Hey Vic,
It's nice to hear about another old TI found and cleaned up.
Yes, at a minimum the P-Box should have 3 cards:
1) Flex Card Interface (the one with the big black cable)
2) 32K Memory Expansion
3) Floppy Controller
It's decision time now. Do you plan on doing more than games with this TI? Do you have the space to DEVOTE to this peripheral expansion box. Are you willing to dump several hundred dollars and a lot of time into bringing the P-BOX up to a 'usable' condition? I say usable because it's almost impossible to get anything from the Internet into a P-Box without investing in one of the various methods...
One method is the << HDX >> interface which requires a modified TI RS-232 card. Unmodified TI RS-232 cards are not inexpensive, but then you'll have to get it modified too. Another method is the << HxC >> SD card route. The HxC is also a method that requires a substantial investment. Even with an HxC you might be disappointed with the amount of data you are able to store at one time unless you << modify the floppy controller >> as well. Also with the P-Box comes the << noise factor >>, and that takes a little effort to remedy as well.
The other expansion route you mentioned, the << sidecar 32K >>, is indeed one way to go, but the 32K in itself would be a waste of money unless you paired it with something that could use it, like the << FinalGROM 99 >>. The last two options appear to be the current favorite due to price, size and availability and what most people use their TI's for.
Now this is just me, but either way you go, if you decide to stick with the TI, I would strongly suggest obtaining an
<< F18A video upgrade >>.
Good luck & have fun.
I dont think I intend to use it, but more interested in at least running it and seeing if it works? As far as the F18, does it only output in VGA? i dont have a monitor and i only use Flat screen tubes in my game room that i dont believe have VGA inputs.

Haven't seen this mentioned here yet, great Galaga style homebrew, now supporting NTSC. I spent the 5 bucks to download it and run it on my IEC2SD, and it is amazing. Kind of funny to think I'm paying for DLC for Commodore 64.... what a time to be alive!

So i posted here a few days ago looking for advice about starting to mess with my Fathers old TI994a. Got to digging today, found a dirty old computer (that is now shiny) tons and tons of paperwork and books, a few boring game carts. There is also an expansion box, that i believe has 32k, floppy, and something else... disk controller? should i try and mess with this beast, or just get the new sidecar 32K? from what i can tell these are pretty in demand? Also found two games on cassette by a company Moonbeam Software, both CIB; Strike Force 99 and Moon-Vasion. Couldn't find much at all about them online, are they worth trying to find a cassette drive?

Got a 99 not too long ago myself, diving into the library has been pretty great.
I'll second the recommendations for Slymoids and Henhouse, both are great. Henhouse takes a little time to really get going but once it does it's frantic and awesome.
I'd also suggest Treasure Island, Moon Mine, Ambulance, Meteor Belt, Bigfoot, Fathom, Picnic Paranoia and Space Bandits. Tunnels of Doom is great if you have a means to load the dungeons. It's a good bet that Parsec was in that initial batch of games you tried, but it's worth snagging a copy if it wasn't.
I played Parsec in my youth, and wanted to play it again, was the whole reason i dug it out. I couldn't figure out the controllers last time, didn't know my dad was using a converter back in the day.

I went with this one and was successful, aside from a few burns and a small section of melted case

Looking for the most accurate Composite mod guide for 7800. The top one that comes up on google seems to have some question as to what resistors to move.

As always, Carlsson comes through. Thanks!

Seriously, why can no two games agree on what port to use? why do so many games insist on using port 2? is there a technical reason?

Im about to dig my fathers old Ti994a out of his basement, i tried getting into it once already, but the games he had where pretty uninspiring. But after seeing how much support there is in the community, I'm going to give it another go. Whats the best SD card Device, and what games should i track down? Homebrew stuff?

PM sent for DS games...
-
Got a very reasonable priced Amstrad CPC 464 shipped to the states. was shipped quickly and well secured and packed.
-
Had a custom made joystick made for me, great communication the whole way through, got exactly what i wanted.
-
Wasn't somebody teasing they had some info about a Zoo Keeper proto a while back? or was i only dreaming....
-
Damn, i don't really WANT an Odyssey 2, but 60 shipped... sweet deal for whoever pulls the trigger and fills me with regret.
-
2600 Tempest, Choplifter, Zookeeper, and Qix having been released in 1984 with the proper shiny reflective silver foil labels they deserved.
...so excuse me while I go cry myself to sleep now...
Zooookeeeeeper. what ever happened to that guy who was teasing he found the proto? Double yes on the silver labels, i wish more homebrews followed "traditional" atari styles, red label, silver label etc.

I went to my local Video Game XChange here in Madison, WI. I picked up Jungle Hunt, E.T, and Moon Patrol for $2 each.
I also picked up Popeye and Q*bert for 3 dollars each
I found it odd that they had a lot of red label Atari 2600 games for $4 each
Sprintmaster, Jr Pac Man, Crossbow, Dark Chambers, Midnight Magic, Mouse Trap, etc
Does anyone think that $4 for the Atari 2600 red Label games is way too much?
As someone who JUST finished my NTSC red label collection, no, 4 bucks is about on point for those, maybe a bit more on occasion.

I know, I know. But I grow weary of playing C64 with cx40s. I rarely ever hook up my coleco because it feels "awkward" compared to my other machines. One of the very best port/homebrews !
-
Trying to raise some cash for a fancy joystick, so i'm letting this go since i can play the SG 1000 version on my SMS now. here it is
-
Pm sent for possible custom job...
-
Would the two button version be safe to use with a C64, or would I need to worry about frying the control chip?
-
Want to grab a few demos to run off my SD device, any suggestions?
-
Looking for good sources of info about past and future homebrew releases.... advice?
-
Another noob topic, I've always used my Sega Genesis Arcade Stick with my 9-pin vintage consoles, even going so far as to buy an adapter to use it for two button games on my 7800. But i have heard through a bit of googling that Sega controllers can damage a chip on the Commodore? is there any truth to that, and would using my 7800 adapter negate that problem?

I know the Super Mario Bros requires the F18, is that the only one?
