OMG, 8-TRACKS! I love those things! 😄 I have 3 working players and 80 tapes >:D
-
Well.... uh.... I have memories of getting my VHS copy of Flubber jammed in my 13-inch TV/VCR combo unit, then my dad had to take the TV apart to get the tape out. o u o Also I remember when you had video stores, and you could rent entire consoles for a weekend. Hehe. And Pow-pow-power wheels and Tyco Video Cam were awesome... and Beetlejuice and Rugrats and Ren & Stimpy..... and.... and.... o u o lul.

I shall make it there too eventually. > w <

omfg xDDD!!!!!! My bad. LOL! EDIT: Well, he might be 50 by the time the VCS actually gets delivered to him. o u o
-
I love how I just arbitrarily mentioned a "50-year old guy", and John is actually 50 (judging by his username, assuming that is his birth year). xD
-
LOL! No offense meant by my comment. > u < I have a couple friends my age actually who are not computer-savvy at all.
-
I can only imagine some 50 year old guy that's completely computer IL-literate that backed the VCS. He will open the box, be wowed by the appearance of it. He'll get all excited and hook it up to the TV. He's going to turn the system on, see a nice little Atari boot screen, and then it will drop him into a Linux/Ubuntu desktop environment. He'll be like "huh? o.o;;" and try moving the joystick around to make something happen on-screen. The joystick won't respond, because the system is technically waiting for mouse/keyboard inputs instead. Then the guy will get pissed off and start mashing buttons angrily. Then he'll assume the system is broken and send it back to Atari for a refund. xD As for me? Well, I'll have fun with it because I actually really like Linux. ^u^ But yeah, it will suck for those that just want to play some games from their youth.

Yeahhh...... I highly doubt any of the UI menus we saw actually exist in any form. Sucks, because I actually particularly really liked the layout. If it was implemented, it would work really well I imagine. I could actually probably recreate something similar to it in Game Maker Studio 2, compile it, then replace explorer.exe with the executeable file of the menu I made, so it would actually fire up when the system boots up. LOL. That's basically what I did to make my custom built "Sega console" use LaunchBox as a UI. It's not hard to do in Windows. Also, for the record-- as much as the Ouya sucked ass, it actually made it to retail and it was a real product with its own UI. They had like $8 million, and you can tell they made good use of it. It just needed quite a few more bug fixes, then it could've been stellar.
-
Sad, but true. The thing that pains me about all this is, why not just make a good product that everyone likes? If they did, hell-- they'd be making way more than $3 million. Why even do this project if none of them give a shit about it? If you don't care about something, of course you'll half-ass it. LOL It's not rocket science. Most sane people would only want to pay for quality products. If you put out a product that's shitty, you're going to end up losing money-- simple as that.

You know what's funny about all this? I remember reading a recent article a couple months ago about the Sega Saturn, and it was an interview with a japanese ex-Sega employee that worked on the system (don't remember the guy's name). But he said something along the lines of, "it costs about $500 million to launch a game console". So yeah, that's something to think about when you look at Atari's situation here......... think they have $500 million? LOL! On a side note though, I'm actually kinda curious how much it cost Sega to do the Genesis Mini.

How about a speakerhat with that on it? And every time you turn it on, it says that phrase in a robotic voice very quickly. o u o
-
I saw that video XDDD You know what's ironic? Driv3r was actually one of my favorite PS2 games, simply because of how fucking crazy Survival mode is. LOL! I recommend that game specifically for that mode, because it's just way too funny to pass up xD

We really shouldn't be discussing tacos on this thread, but potatos! o u o
-
Wait a minute-- I've got a BETTER idea..... How about fire the social media team? Lol.
-
Wow, that's just sad dude... I have a feeling Atari will be able to fulfill backer orders (and possibly any orders placed via GameStop and Walmart), but after that they'll pretty much go bankrupt and have to cease production. Even with that prediction, I'm not actually fully confident I'll get my order.
-
It's admittedly pretty neat looking at the pictures of the molding process of how it's made. Anybody know which Linux distribution that is in the picture where they're running GParted? Also, you know what will be freakin great? Visiting this topic on the VCS itself. xD
-
Is that literally what they said? Wait a fuck.... I have to see that... oh gawd-- (checks article) EDIT: Yup... the article actually says that... LOL... Alright, well, looking at everything else-- I stand by what I've been saying: The hardware is going to be a lot of fun to play with, but there's no way this will ever be a viable game console against the big 3. Die-hard Atari enthusiasts who are also well-versed in computer hardware will probably get the most enjoyment out of this machine. In other words, an extremely niche audience.
-
Only one problem-- the GameCube apparently has more RAM xD That is unless of course the RAM chips are on the back...
-
Thanks for the feedback dude! :3 Yeah, I agree that my Atari 2600 games are probably not the best to showcase. I really just felt like I needed content for the website, and that's what I had. Lol. And yes, they were done in Visual bB. ;o
-
Sure! The game is called Ballzerk. :3 Here's the link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ballzerk/id1381234873 My other Atari games are at www.megatoxic.com (thats my site). I did all of it myself really.
-
I actually made a bunch of Atari 2600 games that you can find in my signature there, and I also made a smartphone game for Android/iOS. Game dev is mainly a hobby of mine, I don't do it full-time (though I'd love to XD). o u o
-
Lol, omg.... That's the guy that apparently replied to a comment I left under Atari's latest post. I wasn't really trying to attack Atari, but I laid the law down and said I wasn't designing a game for their console anymore. I never got to read his response to me because apparently it was removed before I saw the notification. LOL! xD
-
Lol, Fred has no neck in that picture. XD
-
I have a strange feeling you hit the nail on the head there-- I also don't believe they have a functional OS yet. Personally I actually always liked the look and layout of the mock-up GUI they showed off, even if it was fake/just a mock-up:
-
....... Or will they? o u o Maybe not, after all the tax expenses, the lawsuit with Feargal, etc. Heh.
