Haven't touched one, but here's some info on people using them for unintended purposes. Must work pretty decently, I'd assume.
Thanks!

I would love to get some feedback on this thing from someone here at AA:
Does anyone know if this works well? Has anyone actually tried it out yet? It looks cool as advertised, but so many other things do...any input is appreciated!

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 250762884816
Not only does this come with Pac-Man, ET (the rarest game ever) and a nifty organizer case, but here is the best part...
This Atari 2600 is VENTAGE!!!!
I hope they meant VINTAGE, otherwise...it could be even more interesting:
ventage [ˈvɛntɪdʒ]
n1. a small opening; vent2. (Music, other) a finger hole in a musical instrument such as a recorder
PS: No power supply or controllers included...Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........

No worries though...the seller's name is best_deal2002, so it must be a bargain!!! TRUST THE EBAY

BTW...I live in NJ and I was referred to an arcade repairman who is very reasonable and also works on vector monitors. He fixed mine (along with taking care of all sorts of other tweaks and preventative maintenance) and it cost me less than $100. He even gave my OutRun Machine a once over while he was at my house. PM me if anyone needs his contact info.

I tried to win a Tempest (not working) on ePay that was in the area of MGC (went too high $280 I think)... non-working screen and PCB. Now I'm after another Atari dedicated cab in Chicago, but the seller was not answered in three days. My only window to obtain is Monday morning on the return trip. It's one of my favorite Atari cabs (and at $150 working it is a great deal) if only they would answer.

I got my Tempest machine off of eBay for $300 delivered (local delivery). With $100 worth of tweaking and parts, she is running perfect. It is one of those arcade machines that shows all the years of living in a real arcade. It came with nice artwork, with some visible wear from the days where people lined up to play her (complete with a few cigarette burns and initials carved in the side art).
I love it!!! It adds character and brings me right back to those days in a smoke filled, dimly lit arcade. I really enjoyed this game the most back in the day, but I learned to love it once I became the owner of my own cabinet. I never get bored of it. This is bar none my favorite game ever!!! I would recommend making this one of those "must haves" if you have the room for it. You will never regret it!!!

Nobody has it right yet!!

If you turn the logo sideways, it shows one albino Pitfall alligator cannibalizing another albino Pitfall alligator. That's it...I'm sure of it!

Yes its my first Atari; so I jumped the gun a bit when I saw the ad.
With all honesty, I had never seen an Atari at a pawn shop or anywhere else in my area; so I had no base to value it from. I actually got the idea to buy one from an episode of "Pawn Stars."
You got a fair deal. Most important, you got something you will enjoy. Some folks make a nice side business out of buying and selling classic games but, truthfully, this is no way to get rich. If you enjoy the games and the history, you will love collecting. As you spend more time researching your purchases, you will be able to spot a good deal from a mile away.
The price you paid is right on par with a fair eBay/craigslist purchase. With the right amount of knowledge and experience, you would have been able to find a better deal, but not by much. Most of the real "steals" are grabbed up quickly by those who are looking all the time and know what they are looking for.
You might have done a little bit better but, you certainly could have done A LOT worse!!! Just enjoy the games and the future collecting!

I should never have clicked on this thread. My heart weeps (this coming from the owner of a Tempest machine).

I have a Tempest as well...I was bummed

Always wanted a Star Castle too! And those are difficult to find in that condition!!!

Quick wipedown? nah. The grill on the top of a 2600 takes a while to clean, all those ridges... I can see giving up if you're not someone who cares lovingly for such things
I tuck mine in at night
I can imagine such a seller responding with the question: "Are these things dishwasher safe???"

What nice cabinets here...sent to the land of MAME. I have nothing against a MAME cabinet, but Tempest and Star Castle just shouldn't get messed with in my opinion...just my opinion tho

I hate to say it, but it is pretty obvious that it won't be long (probably with the next gen consoles) before we get NO tangible product at all. Everything is quickly marching towards the world of DLC. A world where we truly own NOTHING!!! You download the content and it will be playable until the publisher just shuts down the servers supporting it. I am really disgusted with this trend in gaming.
Old school games were full of impressive box/instruction/cart artwork. Some of the cartridges were works of art themselves with cool shapes and colors making them unique. Now, all we get is a plastic DVD case with a DVD and a slip sheet in it. Soon, even this will go the way of the Dodo. So sad...
Maybe a developer will recognize the entirety of the gaming culture and do something about this, but I think this has already jumped the shark. It's all about profits, and DLC is certainly a way to get lots more profit and get it fast.
Bummer.
{SIDE NOTE - I loved it as a kid when I got a new Atari game and it came with a cool box, cool cart, cool manual and usually a catalog of upcoming titles that I would drool over for hours...now that is what I call marketing your brand!}
{SIDE SIDE NOTE - Also, let's not forget the Atari comics that were in with some of the games!!!}

I remember when I was a kid I loved that game "Blip" by Tomy. One of these I have to pick one up and see if it is as fun as I remember!

