  1. ahh, but i don`t have any PS2 controllers... so it would end up being more expensive
  2. I`m looking for a good PC gamepad to play some roms, since my old side winder isn`t supported in the gameport style in XP. So i'm looking for something that has a good digital pad, responive buttons, and enough buttons for SNES games, and possibly more than that. Price range is up to about $25 or maybe $30. I`m ordering some stuff from newegg.com, so if at all possible, thats where i`d like to order the game pad as well. Thansk for any help!!
  3. I played Metroid Prime 2 for about 4 or 5 hours a day, for about 3 days straight. i fell asleep the one morning i was playing, the second i think, and started seeing everything through a scan visor. Then for the next couple days, i kept thinking i actually saw things in a blue, red, or green hue. very trippy. I also was going on about 4 hours sleep every day around thanksgiving when i played, so that could all be part of it.
  4. i just mean porting really. maybe with a color coded map like ZM and Fusion. They could always throw in the power grip or chargeable missels. Ahh.. Super Metroid... Speaking of that. Does there happen to be a SNES emulator for the GBA? cause i would love to take that game with me.
  5. Ahh righto there, guess i forgot the whole Metroid 3 in the opening sequence. I guess it could be possible that it isn`t the same Ridley through all the games, maybe a clone, or repaired, or a completely different entity. Even though that would be a crappy way out of it. I really hope Nintendo remakes Metroid 2 and Metroid 3 at some point. And in 2D. I loved how Zero Mission explained where the wrecked ship in 3 came from. Simply awesome. I got the impression that quite alot of time passed in between Metroid 3 and 4, maybe it`s just the long wait between the games
  6. I never played Prime before, except for the opening several times. but i watched my cousin go through the battle with Meta-Ridley, and if i`m not mistaken, wasn`t he made by the space pirates that time from left over biological parts? Anyway, i think the reason you fight him in Metroid 3 is because it was essentially just a remake of the original with some added stuff. Before they had developed the story that much. Kind of like how all the early Zelda's had the exact same story, and it`s impossible to tell which one came first in the timeline just about. Still doesn`t explain the frozen Ridley in Metroid 4 though. But, back to the topic. I really like one of the enemies i`m fighting now, it reminds me of the Psycho Mantis fight in Metal Gear Solid. Even with the Prime series, and it coming to a portable, i still hope a new side scroller is made, because thats still my favorite style of Metroid
  7. That was Metroid Fusion for the GBA, were you acquire Metroid DNA. and if i`m not mistaken, it`s actually your metroid pal from Metroid 2: Return of Samus for the gameboy, the same one who also saved you in the end of Super Metroid. If you haven`t tried Fusion, you really should. In my opinion it is a few steps below Super Metroid, my personal favorite of the series, and slightly better than Zero Mission. The bright colors threw me at first, but i started to notice how much more detailed it was. Since spoilers are pretty much a given, then here goes: the item you get in Prime 2 that is unidentified, U-Mos explains it in one of his early speaches as the energy transfering device. I just started the last area of the game, which i`ll still have to collect everything and find some keys apparently after i`m done with this place. I think i have a little over 70% scanned, and 30-40% of items. I think i`ll have to pick up the original Prime once i`m done with this one, since i somehow never got around to it.
  8. ahh, i never saw that option. time to try that demo again. now that i have a new 16ms response time LCD monitor to try it out with!
  9. i have pretty large hands, but still prefer the smaller X-box controller and the SP over the original counterparts, guess i`m just odd. I really like the whole look of it, which i didn`t at first. and i never used headphones much, so i don`t mind the lack of built in, but i can see how it could cause some problems. I`m amazed at how durable this little systems are. heck, all of the gameboys and consoles. i`ve dropped several gameboys in every manner availible, still keeps working
  10. wow Zylon, you won this topic's smart-ass award as far as i`m concerned. Anyway. I`m still amazed at Metroid. Going to have to find a way to get one of these. My brother actually said that he still noticed the lack of an analog stick. It would still be pretty complex to play on a handheld with an analog stick. i like the idea of almost limitless amount of functions with a menu based touch screen, and using it for movement aswell
  11. i was never that interested in farcry. i played the demo and thought the AI was pityful. And i didn`t have a good computer back then to run it, doubt that would change the effect a rock to an enemies head would have on their reactions though. I did play the demo again recently to bench mark my new computer i built. Still not all that impressed. Is the retail version better with in regards to AI?
