I was just reading the wiki article for the Tomy Tutor, and it said it was very similar to a TI99-4/A, how true is this? Would it be possible to port games from one to the other in a way similar to MSX and Coleco?

Source for replacement C64 Shells?
VicViper replied to VicViper's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
yes, I can swing that. Should cost about 15 bucks to ship to you, I'll PM you when I get the new one from OLD CS1. -
Just an update, I grabbed a replacement from BasicWayne of off ebay, replaced it in U1 and everything is working again. Grabbed myself a C64 saver while i was waiting for this chip to get here so i donn't face any more heartbreak anytime soon. Thanks everyone for the input.

Removing the sheilding around the VIC II chip
VicViper replied to VicViper's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
Yeah i know i barely have it on long enough to justify it, really just tinkering. I've already got it open to replace a chip, i figure I'd put in a little extra love. -
Been watching alot of videos about working on C64s, it seems like most people remove the sheild/heatsink around the VIC II chip? Is this generally the best idea? I bought a pack of IC heat sinks for the other chips, but havent removed this particular piece yet. Is it as simple as flipping the board over and twisting some pins?

is there software ready to take advantage of the extra ram and Yamaha chip?

ITS A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!!!!! It's been so long, i don't even remember what this was supposed to do other than add a pokey chip and a high score save, anyone want to bring me up to speed?

Timex Sinclair/ZX Spectrum compatibility questions
VicViper replied to VicViper's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
well anything is easy to find on the internet. I've never seen either machine in person. I know the ZX is far more common though, in a global sense. -
Contacted buyer, it looks good, thanks everyone for the help!

Fried my keyboard control chip, looking for a CIA U1 6526 replacement.
-
Will this one work, or is only for U2? https://www.ebay.com/i/292387147143?rt=nc
-
Well, its official. CIA U1 is the culprit. Luckily my C64 is socketed. Any one have any extras?

Timex Sinclair/ZX Spectrum compatibility questions
VicViper replied to VicViper's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I don't have anything that takes PAL video, plus i really like the styling of the Timex. OFcourse, if the SD Drive wont work on it all is for naught... -
Does anyone know a good source for a replacement chip? i tried looking around on line and the prices where all over the place.
-
Yup, thats probably what happened.
