Why boulderdash 2600 works fine on stella, but won't on harmony?
-
Why does it not work with harmony cart?
-
I also see the 5200 as the commodore 64 of the time, great ,but big pixels in graphics, legendary games And the coleco as the spectrum, more defined/less colorfull graphics and less big name games

Atari 5200 my dream system! Colecovision , close but no cigar

is there a chance of seing Tempest 5200 finished?

So to run the game in this "development mode" You have to flash the cart with this only game, right? Then that way you can have partial 512k access? Are more bios upgrades due for harmony? Well, the 32k isn't quite the whole story. Harmony has two chips, one with 32k and another with 512k. The 512k is indirectly-addressable memory so we don't usually count it, and this can only be used for storage, not code execution. Chetiry stores music data here, and as such it does run on Harmony hardware in development mode (though not yet in multicart mode - we need to revise the BIOS to allow for that.) The simple explanation is that Melody was designed first and Harmony was built from it. The 128k flash chips are expensive. The lowest-end version (128k flash/16k RAM) will roughly double the cost of a Melody board. The 128k chips are also slower and wouldn't work for advanced bankswitching (like DPC/DPC+/Supercharger) which strongly influenced the decision not to use them in Harmony. However, they are suitable for special projects that require more than 32k, are using more standard forms of bankswitching, and could afford a premium price point. There may be a game coming out sooner or later that does use this chip, but as mentioned, it's not Chetiry.

well BoB i always thought you `re a terrific programmer as a person... ...you`re a terrific programmer...

AtariAge store down news section practically down too wonder what`s going on... the forums are as active as ever though

It's probably the 16K RAM that's the problem rather than cart space as the program uses double buffering for the screen and so on. It might be less effort to just get an 800XL or XEGS to complement your 5200 (if you don't already have one, it will open up a whole new world of Atari 8 bit excitement for you ) Oops, maybe it is possible for Project M, I thought I was replying to your similar comment about 5200 in the Space Harrier thread - too many late nights coding recently Regards, Simon

oh always thought 16k was the limit, then bankswitching As I recall, the 5200 cart port supports up to 32k. Could a custom cart be made, providing 16K RAM (possibly banked for more) and 16K ROM (also banked for more). That is, for example, a 128K SRAM with a toggle between 8 16K banks, plus a 16K ROM space with 8K fixed / 15x 8K banks toggleable? That would be suspiciously like the interior of an XE...

you don`t know what you are talking about maybe contacting steve...

you clearly don`t know me... yet keep on judging maybe i should talk to your wife You told bob to get a life, and then the mods removed your post. and in this thread you just told batari that the deluxe Harmony was "no deluxe at all" and crassly compared it to other products it has nothing to do with. I own two Harmonys, and was the first person to ask about the possibility of the H2 a long, long time ago. And your point is what? That you get to call btari's products "not deluxe enough" because you ordered 5-10 to resell to people in Argentina at some ridiculously astronomical markup price? How much profit did you turn on reselling them, and not share with batari? $800, maybe $1,000 pesos? Christ, they charge $6,000.00 pesos for a retail Sony PSP down there, when the exchange rate is only 3.5 to 1. (for those counting at home, that's a 1,000% markup.)

2 Harmony carts?! all for yourself ? and you were the First to ask for Harmony 2!! how`s that for support... You told bob to get a life, and then the mods removed your post. and in this thread you just told batari that the deluxe Harmony was "no deluxe at all" and crassly compared it to other products it has nothing to do with. I own two Harmonys, and was the first person to ask about the possibility of the H2 a long, long time ago.

sorry to hear that... it would have been amazing, (maybe streaming memory from sd) i own several Atari 8bits and Myide flash interface w/512mb flash key from Atarimax though you can`t keep them all plugged at once and i really love the huge 5200! It's probably the 16K RAM that's the problem rather than cart space as the program uses double buffering for the screen and so on. It might be less effort to just get an 800XL or XEGS to complement your 5200 (if you don't already have one, it will open up a whole new world of Atari 8 bit excitement for you ) Cheers, Simon

the mods removed Bob`s post because he called me asshole and i wish people like you support Batari`s projects half the way i had You told bob to get a life, and then the mods removed your post. and in this thread you just told batari that the deluxe Harmony was "no deluxe at all" and crassly compared it to other products it has nothing to do with.

