has to pop open due to the oversize battery. Another thing I noticed is a small recessed rectangle on the inside of the cart opening opposite of the contacts, in it is a letter and number, the pirate cart doesn't have this. and the last thing I noticed is the cart doesn't have that slight rattle all other GB carts have. Its a shame they didn't make all GBC carts clear like they did with the Zelda Oracle games and later GBC games, it would make spotting fakes quite a bit easier as you'd be able to see the differences just by looking through the casing.

Don't really want a PSP in any form. Borrowed one once and while it was fun it just didn't feel like it would be worth the money. As for the 3DS, I love the idea. But I think I'll stick to my Virtual Boy and regular DS till there is a price drop.

I Have Never Been So Pissed in My Days Of Buying On Ebay
A_Locomotive replied to atari181's topic in Auction Central
For an item where being boxed is part of the value that would be an insanely stupid thing for the seller to do. I once sold a lego monorail on ebay and a good chuck of its value came from it still having the complete box. To ship it there wasn't any premade boxes I could find that were remotely big enough so I ended up hand making a custom box to ship it in. It was absolutely enormous with about 3-6 inches of packing peanuts on every side of the box. It was very expensive to ship but the buyer was more then willing to pay what it cost. -
Neither of mine have died and I bought both the first day they were available so seeing as my copies are both pretty much as old as its possible for these games to be I think you don't need to really worry to much about it. I've only ever experienced any problems with one game and thats my copy of Tetris DX which I've played probably more then any game in my collection by a massive margin(I average like 3-4 hours a week over the last 10 years ) and its only just recently been having trouble, lost all of my high scores last night actually.

If you haven't already done so do yourself a huge favor and buy Bonk's Adventure. I played the hell out of that game on my buddies TurboGrafx-16 as a kid, recently bought it on virtual console for the Wii, its aged very well and is still a blast!
