  1. are the carts expensive for the arcadia 2001? theres a shop in my area that has a few titles in the box for around 5 bucks i believe. :ponder:

Hi, Vic. I'd love to know the name of the store if it's handy. I think the games are generally pretty inexpensive, but I liked that the ones in this lot are sealed.

I also do auto deny but not auto accept. eBay gives you three "offers" before you don't get to offer anymore, I believe, so you can't keep creeping up toward the threshold.

Yep, It's Game Craze. They're pretty big in my Upstate NY Area, ALOT of old school stuff. I didn't even see the sealed games in that lot, great grab!

  2. More Stuff-

1050 Disk Drive, NOT WORKING. Light comes on, but nobodies home :( . Price of shipping takes it.

Random Pile of manuals and floppies- these are the floppies I could not get working, about 9 or 10 discs. price of shipping takes em.

Random modem Stuff, xm301, Axiom printer interface, operators manual for business telecom, taking offers, open to price of shipping if no one is interested.

Atari 800 system in the box with power supply and RF switch box. RF switch box has the Coax pulled off, but I'm sure any one who's interested has access to an RF plug.

As for the Computer itself, it's got some problems. The Keyboard is mostly NOT working. about 3 or 4 buttons work, S,3,ESC, ETC. the function buttons work, and it does play games, so if your only interested in playing carts, this should work. Taking offers, Please don't be afraid to shoot low ball offers, and bear in mind the shipping cost will be SUBSTANTIAL.

  3. I just got a big haul of Atari 800 stuff, alot of it I do not need and need to clear out. I'll be periodically adding new stuff, heres the first batch:

    Gorf Cart, faded label,---7

    Centipede cart---5

K-Razy Shootout screw exposed, tape on label, ---7

    Star Raiders----2

    "The Mysterious Dongle"

None can be sure of the dongle's ultimate purpose, some say it was used in the Dark arts during Jack Tramiels brief stint experimenting with VooDoo, Others say it imprisons the souls of wayward Atari employees. No idea what it's worth, taking offers, but I bear no indemnity for damage to your immortal soul. Comes in handsome little box.

*not Pictured* Many books, not looking for a lot for them, listening to all offers, save em from the Recycling bin:

ABC's of Atari Computers, Couple issues of Online Today magazine from 1986, Computer Craziness, Compute's First Book of Atari, Computer Graphics Basics, Atari Basic, Mapping the Atari, Computes first book of Atari Graphics, Computer Science Logo Style, Computes second book of atari, A copy of De Re Atari in binder.

More coming soon, off to take more pics!

  4. I picked up a 8meg flash cart for my 800XL, mainly because the original carts are getting really expensive(if you can find them) and a lot of good games were only released on tape/floppy and both the media and the drives for those are a giant pain. I still pick up any 800 carts I find for a good price though, just snagged a couple of activision games out of the marketplace :-D . thanks again by the way.

  5. Simple fix. Turn the 800 on, with no cartridge inserted, so that you are in Memo Pad.

Now, use the old "Angel of Death" trick. Play

, and tap the beat out with each bad key.

The rapid succession of keypresses will remove the oxidation from the leaf springs in the keys.

Watch the screen as you tap. Eventually, the key will start working.

At first it will be intermittent... keep tapping until it works normally.

LOL, can't tell if serious, or trolling :rolling: .

  6. Just got an atari 800 I was told was broken. I was quite astonished when i wiggled the power supply and donkey kong showed up! the keyboard however, is not quite so functional. only a handful of buttons on the keyboard work. 3, s, esc, delete, thats about it. the option buttons on the right work well though, except the option button sticks. Is this just a case of dirty contacts? If so, how would I go about cleaning them? is the problem something deeper than that?

  7. Man i give up. I know I'm doing everything right now, it will start playing the choir music and beeping like I'm summoning some 8-bit demon, then boot error, and go to the memory test screen. I've done this with two different 410 drives, one the rewind doesn't work, the other one just decided it didn't want the play button to stick down any more. the worst part is, I know the first drive works, or at least worked, and I had a few games that I got working before as well. now, nothing. good thing I picked up an 8meg flashcart a while back, or I'd be really annoyed  . next step is to take apart the 800 and see if I can fix that. as for the dongle, its pretty small, maybe 3/4 of an inch long, and shaped like a trapezoid.

  8. ...one box has a tiny little plastic thing that would fit in a controller port, but has nothing else- just a plastic thing that goes in the controller port...

This is called a "Dongle", it was a hardware-based method of copy-protection. Only a few applications for the 800 used it, so it should be fairly easy to figure out what piece of software that it functions with. The only software that I seem to recall using a dongle was "Homepack".

As for the non-working 800... Open the hatch, and clean the leads on the edge-connectors of the boards. Do each board one at a time, cleaning the gold contacts with a fresh pink eraser on a new #2 pencil (the oxidation erases right off). Be sure to blow any eraser-debris off the card, re-insert it, then do the next card.

When you are done, attempt to power on. If it works, good. If not, the next step is to re-seat the ICs.

Look in the sticky-topic on maintenance (at the top of the forum page for Atari 8-Bits) for more info on this, and other maintenance & troubleshooting procedures.

One way or another you will get it working again.

thanks thats helpful. I haven't even messed with the 800, i've already got an xl. the person i bought it from said the video out got pulled out, and the keyboard is a mess :/. as for the dongle, I'll try and get pics up later, but i always seem to have trouble uploading pics in the forum.

  9. Go read post #5 above.

There are two main types of loadable games: Machine Language and BASIC. To load a Machine Language game:

    1. Press and hold OPTION and START.

    2. Turn on Atari

    3. When you see the blue screen, release OPTION and START keys.

    4. Press PLAY on cassette player.

    5. Press RETURN or Space on the Atari and the tape will start (actually, you can press almost any key, like 'A' or '3').

    Notes:

    1. When you hold OPTION at power-up, you turn off the built-in BASIC. When you hold START, you put the Atari in tape loading mode.

    2. CLOAD is only for loading BASIC programs.

    3. Holding OPTION is necessary on the 600XL, 800XL, and all XE's. It is not necessary on the 400,800, and 1200XL.

thanks so much, I knew I was forgetting something!

  10. I just got a huge load of A8 stuff of craigslist for 25 bucks. about ten cartridges, a bunch of floppies, broken 800, tape drive, floppy drive, bunch of joysticks etc. but the strangest things i got in the lot came in these little boxes, like you would put jewelry in. one box has a tiny little plastic thing that would fit in a controller port, but has nothing else- just a plastic thing that goes in the controller port. the other box, has this odd looking thing called "the Pill." It appears to fit in the cartridge slot (I havent tried) and has a toggle switch on the top of it. I found a manual mixed in with things, I guess it was used to copy data from cartridge to disc? apparently for pirating games, although the manual amusingly claims it is "for medicinal purposes only." any one ever heard of either of these things?