  12. i agree that it was somewhat linear, but it almost has to be to tell a convincing story. I`m playing Metroid Prime 2 right now, and though it is not linear at all, you have to find the story yourself. you could play through not knowing a thing, but HL2 forces you to hear things and see things. Imagine being able to skip parts of the story. it would disasterious. I noticed some draw in on the coast. nothing to bad though. in fact, it was only in one part i was bothered by it. And why do people have such a problem with steam?? if you really need that extra 12 MB of ram, then i think you should splurge on a little more memory. And it is not the same as spyware or adware, because it does not report your usage or any other information. it only acts as a resident service, like virus shield. After you register with it once, you can always play in offline mode from then on out. And Vavle will address any issues with HL2. They did with HL1. It`s been 5 years in the making, so they should have got everything right. but blame vivendi for accepting the release candidate if anything. And the reasons review copies weren`t sent out is becuase thats one of the first ways pirates get their hands on software is reviewers who leak it. I finsihed it yesterday. The ending was good i thought, and i think people are assuming way to much about what happens. I think Vavle has everything planned out pretty well. Halo 3 has just dropped off my most wanted list.
  13. you don`t have to log on to steam just to play. you can choose to stay in offline mode. And heck, what company has supported a game for as long as valve has? i think it`s worth logging on with everything they have done to keep the game up to date. @Albert: I was having that same problem with some other games, and it turned out to be the graphics settings in my card setup in catalyst control center. I messed with those, and it works fine now. and how much RAM do you have? load times have been pretty good for me, using 1 gig of regular crucial memory. Loading seems to be about the same as HL1, but i also played it two years after it came out, so i had a system past the recommended, so i didn`t notice it that much. i am pretty far along with the airboat section. I have to say the physics are still just as amazing. for example, combine soldiers were running onto docks 15 feet above me as i raced down a dry riverbed, and i was able to steer and knock out the supports and make the dock collapse, sending them into the toxic remains of the river, which they didn`t live to see. And i love blowing up the fuel barrels, and tricking the barnacles with world objects and using fuel barrels to blow groups of them away. i love those fuel barrels...
  14. i was amazed. with my system i was able to run with everything on the highest, except reflections are on medium, at 1024 by 768, no v-sync or AA, and still got amazing frame rates. Never had any slow down. the load times aren`t that bad either. but the game, it`s has to be seen to be believe. It really does feel like a movie. from the the first time you see the city skyline to talking to your new allies, it all looks and feels very cinematic. The characters have some of the best models i`ve ever seen, and are voiced perfectly. Everyone should try this game.
  15. oh, and i forgot. After you register, you can play Half-Life 2 via steam in offline mode, meaning you never have to be connected again.
  16. you all have obvisouly not readthat much about steam. Yes, you must register one time. then t is tied to your account. you can unregister a computer at any time. And if you have to upgrade something on your pc, it won`t be a problem, you can just reinstall with your log in. and if Valve ever did go under, they would just release a patch to unlock it, like how the made the original HL playable with steam, it`s all meant to fixable on the fly. So before you swear off buying HL2, do some research.
  17. downloaded. I got an ATI card and it came with it, and if i didn`t download it, it would take about 4 weeks after the release for me to get it. No way i`m waiting that long. And this way, Valve gets more money, and less money for the demonic Vivendi
  18. beat the game friday morning, on normal. started through on legendary that night. just got past the dang boarding craft parts on the cairo. That was freakin insane. But it`s not as hard as i thought it was going to be after that. AI is just awesome, the drones are almost impossible when they swarm. The ending was good i thought, like the empire strikes back. I didn`t get why their were no new warthogs, i really liked the snow adapted one. Still haven`t tried multiplayer yet, everyone was to busy playing single player to have a big lan party this weekend, so it`ll have to be next week instead. After legendary i think i`ll try out the free 2 months of live, provided Half-Life 2 doesn`t take up all of my gaming time..