generally i won`treally care for boxes ,labels, cases etc but if you release a higher priced "deluxe" version then it all starts to come to mind... Yes, I know who you are... You ordered so many Harmony carts I lost count And yes, you're not the only one who didn't like the 32k limit - some of the Harmony developers also felt constrained. The reason for the 32k chip was so that Melody boards would be inexpensive enough to be feasible. Yes, there were larger chips available but they would have cost too much for Melody. I felt it was important to use the same chip in Melody and Harmony to ensure that any game developed on a Harmony could be released on a cart. There will be no "7800 Melody" so we can use a far more expensive (and capable) chip here. There will also be a much bigger difference between standard and deluxe H2. I'm not yet ready to divulge all of the details yet but will in time. It sounds like you'd like a different label on the Deluxe as well (that's a good idea and I will consider that.)

you don`t know me , so stop judging I`m living in Argentina now, so that makes me rude? i told you Bob insulted me and i never replied, and was never rude to Batari! pd: maybe divorce is your way out... Now it all makes perfect sense. No, I meant now I understand why you're being so rude to people like Bob and batari who've worked their asses off to produce quality products. It's because you're from Argentina. I should know, my wife is from Argentina and almost all of her family is the same way. Always offering up unwanted opinions, delivered in the most rude manner possible.

well i find the blue access led in my Atarimax`s carts very useful by the way, many times i thought my atari was freezing, when indeed it was readind many files/directories Well, not everyone wants more features. I think the Harmony cart is absolutely PERFECT the way it is. It's an excellent balance of features and cost. I see no need for LEDs and extra crap that would increase complexity and therefore cost. Seeing as how it plays everything I've tried, I'm not sure what's missing. If it's LEDs I'm after, I see you can buy shoes that have blinking LEDs in them - little kids wear them around here. I am also a big fan of the Atarimax products, I should say. I'm glad they're both available, even though they're not the same thing.

i totally respect your opinion! but the higher priced Harmony version was not that much better, with only a cable for that price Well, not everyone wants more features. so what? you never know for how long that kind of product will remain available it happened with many chad schell's products in the past i try to never repeat mistakes... Now it all makes perfect sense.

how "heavy" is lode runner on the A8? I second that one. Lode Runner's one of the best games ever made (and no that NES version doesn't cut it). CT gathering would be great. Especially now that we've figured out what was going on with 4 player mode in Castle Crisis. I'm surprised there aren't more replies to this thread yet. 855968[/snapback] Years ago I played Loderunner for weeks until finally I had a nightmare about so I had to stop for a while. I wonder how many screens you could fit on a 512K cart. What would be cool is to have everybody designs screens for it and but them all on the cart. Lodarunner screens are easy to design and a screen editor is included with the disc versions of the game on the Atari computers. Allan

don`t get me wrong! Batari ! i`m the one who made you ship several pairs of harmony carts to Argentina to store them as spairs "just in case" (same thing with all Atarimax 's carts, wich i prefer by the way) i totally love your product, just wished it was more feature packed, regardless the price , the "deluxe" option was no luxury at all, with the same gray label and regular case and that 32k limit in the 21 st century... but then again its one of my favourite toys, well beyond many of my classic cars I agree that AtariMax products are excellent in every sense of the word (which I really can't say for "other" flash cart creators that some have suggested would come before H2.) If AtariMax made a 7800 cart, it would be a serious competitor for H2. But, I have to say that you can't really compare the (2600) Harmony with AtariMax carts. They are for different systems and Harmony costs half of what AtariMax carts do. Also, Harmony features are no indication of what H2 features will be. H2 has 16 times the memory, a much faster, more capable MCU, and the list goes on. There will be at least one feature in H2 that (to my knowledge) no other flash cart for a classic system has ever had. What's wrong with Harmony labels? But, you are right in one sense. H2 has no LEDs

M.U.L.E. runs great on my ultimate 5200 sd cart so i think its doable
-
you have to remap the bankswitching the 5200 is an 8bit atari computer with only 16k, but this can be fixed with Atarimax`s Sd cart... Hmm.. my knowledge about the 5200 is a little lacking, but.. If the only difference is to remap some addresses and with that cartridge you can have at least 64K, then it should be possible..

So there really isn't any validity to this idea at all past you wanting one. and you're the guy who insulted Bob the other day repeatedly. insulted? where did you see me insult? and there's a lot more to this "idea" than you know The post where you told him to get a life, which the moderators then removed. quite the opposite, they removed bob`s post because he insulted me i think he`s a terrific programmer, though i agree with many of you that "a box is a box...!" about THIS topic its just a question of which one comes first -i'll buy both though-
