  1. When you put all that together, you get Gidkigma!
  2. That perspective still makes sense to me-- only difference between back when I said it and now, is that I opened my eyes to the fact that the VCS is made by incompetent people who don't know how to market something or communicate adequately to their backers. They also don't have any idea what they're doing. I'm partially worried when I get this thing, it will explode after a few days of use. LOL. Having said that, I still don't feel like getting a PS4 or an Xbox One. What I actually play on today is a custom gaming PC that I built myself, and the Nintendo Switch. The PC is a tad bigger than a game console, and it has the Sega logo stenciled onto it (because I'm a huge Sega fan). I also modified the Windows installation on it so that it can switch between a "gaming mode" UI (LaunchBox/Big Box launcher) and the regular Windows 10 UI. So that's essentially my system of choice for current gaming hardware. Other than the above, I preordered two Genesis Mini's, one of which will be mine to hack and do whatever I want with. The other one, I might just keep it in the box, or give it to someone else for Christmas-- not sure yet... One thing I find kind of interesting is that the VCS will be capable of running Windows 10.... So they essentially make a stripped down version of the system I built myself.
  3. Hi there. o u o Haven't seen you guys in 30 years. What's cookin?
  4. Imagine if Atari actually sold a million of these consoles for that one purpose. xDDD
  5. We don't "want" this to fail (well, at this point maybe we do, lol). Here's my perspective on the whole situation: I was initially super excited and enthusiastic about this console. Look back at my old replies to this thread-- I defended it left and right against other people here. Now? I feel silly for backing this thing. How did I get from there to here? Because I actually approached Atari by email and through the Indiegogo comments section about developing an exclusive game for them, and they gave me literally no information. I was polite, professional and excited in my messages to them, and they pretty much gave me the same treatment as an average joe. That's fine and all, but if you're a game developer and you're specifically saying "I would like to make an exclusive game for your platform to help you out", you would think you'd get something other than a scripted response. But nope. Even today, their communication with developers has been abysmal. There STILL isn't any way to sign up to be a dev, and this thing is going to be out like 6 months from now. They've already been involved in controversy with the devs of Tempest 4000, because they initially said "Hey, we didn't make an Atari VCS port of that game..." My point here is, I'm not interested in bashing the console or the company, but they pushed me to want to. Initially I was actually really excited. Ask the others. Having said all that, I'm still moderately interested in the hardware itself, and I have ideas for ways I can make good use of it in my home. I believe it will be a fun piece of tech to play around with, especially since it can essentially be a Windows PC in a nice console-sized unit-- different from most traditional desktop PC's. This makes it easy to carry around and pack in my suitcase if I want to go on long trips or something. Just slide the VCS into my bag, hook it up to the TV in my hotel room, and bam-- I've got my entire PC connected to a nice large TV. By the way, here's another (more clear) picture of the clear-shell version of the system from Tom's Hardware below. Strangely, I don't even see a circuit board-- which is strange... Just parts. O.o The cooling system looks like it makes sense-- you've got what appears to be like a laptop-style CPU fan, and it blows the heat out the back vents. That's exactly how my laptop works, so that looks good.. It also looks like there's an M.2 slot in the front there, which would actually be a great feature to make up for the abysmal onboard 32 GB of eMMC. Though you would have to provide the storage yourself, which sucks.
  6. Yup, I totally can get behind what you're saying here. I partially regret deciding to pull support away from this thing as a developer, but that was their fuck-up-- not mine.
  7. Exactly my thoughts. That is all stuff they should have been sharing with us Indiegogo backers. They blew it though, and now it's sort of "too little too late". I think this could be an interesting collectors' item for Atari hardware, but nothing more than that frankly. I'll fucking puke my brains out of astonishment if this thing actually succeeds at some level.
  8. Well, apparently the VCS will run Windows 10. I guess that could be the ARM version, but it's interesting nonetheless. Specs-wise, it seems like a decent little system. Aesthetics-wise, it's pretty awesome actually. My major gripe with this (and why I feel it's destined to fail) is the piss-poor communication mainly. I'm no longer making an exclusive game for this thing because of that reason alone-- the company behind the project burnt me as a developer. They also STILL have not established how and where developers sign up to make games for the system. They're simply giving us no information whatsoever. Reminds me of when Sega unexpectedly released the Saturn at E3 and developers got really pissed off at them for it.
  9. Wait a second..... IS THAT ACTUAL FOOTAGE OF THE SYSTEM IN ACTION?
  10. I'm surprised nobody pointed this out yet:
  11. Hey guys. o u o Long time no see. I've been playing Team Sonic racing, enjoying my official Sega-branded controllers by Retro-Bit and salivating over the Genesis Mini game announcements. Oh, and i gots a Sonic toaster. HAH! 8D
  12. Well I will admit, they've been releasing more updates....... Would be nice if they released video blogs though like I had been suggesting. xP
  13. What the hell is a "Point of Sale" system? I've never even heard of that.
  14. Damn asshats. They originally had a date for mid-April sometime. Nobody can make a plan and stick to that plan. Lol.
  15. Hey, so any updates on that lawsuit? o w o
  16. I can see eventually there will be only 3 people posting in the comments section: James Joseph Sullivan, Martial Daviaud, and John Phelan. o u o

I think it's neat to see the old-style packaging at modern retail. That's one area these things have the Analogue FPGA boxes beat.

Same here! I love that they recreated the authentic theming of the original packaging. They did that with the Retro-Bit controllers too.

One thing I'm curious about-- how did Sega get the infrastructure for all this? They've been a software company, so I'm surprised they got the facilities to manufacture physical hardware like that again. Unless it's a third party we don't know about yet (M2 is only doing the software)

Sega still manufactures arcade hardware, so I imagine they just carved out some bandwidth from those operations for this project.

  18. Hey guys.... I'm back after having a Segasm this past week... x u x;; LOL! What the hell dude...... XDDD Hehehahh/eh////......heh.....hah.h.heh...........
  19. If anything, the VCS will be a curious piece of Atari's history, and probably forgotten. Not sure how desirable it will be by collectors. The casing is probably going to be the most incentive one has to collect it. Now on the flipside, Sega is making their own mini console, and that is actually getting released! I'm freaking excited. X3
  20. Oh hey, look... a rendering of a motherboard: Also, is that an M.2 SSD on the left? If so, THAT would be nice. Upgradeable internal storage. On the right it looks like they've already got the APU and RAM chips laid out where they're going to go. Sorry, I know I'm supposed to be ragging on Atari. When it comes to tech in general I'm automatically fascinated by it. Lol.
  21. Yeah.. While it's nice to see two updates in one month like that, realistically all they shared were computer renders. I would've preferred a video posted (like I've been wanting for months). Obviously they still haven't even finalized the casing design. At this point in time, I still have much more excitement towards Sega, especially considering that SegaFES is tonight, and DUDE..... MORE DETAILS ON THE IN-HOUSE DEVELOPED GENESIS MINI!!!!!!!!!! HELL YEHEH!
  22. Holy shit, this has to be a record for them. Shortest time span between two consecutive updates. Also, its actually about the damn console. While the update certainly didnt make matters worse for them, i still wish they'd actually show us more about the OS, or make a video. Those are just renders.
  23. LOL! Yeah X3 But yeah, Europeans got screwed with their t-shirt orders. I didn't get any extra customs charges for that, it was just like $30 straight up. Still though, that really should've been free. I was just testing them to see if they'd actually keep that promise in delivering something smaller. Miraculously they in fact did.
  24. XDDD Thanks! Yeah, I get pretty bored at work. o u o
