  1.

    I'll make you a deal...

If you mock up the rest of the car sprites, I'll put 'em in the game (160A mode). Here's the 1st one for you:

    attachicon.gifPole Postion (Hack).png

    attachicon.gifPole Postion II (Hack).a78

I may use a different blue than in this example rom. It was just for testing. I kinda like $83 like in this screenshot:

    attachicon.gifPole Postion II (Hack).png

Thank you Kevin, you're very kind. :)

I made these sprites for my curiosity and then I shared to show the 7800 graphic capabilities in PP2.

I did not think the 160A mode could be of interest but I'm glad you liked it (at least until one of our programmers will want to increase the number of colors ;) ).

In truth, I had added the new sprite in the game but I lost my motivation when I saw that the car and the explosion share the same colors. However the result looks good, and I like the blue car.

I will make other sprites (lateral views) in the next days.

    P.S.

I am undecided about the color blue for the car, increasing the contrast between white and blue it seems more evident the reduced number of colors. :ponder:

  2. Got my DK XM cart yesterday! I haven't really been keeping up with this project at all, so it was awesome to find (via the included manual) that the Pie Factory is included. I was under the impression it was just the original game but with Pokey sound, but nope! Definitely looking forward to trying it out whenever the XM's ship. I was one of those kids that grew up with the NES version, so I never had access to the PF.

For a quick deepening, I suggest you the list of updates (incomplete ;) ):

  3. I'm having a hard time deciding if I will work on Dig Dug XM or Castle Crisis. I have Bryan's blessing, and source code :D , for the later.

I would prefer Dig Dug XM, also considering that on 7800 is already possible to play Warlords and Medieval Mayhem, both excellent.

But regardless, follow your own inspiration. ;)

  4. Man, time flies...Hoping to see some new great developments down the pipe.

Your graphics still floor me with the best aspect ratio and all details that could possibly be included, Defender_2600.

Perry's masterful architecture and programming work still leaves my jaw dropped every time I play DKXM...

You both poured countless hours into this labor of love and it is truly and wholeheartedly appreciated.

Need more stuff from you both soon - Craving a 'Defender' and/or 'tep' "fix"...lol. ;-)

Thanks for the kind words, Robert.

Perry has been very kind to give me the opportunity to help in this great project.

    :)

  5. Hi,

looking back at this topic, I have to specify that in post #33 the pictures show the 7800 graphic with wrong pixel aspect ratio (2.0).

The NTSC 7800 pixel aspect ratio is 1.7 for 160 modes, therefore I attach some examples with correct proportions.

  6. I was beyond humbled and appreciative when working (Read 'testing and providing my layman input') with both these ...

To get an idea about "providing my layman input", read:

Again, a special thanks to Trebor for his tremendous help with the testing and for the many valuable analysis and suggestions.

  7. I strived to make it as accurate as possible. Even including details like firefoxes #2 and #4 randomly pausing at the top of ladders. But there are definitely area's where I deviated from the arcade. It got to a point where I just wanted to finish it. I think it turned out good enough.

The big advantage I had was access to a meticulously documented arcade disassembly, courtesy of Don Hodges. I couldn't have done this without his help.

    Perry, you're too modest ;) :

For example, take a look at the Donkey Kong 64 version (official version on powerful hardware) and you will notice several differences compared to the Arcade version.

The 7800 XM version is very very close to the Arcade!!

  8. I think the new 7800 XM version is as close to arcade accurate yet, but I haven't played it enough to say for sure because it needs the XM to ship to have sound. But when you hear they added the points for jumping at Kong's foot, and the same odds table for a barrel to choose to come down a ladder, you know gameplay is probably super-accurate.

    :)
