  1. Just replaced the 9 pin cable real quick and cleaned out the contacts. WOW. What a difference between these and the CX40. I see why people pay the premium for them. Wish mine still had the hex sticker on top, looks like the sticker is worth more than the joystick!

  2. Sounds like you're describing a CX10 "heavy sixer" joystick.

FWIW I've modded CX40s and other joysticks with microswitches, and I'll never go back to dome switches for them. :-D

Yeah that's it. I've been messing with Atari stuff for a great many years, can't believe I'd never seen one like this.

  3. Did atari ever manufacture an "original" style joystick with microswitches? I've gotten one in a lot from Craigslist and it's a bit unusual. I suppose it's not Technically microswitches, there is an entire plastic frame under the top of the joystick, and each of the directionals for the stick has its own spring mounted inside the plastic frame. I'll post an imgur album later if this is something odd enough to warrant everyone taking a look, I've never seen one that wasn't just the plastic bubble membranes.doesnt look like a home hack, very professional. Of course, it doesn't work.

  4. For the RAM switch, you have to boot the machine with a ram disk enabled. Make the ram disk bootable by writing DOS to it or sector copying a boot disk to it. Change the switch and then hold SELECT and press RESET for a warm boot. It will boot from the ram disk as drive 1.

Excellent for 2 disk games or BBSs.

Is the RAM disc a special disk? I have very little experience with Floppy drives as i pretty early on decided not to mess with magnetic media and just use SD card devices. Definately stoked for that 320K though, now i can play Pang. For a second. Before it crashes :-o

  5. How the heck do i post pics from my phone? anyway, all the drives light up, havent hooked em up to the comp yet. the one XF551 has a rainbow ribbon cable and a four slotted plug that connects to the 3.5" floppy drive. No idea what to do with all that. The 1050 has a toggle switch on the side, witch is..... curious. it also has a sticker simply stating "BATCH" placed on top of it. I found a loose sticker in the box that says atari 800-800XL chips, The Impossible. the chips are as follows; "800XL", both of these chips are labeled J349A with the TI logo on them. the next ones are labeled "Atari 800" and are 8307 Atari 1981, and two smaller ones with a bunch of numbers on them. another one labeled CO16150, with a bunch of smaller chips.

  6. I believe this is the listing the OP is talking about, at least it's the only one with a 130XE on Rochester Craigslist.

The only power supply I see isn't for the 130XE/1050/XF551, although it may be for the 1020

The plastic bag on the lower right appears to contain a switchable Quintopus:

yeah, the lack of power supplies in the lot is a problem. I've sent an offer, will keep all posted.

  7. The post in question.

    Obviously not the best pic, but a few things caught my attention;

There appears to be one, maybe two toggle switches on the back of the computer

The two floppy drives under the printer are unclear, and ontop of the 1050 there appears to be 3.5" drive

Bags of computer chips? cant tell what those are

Any guesses on what any of this stuff is? im thinking about throwing an offer just because I'm interested in that sweet 128K of RAM.

  8. Don't forget to hold down OPTION when booting 800XL to disable BASIC.

For what it's worth, I experienced a few issues booting DOSes and addressing disk drives early on.

I formatted another TF card (this time a 1gb Sandisk) to FAT32 and problems seem to have gone away. I did use HP USB disk storage format tool on the 1gb TF card.

I have kept the original included card untouched as a backup media.

Other speculations of mine have been newness of the 3d printed case and how well it mates with much older SIO jack on different computers?

So far, I have only tested with 48kb 400 and 800XL. Seems like the more I have moved around (plugged/unplugged SIO socket and TF cards) and tinkered with the device in general, the better it has behaved.

Hopefully any quirks this device may have will be worked out in a future firmware release.

Hang on now, is this the problem I'm having? i've had a really hard time getting alot of files to load, will i have more luck if i boot while holding the option button down and pressing reset?