Sorry to hear about that Ax. ---eBay sucks!!! Although, I have had wonderful transactions, I am currently afraid to sell now using their site. It protects the buyer so much that you can get scammed all day long.
That said, if this guy actually sent and actually tracked his package, he wouldn't have to resort to verbal abuse and nonsense like this. He would have proof of mailing it and proof of delivery. For a $10 item, he could have even insured it if he wanted to for almost nothing!!! This seller just sounds like a scammer and a nutbag. I hate to say it, but for $10 worth of grief, I would open a case and let eBay deal with the rest - win or loose. I know it's a matter of principal, more than the $10, but the stress from things like this sometimes just isn't worth it. If you let eBay handle this, it will more than likely end in your favor. I wish you the best of luck!

I'm thinking scam.

Call me crazy, but I never heard of this:
"I just sold one of these Darth Vaders that I bought in 1984 it came with a 16 turbo graphics cord which was used on Atari Computers up until they started putting them on the Atari 7800 pro system."
I don't know what this guy is referring to. To the best of my knowledge, the TG16 didn't even hit the scene till 1989! That and I never heard of NEC sharing hardware with Atari 2600 or 7800. Maybe someone else knows more about this. If so, I would be interested to hear the history. If not, I would lean even more towards this being a hoax.

Ha.Just started experiencing the game freezing. Looked it up online and there seems to be a chronic problem with this especially on the PS3 version. THQ said they will find out what is causing it and send a patch in a couple weeks. Well thanks THQ. I will gladly wait a couple weeks for a playable game. This thing is going closer and closer to the trade pile.
Massive problems...most of them stem from 1 thing - European servers. This is a common problem. Terrible lag (hence the full clip vs. your opponent's 2 shots) and the constant inability to connect to game servers (takes me on average 25 minutes to join online).
The publishers / developers have had a large following in past efforts, primarily in the UK. The game is riddled with problems to begin with, but for us U.S. customers, it is FAR FAR worse.
How I would rate the campaign:
Graphics: C (just so-so in my opinion)
Non-action gameplay: D- (clunky at best)
Action sequence gameplay: A++
Storyline: A++
Length of campaign: D-
Overall Playability: B
How I would rate the online:
F-
That's my take on Homefront. I'm glad I played it, but could have easily waited for it to go on sale!

I have yet to receive a console from ebay that didn't look dirty like that. But that doesn't scare me away. With a little TLC they shine up real nice and work great. Part of the fun of collecting is the teardown and rebuild of a crusty machine. I don't think I'd hesitate to buy that Atari.
Really??? The ones I get from eBay always look like this:

I prefer sellers to do things that prevent others from bidding.
"Up for bid is a box of atari tapes. Sorry no photo."
My particular favorite is the "MYSTERY" cart...almost always a parker brothers frogger, qbert or Popeye with no label...but, it is a surprise!!!!

In a way, it's more honest to post the picture without cleaning it so that potential bidders have an idea of the condition in which the item has been kept over time. A person could get that stuff clean and shiny on the surface, while underneath lurks corrosive crud!
Very good point... though if I were guessing at the seller's reason, I'd lean towards laziness rather than honesty.
It looks like they started cleaning and gave up!!! The left side of the deck looks like it is still drying off!!!

Very true...I never looked at it that way! Now, I at least can see a positive side to it. Thanks!

I have a different looking Atari Power Supply I've never seen one like it and am wondering what does it go to. The number is atari C017539. Output rating 9.5 V AC 750mA. Here's a picture. Anyone know what system this goes with. Tried searching the net, no luck. Also has a Sega Genesis power connector on it. Thanks for any help.
That's a tricky one. I just looked around and couldn't find any info either. I would talent a guess, based on the image, it is probably for a pong or video pinball stand alone console. Just a guess tho. Someone here is bound to know for sure though.

I have been trying to figure this one out....I have seen Atari (and other vintage games) listed on eBay that are so dirty, they look as though they have been buried in the backyard for the past 30 years! I know that items tend to get dusty and what not, but some of these are just ridiculous!
I was looking on ePay for a nice (cheap) 6 switcher to add to my collection. Here is what I found:
Look at that thing...it looks like a hurricane Katrina survivor (barely). I may just be ranting at this point, but I am dumbfounded by the ability to get something this filthy and have the nerve to NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO CLEAN IT before snapping a pic and putting it up on eBay. That really grinds my gears

@bennybingo - Well everything in the lot is in pretty great condition, so I guess I did well.
To purchase each of those individually, in good condition, would have cost you a lot more. The best part about when you first start out, is that you can pick up cool package deals like that. You get a bunch of stuff you need for a fair price.
As time goes on, if you continue to buy "packages" like the one you just got, you will end up with lots of duplicate common carts, controllers and systems. This is not a bad thing, as you can sell or trade them here or thru eBay.
I hope you enjoy the games and feel free to drop me a message if you ever have any questions!
-
Thank you all for the warm welcomes, Do you know if I got an alright deal on the collection?
@Itchy KoalaAlso - Sure, show me what games you have for sale.
Sounds fair to me, as long as it all is in good condition.