  19. i got home around 1:45 last night and hooked up my new X-Box and played until 2:30 without even realizing i had spent any time at all. The reason i liked halo is that everything clicked and felt amazingly polished. this time, it's even more so. I was amazed at some of the things that happened during the game, things that i applaud Bungie for doing that aren't common. Dual wielding is awesome, i love breaking the Elite's sheild with a few plasma rifle rounds, and then mowing them down with the SMG. i have to say the Battle Riffle is a bit disappointing, but the other new weapons make up for it. I think that the way they make you drop the weapon is just fine really, cause you wouldn't really be able to easily switch the weapons you are holding. You can always just pick up what you dropped. I would love to talk about some of the developements later on in the early part of the game, but i don't want to spoil it for anyone. But, i was impressed. This is going to do well to tide me over until Half-Life 2 next tuesday.
  20. i have downloaded music and games before, many times, and still do. but i also spend the same amount of money, if not more, on games and cds as i ever have before. These people are seeing this as an alternative to buying, not an attempt to avoid being shafted by a crappy game company or band. Take for instance when i got Mission Impossible for the N64. $50, and it turned out to be one ofthe crappiest games i ever played. i couldn`t return it because it was opened. now if i had been able to rent it, which none of the rental places had it at the time, i would have decided not to buy it. I donwloaded a rom of a game, and really liked it, so i searched for a copy, and it happened to be an import. so i paid close to $90 dollars for a converter and the game. Would i have ever decided it was worth it without that rom? probably not. I Tunes is the greatest thing now, i only ever download songs when they aren`t on there for purchase, or i can`t find the cd or single and hate the rest of the songs on the album. I didn`t buy cds until i was about 15. and now, a significant portion of my paycheck goes towards them. and i was a big napster user. I would NOT group people who pirate as a single type of person. Some are just tired of wasting money on crappy products and don`t see a good alternative
  21. it`s really starting to get on my nerves how many times people get shot down for liking a particular system around here, can`t ever say "I just don`t think the ***** is better than the *****" without having a debate over market share, oringinality, or how due to current decisions about why EVERYONE should love the same console or handheld as you. Who freakin cares if the use the second screen for a map? how many PSX games didn`t use the right thumbstick? the point is that for some games a map would be very handy. the whole reason why i never use one in any pc games is cause it`s typically an overlay and extremely difficult to see around. Anyway, on to my point. With Halo 2 and HL2 coming out, i`m probably going to wait on getting my DS, but i still want one alot. i thought i heard something about a "thumb stylus"? If it`s what i`m thinking it is, it would be great for Metroid. and the control flip sounds awesome!!
  22. i don`t think when anyone says "Halo Killer" the mean it`ll remove every trace of the series or anything like that. Unreal was called a quake killer. And in a alot of ways it did that, Quake 3 is not as popular as UT, and ID has had as much pressure to release a sequel either. i have more examples that i can`t think of...
  23. i would give Live a shot at some point, maybe if i get a two month subscription or something. but i really cannot stand paying in addition to my internet fees. And the real reason i play online is because there is a dynamic of having real people to play against, and also it feels better to get a high rank at the end of the game. i`m not really thrilled about internet multiplayer for Halo 2, so outside of some LAN parties with my friends, i'll probably just play single player. And i just haven't seen any other games that i thought looked that great. MAYBE if the new Banjo Kazooie game is as good as the first one, i`ll get that, but there just is nothing else that interests me
  24. ahh ok. well, unless live becomes free, i prolly will never use it. i was think of using that free online thing, where it emulates a system link network over the internet. is something X Connect? i don`t remember really
  25. i don`t really care for console based internet multiplayer. i think it`s a nifty idea, but i`m not willing to pay for it. the reason i like playing on a pc is due to all the mods that come out, and you have more of a sense of community in less popular games. And i don't think all the many good games go away with no one availible to play again. Take Battlezone 1 and 2 for example, both had a very small following all along, but there are still a bunch of people around to play it. and System Shock 2 was also pretty small, and still people are online in matchmaking forums. my real issue is that the real joy i get from playing multiplayer is having everyone sitting around a tv or two, shouting insults back and forth and coming up with strategies in between shouting. and i really love PC LAN parties, for the same reason. Online is nice, for console and pc, but having that interaction of being in the same place is just better for me.
